January 27, 2010: Introduces the iPad. Apple sells 500,000 iPads in the first week and gains 84 percent of the tablet market by the end of 2010. January 17, 2011: Goes on medical leave of absence. March 2, 2011: wraps off the iPad.

August 24, 2011: Resigns from Apple CEO post;

becomes chairman.

Oct. 5, 2011: Jobs dies at 56 at his California home, due to complications from a relapse of his previously treated islet-cell neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Apple announced his death in a statement, which read: We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today. Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
