The design includes commercial and residential units, in addition to a clinic, an apart hotel and various public spaces. The proposal breaks the mold of large retail centers that blunt street culture and have large carbon footprints by diversifying the building uses at street level. The site massing acknowledges the Mashhad Mausoleum, an important pilgrimage site, with most of the residential units facing the sanctuary. The facades are inspired by Persian architecture, using patterns found on typical Persian dywan structures. The commercial area is organized as a continuous topography, with the ground and first floors exchanging public spaces and opening up to street retail areas. Shopping units and other services such as a clinic and public spaces are distributed throughout the neighborhood. What would otherwise be large chunks of mall are split apart to empower pedestrians with the use of connecting courtyards and public gardens. Above, a combination of normal apartments and hotels meets housing needs for residents and tourists.

[In]Exterior is an exercise in challenging the wellestablished conventions of designing for a second home or a retreat family house. Conventionally speaking, retreat homes are conceptualized as villas in the park with a focus on maximizing the visual access of the interiors to the surrounding natural vista through transparent exterior thresholds of a solid volume. [In]Exterior is a family house located in a retreat village in the periphery of City of Isfahan. The suburban context of the project offers no substantial natural view or meaningful topographic variation. Hence, the spatial organization of the project is fundamentally transformed to introduce two connected semi-courtyards. Instead of looking outward at a non existing natural vista or impressive view, the project is shifting its visual focus to the inner yards, arriving at maximum transparency of the architectural thresholds where the interior spaces meet the interiorized yards. The redefinition of inside/outside relation is also deriving the material condition of the architectural surfaces. The commonalities of surface material and texture, both in interior and exterior voids, allow for certain level of ambiguity in differentiating the interior and exterior condition from a perceptual point of view. The spatial uncertainty in identifying the borderline between in and out is further established through the introduction of sliding walls that transforms the interior yards of the project to semi-open gardens. Meanwhile, the introduction of the yards within the heart of the spatial organization of the house, allows for performative division of the house between the categorically different functions with private and public nature.

Qebleh urban plaza plaza competition

Mashhad-home to the shrine of the 8th Imam of Shiites- is the most significant religious city in Iran which attracts more than 25 million visitors per year. The obvious need for reorganization of the surrounding urban fabric of the shrine and providing facilities for the visitors has lead to major decisions in the reset master plan of the city. According to the project vision, “ Qebleh Plaza” is the most significant urban interface space to connect city to the religious complex located at the historical center of Mashhad. The plaza is mainly programmed as an in-between space to facilitate entry and exit of pilgrims to the complex alongside hosting events and overflow crowd during special occasions. The project will consist of 6 levels of urban subterranean space including public transport stations, public spaces and facilities, besides access to the underground level of the religious complex at level 1-, commercial and cultural spaces at level 2-, parking spaces at level 3- and 4-, line 3 subway station and related spaces at level 5- and 6-. The proposal is based on the idea of creating maximum usable surface at the plaza level to be able to accept the influx of population, yet considering the essential need to provide porous surface to supply light, ventilation and easy access to the underground levels. Provide a variety of movement, access and gathering spaces.

Tehran eco-corridor promenade, located at the modern business and administrative district of the city, is a major urban void with 600m length and 50m width. The competition aimed to reach concepts to develop a pedestrian promenade and bridge with emphasis on the panoramic view from the site to the city skyline and considering natural, cultural and historical values of Valiasr st. as the most iconic street in Tehran.

N

The topographical conditions of site demands construction of a pedestrian bridge to provide continuous movement at the intersection with valiasr street, while not interrupting visual corridor of the street toward Alborz mountain range.

THE WHITE GALLERY PRIVATE GALLERY

Year: 2015

Scale: 726 sqm

The White Gallery is an architectural exercise in realigning the potentials and limitations of «in-fill» typology when it comes to creating a performative space for exhibition of art work. The explicit and deliberate difference, in both figuration and configuration of the interior and exterior of the project, highlights the challenges to be faced in juxtaposition of the duo of typology and program. The project is simultaneously extroverted and introverted: From within, the space is organized around the core idea of maximized sectional continuity. The continuum reaches outward while being maintained inside. Spacio- sectional porosity allows for layering of the perspectival views it offers the spectator. From the outside and at first glance, the project is conceived and meant to be perceived as an autonomous and solid object and a composition of abstracted Euclidean forms with an utmost level of opacity. This is in line with the dense morphology of the surrounding residential context. Just like a « Cabinet de curiosités» the historic predecessor of museums and galleries, the White Gallery appears as a puzzling representational space, not to be decoded unless one enters its space of representation…

Tribe House examines the possibility of designing for real homes within the framework of erecting an infill apartment. Tribe House is a four-story building that houses three residential units for members of one big family. The lot of the project meets an inner lot in the north that its street access is limited to a 1 meter wide alley along the western border of our project. In the east, the neighboring lot has a depth that is equal to the sum of the depth of our project’s lot and the northern neighbor. This means that the mass of the building in the eastern lot will never cover the eastern facade of our project. This is due to the zoning bylaw inTehran that exacts a maximum buildable envelope of %60 of the depth of the lot plus 2 meters. Hence, our project ends up having 4 facades, whereas according to the zoning bylaws it is considered an infill!

This building is suited in a most important boulevard in a little city “ Saqqez” that led us to proposed a complex which has a main façade along this axis. With 65%, the block looks dense at first glance so we designed different edges of exterior boarder of each floor. This complex is consisted of a supermarket, two commercial floors, two parking levels.

This project as a residential master plan is designed on the basis of theory rather than detail design. The high level concept of this project defines coexisting with the neighbors in the neighborhood as the smallest template of housing units instead of the cohabitation of the members of family in a unit as the smallest template of having units. Reintroducing yards in housing units with defining privatesemi private- public and semi-public as inseparable parts of the units

Climatic maters and topography is the most important parameters in designing this village. They should cause least excavation to be more beneficial environmentally and economically. Site location is one hour and a half far from Tehran. A large number of users are upper middle class which buy a mountain villa as a second home in summer time. This village consisted 118 villa, 100 apartment units and local commercial building. Designing in topography is the most challenging apart of the design. The design is a simple arrangement of spaces within a predominantly open plan. The external appearance of the building uses the heavily rendered stone to express a cubic form embedded in the side of the mountain among

The main idea of the project is letting the city come inside the complex, in such a way that each citizen can easily walk to the space at the same level of the street and take advantages from public space so it minimizes the dominance of this huge complex over the content. The importance of making public spaces in early structure areas led us to created three yards which connected to the city smoothly.

Residential Complex for members of Iran Parliament is located in south plots of Baharestan square in Downtown Tehran. The site is suited across the Iran Parliament and is located in a historical context with mosques and schools over -100years old. Ofogh Residential complex is located in a 15.2 hectares in west of Tehran. The project is consisted of 1600 apartments, a local shopping center, commercial blocks and a primary school to serve its inhabitants. The project designed in 11 blocks with 15 floors above the ground and 3 blocks with 4 floors above the ground. 23 different types of apartments with areas from 45 to 250 square meters were distributed in different blocks. The more spacious units have their own private yard, or some of them are duplex units. with 30% of footage, the blocks got attaches to each other. Therefore we proposed a dynamic double-façade for the residential floors which not even provides privacy for each units, but also let the residents control the sunlight and view in their rooms.
