All wrapped up at Barleymow’s

Dear Readers...

Well where did the year go? This time last year I remember writing how I was going to be super organised and buy Christmas tree, cards and chocolates for tree way in advance. The good news is that I pounced, yes pounced on chocolates for the tree much to the bewilderment of our kids. I must have told them several times over how smug I’m feeling having bought them. They can remember last year’s ‘crisis’ but loved the lumps of toblerone wrapped in tin foil and precariously perched on the branches. Stir up Sunday, however, passed in a blur so perhaps not quite so smug after all! This month, the Good Witches of the North have come up with some great ways to get set for Christmas and no surprise that it’s all about staying in control and remembering to look after yourself – see p19. No prizes for being a crumpled, exhausted heap and Little Miss Miserable on the big day. So, if you’re reading this, you’re already on the right track. Have some time to yourself for a quiet read and take a look at what’s happening this month in Somerset. With best wishes from all the team for a very Happy Christmas and New Year. Tamsin, Editor

National Trust Christmas Craft & Food Fayre festive destinations at the Willows & Wetlands Centre, Stoke St Gregory, TA3 6HY 12th December 2.00-5.30pm

This Christmas discover in one festive season two great destinations with the National Trust in South Somerset: Barrington Court and Montacute House. Barrington Court, open weekends 11am-4pm, allows you to enjoy the traditional Christmas with Santa in his grotto; the splendid Court House decorated in lights, colours and decorations reflecting the

Edwardian period when the Lyle family were in residence. Montacute House on the other hand with its ‘Lantern of Light’ opening will be lighting the house and gardens in dramatic style so visitors can both view the house from the grounds and view the grounds from the house. The house will offer wonderful viewing points and of course will be very atmospheric whilst being explored in special lighting. The property will be open from 11am-7pm on these special weekends throughout December and the lights are turned on at 3pm. Both destinations offer great food and drink, quality gift shops, splendid walks all to enjoy this festive period. To find out more detail of events, prices and availability Visit: nationaltrust.org.uk/ barrington-court or call 01460 241938 or nationaltrust.org.uk/montacutehouse or call 01935 823289

The Willows & Wetlands Centre will play host once again to a Christmas Craft & Food Fayre on 12th December. With the Centre now playing host to a number of specialist craft units, this has turned into a bit of an annual extravaganza. One of the highlights will be a lantern parade, around dusk, with children from Stoke St Gregory school, and there will also be entertainment from all over the Levels, including carols sung by the Jubilee Singers, hand bell ringing with the Fosse Bells and Martock Christian Fellowship will be performing their puppet show.

In between the assorted entertainments, there is the promise of 35 stalls devoted to all things Christmassy - jewellery, handcrafted bottles, local Somerset wine, Somerset cider, fudge, bread, cheeses, jams and chutneys to name but a few. And, of course, as only fitting there will be a Christmassy Willow Workshop for the children who bring an adult along too. The Willow basket shop, Lemon Tree Coffee House and craft studios will be open all day as normal. Meanwhile, local wildlife groups will be on hand to talk and provide information about

the Levels and the amazing array of wildlife it is home to, so pop along and have a chat with the RSPB and Somerset Wildlife Trust. All proceeds of this event

FORDRED, who plays his mum – the man-eating DAME TROTT! Every pantomime needs a hero, and this year it’ll be down to the handsome PAUL BURLEY (who plays the title role of JACK) to defeat the villains and save the day! By climbing the Beanstalk and proving his bravery, he’s sure to win the heart of the beautiful JILL, played by LEAH LLOYD. No pantomime would be complete without a touch of sparkle, so CHARLOTTE HOY will be casting a magic spell over Wimborne this year as the magical FAIRY BEANSPROUT, who is doing her best to overcome the evil powers of GIANT BLUNDERBONE and his evil henchman FLESHCREEP (SAM DUNNING). As always, the Tivoli Pantomime will feature a Full Supporting Cast of young, local dancers and performers! So all the cast are ready and waiting in the wings to amuse and entertain you in what is certain to be a GIANT of a pantomime, with spectacular sets, beautiful costumes and laughter by the bucketful! JACK AND THE BEANSTALK is already the fastest selling pantomime in the history of the Tivoli Theatre, so book your tickets now to avoid disappointment! This is sure to be a magical Pantomime adventure suitable for all the family, young and old. This promises to be the best value for money this Christmas! EDUCATION, INFORMATION

The Art of Life Insurance

Creative fun and discovery with Millfield Minis! Come along with your little one to Millfield Minis, a warm and welcoming parent and toddler group open to all parents with 1-2½ year olds in the local area. The group is held at Millfield Pre-Prep in Glastonbury and runs every weekday during term time, from 10.00 – 11.30am.

NEW research has revealed that a quarter of parents in the UK do not have life insurance to protect their families. And even those who do have protection are not always able to claim it if the worst happens. According to recently released figures, a staggering £1 billion is sitting unclaimed in the UK due to people losing their policies. Hardly surprising when you consider that most life insurance policies, despite being worth thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds, usually arrive on a throwaway piece of paper that more often than not gets stashed in the back of a drawer and forgotten about. Or, as is the case with £1

billion worth of policies, it gets misplaced. However online life insurance provider Beagle Street has come up with a creative solution to prevent people losing their policy details that might just be the magic fix. It has worked with three of the country’s top artists to turn its life insurance policies into art to hang on the wall or give to a loved one to hang on theirs – meaning policies can be easily found if ever they’re needed. Customers that buy life insurance with the online

provider will now receive their policy on a piece of art produced by either Jessica Albarn (sister of Blur frontman Damon), leading typography artist Anthony Burrill or creative duo Craig and Karl. A beautiful way of turning something that is often perceived to be quite boring into something valuable that can brighten your home. To the 26 per cent of parents who do not have life insurance, Beagle Street could be the answer – it provides cover online in just 10 minutes and from just £3 a month.

Millfield Minis is run by qualified and friendly Millfield Pre-Prep staff. Children can get hands on with a variety of activities each term including Forest School in our own woods, gym, sensory play, swimming, outdoor play, creative sessions, craft, visits to see our mini Shetland ponies and story time.

To book for January 2016 please visit millfieldschool.com/toddlergroup

The Trafagar Square Christmas Tree Every year in November, the people of Oslo in Norway present England with a beautiful 20 metre high, Norwegian spruce tree.

✱ The tree is selected from forests just outside Oslo with great care, usually months in advance. It is transported to the UK by sea and then completes its journey to Trafalgar Square by lorry. It is then decorated with ornaments and strings of white lights and forms the focal point for the traditional singing of Christmas Carols. ✱ It will stay in the square until 5th January. This year marks the 68th tree to come to London from Oslo. ✱ The first tree was brought over in

to Britain for their friendship during the second world war. The tree has become a symbol of the close relationship between the people of Norway and Britain and there is a plaque at the foot of the tree that reads:

This tree is given by the city of Oslo as a token of Norwegian gratitude to the people of London for their assistance during the years 1940-45.

✱ A tree has been given annually since 1947.

All round excellence at Wellington School If it is academic results you are concerned about for your child, then look no further than Wellington School. We had superb GCSE and A level results across all subjects and had 2 pupils taking up Oxbridge places and many more going to prestigious “Russell Group” Universities. Pupils study the more rigorous IGCSE in Maths and Science as well as Latin and Greek and the emphasis is strongly academic. But Wellington has so much more to offer than exam results. With a Director in Residence, the performing arts go from strength to strength. From the rip-roaring success

of spectacular musicals, serious Chekhov productions and a huge range of bands, orchestras and ensembles, the whole school is taking advantage of a range of exciting opportunities. Our superb Chapel Choir performs regularly and our versatile musicians swept the board recently in singing competitions and exam results. We have superb sports facilities and a unique new Sport and Wellbeing Department with specialist strength and conditioning coaches who take fitness to new levels across all sporting disciplines led by Steffan Jones,

ex Somerset Cricketer. He is also developing an elite cricket and sporting programme, so Wellington is the place to be for sport. We nurture and teach pupils from 3 -11 in the Prep School and 11-18 in the Senior School, and we are justly proud of the rounded, all-encompassing education they receive. We call it “Learning For Life”. We offer scholarships into Year 7 and Year 9 for academic excellence, Sport, Music, Drama and Art & Design. Contact the Registrar on 01823 668803 or admissions@ wellingtonschool.org.uk to find out more details.

Warning to parents over glue ear as winter sets in The National Deaf Children’s Society is advising parents to look out for symptoms of glue ear this winter. 80% of children will be affected by the condition before they reach the age of 10 with the illness being more frequent in winter months as colds and infections reach a seasonal high. Glue ear is a build-up of sticky fluid behind the eardrum that prevents sound passing through the ear effectively. If glue ear goes untreated it may mean children do not learn as well as they cannot hear their teacher. They may also become frustrated, feel left out and become quiet and withdrawn as they cannot follow what is going on around them as easily. However, help is at hand through the National Deaf Children’s Society’s resource, available for parents to better

understand this common childhood condition. Emma Dolan’s 4 year old son, Fletcher, was first diagnosed with glue ear when he was 2 years old. Emma, from Hull, says: “I started to have concerns about Fletcher when he was 18 months old as he didn’t copy speech in the same way other child his age did and he didn't seem to enjoy nursery rhymes or bedtime stories. Things became worse when, instead of communicating with me, he would get attention by throwing food or banging his head on the floor – it was terrifying. “It was initially put down to bad behaviour but I knew it was something more than that – it was frustration. “I was so relieved when we were given the diagnosis of glue ear that I cried all the way home. I knew something could be

done to help my son. He was put on the waiting list for grommets and speech therapy. “Once the grommets were fitted we immediately noticed Fletcher was much calmer and, slowly, he started babbling away. I was so proud the first time I heard him singing The Alphabet Song!” The National Deaf Children’s Society’s glue ear resource is free to download from the website, and provides impartial advice and information on the illness including the causes and possible treatments. Vicki Kirwin, Audiologist at the National Deaf Children’s Society, says: “This winter, thousands of children will be affected with glue ear, so it’s important to seek advice if you notice any symptoms with your child. If untreated, it can result in delays in speech, language, social and educational development.”

The glue ear resource can be downloaded for free at www.ndcs.org.uk/glueear

Where: When it comes to deciding where to shop, a massive 72% of UK mums are opting to shop online this year with only 25% of mums choosing to shop instore, and 3% in second hand stores, How: When buying Christmas presents 89% of mums buy one main present and a number of smaller presents, 1% buy only one main present and 10% of mums buy a number of smaller presents. Christmas Spend: MummyPages research reveals that 24% of mums lie to their partner about how much money they've spent and admit arguing with their partner about how much to spend on the children's presents. The most argumentative couples seem to come from the North East of England and Northern Ireland, the most deceitful from South West England and Wales! To help keep track of family finances over the festive season, 58% of parents in the UK set a Christmas budget. Costs: According to MummyPages research, the average spend per child on Christmas presents is £195 in the UK, 6% of mums admit spending less than £50 per child, 29% £51-100, 46% £101-200, 13% £201-300 and 6% of parents spend a whopping £301-500 per child. Christmas Shopping Rules: When it comes to deciding on what to buy children for Christmas, one in ! five mums admit disagreeing with their partner on the type of presents to buy their children. Most popular toy categories by age group: As part of MummyPages Christmas Shopping Habits research, the online parenting community asked mums what they intended to buy their children as their main Christmas present this year. Sadly, traditional toys categories including Books, Board Games and Crafts ranked low on the scoreboard in all age brackets. The most popular categories are: General toys and games that are linked to television and movie characters, in addition to Sports related gifts and Digital device / Gaming gifts Increase in screen time: MummyPages Christmas Gifts research also looked at the length of time children spend in front of screens which according to 1 out of 5 mums surveyed is becoming a major concern. MummyPages asked mums to estimate how much screen time their children will consume per day over the festive season and the results are as follows: - 63% estimate their children will spend two hours or less in

front of a screen - 34% will spend between two to four hours in front if a screen - 3% will spend a shocking four to eight hours in front of a screen A quarter of UK of mums surveyed feel guilty about how much time their child spends sitting in front of a screen. Commenting on the research, Amanda McKnight, Spokesperson for MummyPages.co.uk, one the UKs biggest online parenting communities said: “Christmas is a costly time of year with families spending an average of £195 per child. It is important to remember managing your child's gift expectations is the key to not putting yourself under immense financial pressure. Children remember experiences more than the toys they receive at Christmas, so plan some fun days out with the family over the festive period and spend time together enjoying one another.” “When it comes to buying gifts for young children less is more, one main present and a couple of smaller presents is plenty. Christmas morning can be an overwhelming time for children with all of

the presents they receive from Santa, parents and relatives. Sometimes putting some away and reintroducing them slowly over the Christmas holidays can be a good idea for children who get so much that they don't know what to play with!" “Our Christmas Shopping Habits research highlights one particularly concerning fact that only 2 out of 10 mums check to make sure gifts are age appropriate for their children. MummyPages urges mums to be more cautious as certain toys may pose as a possible choking hazard to smaller children. Also, for parents with older children, video games today are very graphic and may contain content unsuitable for children under 18yrs of age.” “Although it can be harder to entertain children in winter time, we would urge mums to try and get your children away from the screens and engage in other activities such as crafts, swimming, baking and board games. After all, what is Christmas without a family ‘debate’ over board games rules! The MummyPages.co.uk site is a great source of inspiration with lots of activity ideas for young and old children alike to keep them busy and having fun during the festive season.”

EDUCATION, INFORMATION

Success starts with a happy child In the heart of Somerset, Queen’s College Taunton educates children from their earliest steps in our Highgrove Nursery through to entry into some of the world’s most prestigious universities. Queen's College inspires our young people to achieve in every facet of their educational experience by placing the individual student at the heart of everything we do. We believe that success starts with a happy child who has the selfconfidence and enthusiasm to flourish. Our philosophy of breadth and excellence in the academic curriculum, coupled with a wealth of activities outside the classroom provide each student with an opportunity to discover and develop their talents and our students aim high. The children at Queen’s College consistently achieve some of the best academic results in the South West and

enjoy national and international success in a staggering range of cultural, aesthetic, intellectual and sporting activities. Our school is a community where everyone works together and great value is placed on understanding our responsibilities towards each other, practising good manners, enjoying all that

we do with passion and excitement and making an outstanding contribution to the local community and wider world. Belonging to the Queen’s family is very special and our students experience an education that provides a foundation and compass that last a lifetime.

Performing Arts develop a performing mind Creative expression in the form of dance, drama or musical performances can stimulate children’s imagination and help them bring their ideas to life. The performing arts can develop a child’s ability to empathise and improve their language and communication skills. The performing arts play a vital role in meeting children’s cultural, social and developmental needs. It helps them make sense of their emotions, introducing them to new ideas and allowing them to express opinions in a safe environment. As well as being thoroughly enjoyable for children, performing arts activities have been shown to have a significant impact on the process of improving Literacy levels in children. The ‘Talk for Writing’ approach which has been advocated by writer, poet and educational consultant Pie Corbett includes ‘Imitation’ or experiencing and learning a text orally. This is central to his three-fold plan for improving writing. Ultimately, performing arts is an excellent way to empower children to think in a number of different ways and may have the added benefit of aiding their academic performance. At Razzamataz Yeovil we encourage all of our students to contribute their ideas, whether in devising drama pieces or

Tom Gates Top of the Class By Liz Pichon Published by Scholastic We all know Tom Gates is a pretty amazing student, even if Mr Fullerman would rather chew off his own nose than admit it! How does Tom do it? Just follow these pointers: 1. stay awake in lessons (it helps) 2. don’t draw hilarious pictures of your teachers, 3. avoid the class bully, 4. never let Mum and Dad touch your school planner 5. don’t let your grumpy sister Delia boss you around. OK, so Tom may not exactly follow the points on this list, but hopefully that won’t stop him getting voted onto the school council…

The Playground Mafia By Clare Christian and Elisabeth Kent Published by John Blake Publishing The average school playground is full of bullies, show-offs and gossips – and we don’t mean the kids. In the playground, you can be sure to meet Competitive Mum, Bohemian Mum, Toyboy Dad and many more. This is a perfect book for any mum who has cowered behind the bike shed to avoid Ofsted Mum or hidden behind the wooden train to avoid being cornered by LeagueTables Mum. It is a funny and factual guide for anyone looking for means to cope with the ‘playground mafia’.

Baaa Humbug! A Shaun the Sheep Sticker Book By Aardman Animations Ltd Published by Walker Books Shaun the Sheep fans will be thrilled to find this sticker activity book under the tree this year. It’s Christmas time, and snow has covered Mossy Bottom Farm. Time for snowball fights and winter fun! Readers help the Flock to decorate the tree, avoid the mistletoe and spread holiday cheer with a range of activities – a word search, colouring-in pages, a crossword puzzle, coded messages and, of course, stickers galore!

The Iliad by Gillian Cross, illustrated by Neil Packer Published by Walker Books Gillian Cross's brilliant retelling and Neil Packer's glorious illustrations bring to life Homer's Iliad, one of the greatest stories ever told. The team behind The Odyssey (2012) now tell the story of the Trojan War. Cross's vivid adaptation begins with a beauty contest: the prize, a golden apple. In return for securing her victory, the goddess Aphrodite helps Prince Paris abduct Helen, wife to the king of Sparta. Enraged, the king and his Greek allies wage war on the Trojans. Nine years later, the fighting still rages on, but the Greeks are beginning to quarrel among themselves – Achilles and Agamemnon's petty argument has dire consequences for everyone caught in the crossfire. Neil Packer's pictures capture the beauty and remoteness of the setting, and bring a profound humanity to one of the finest literary achievements of Greek civilisation.

The Christmas Eve Tree By Delia Huddy, illustrated by Emily Sutton Published by Walker Books When the ugly little fir tree is taken to the city, no one wants to buy him; they prefer the big tall trees. But a homeless boy asks the shopkeeper if he can take the tree, and down by the river in a cardboard box, decorated with a few candles, the tree finds itself at the centre of a magical Christmas Eve it will never forget. A Christmas tale with a classic feel but a modern theme at its heart.

Catlantis By Anna Starobinets Illustrated by Andrzej Klimowski Published by Pushkin Children’s Books A thrilling adventure story about a heroic cat on a mission. As everyone knows, cats are descended from the prehistoric, mighty and magical Catlanteans. The favourites of the great God Pussiedon, they lived their nine lives on the legendary island of Catlantis. Until one day, cataclysm and catastrophe caused the island to sink into the ocean and disappear without a trace…

A Christmas Carol By Charles Dickens Illustrated by Quentin Blake Published by Pavilion Ebeneezer Scrooge, a mean miser, is visited by three ghosts of Christmas Eve. The ghosts show Scrooge the true value of Christmas: charity, good humour and love for his fellow man. Quentin Blake’s colourful and trademark illustrations guide the reader through Charles Dickens’ timeless story of Scrooge’s lively journey to find the meaning of Christmas.

Santa's Reindeer by Matilda Tristram and Tom Duxbury illustrated by Nick Sharratt Published by Walker Books Hunt for Reindeer's squeaky nose in this hilarious Christmas adventure. It’s Christmas Eve and Santa and Reindeer are about to deliver the presents. But then Reindeer loses his nose! Polar Bear, Seal and Penguin haven’t seen it. Can Reindeer find his missing nose before it’s too late? A fun and festive gift for young children.

12 Days of Christmas -Why confidence is the key to a stress-free Christmas Christmas comes around quicker and quicker each year it seems, and very soon it will be that time again when our homes get filled with twinkly lights, our diaries get filled with glitzy parties and we all get set for the perfect Christmas, right? Well actually, the idyllic images from Christmas cards and feelgood festive films are far from a reality for most people. For millions of women, so many different pressures - how we look, financial strains, family expectations for everything to be perfect - result in us putting ourselves right at the bottom of the festive priority list. So, because you've been good this year, Confidence Coaches, The Good Witches of the North, are here to give you a whole new twelve days of Christmas that will give you the confidence to enjoy your Christmas, in a way that works for you! ❆ ❆ ❆ Manage Expectations these are big around the festivities! The reality is that none of us exist in a Disney film, none of us have fallen off the front of a twee Christmas card, so let's manage these from the get-go: i. Make the time sometime before the chaos of Christmas really hits to sit down for an hour and make a list of what you would like to achieve this festive season. Make it manageable (e.g. attend two good parties, have three evenings in PJs with films and mince pies, have Xmas dinner ready by 3pm, rather than 1pm…) but make it what you want, because it is entirely up to you to make sure you are working towards your targets, and not those imposed by others. ii. Manage the expectations for everyone involved - be clear about what you will and won't be doing. People aren't mind readers, so have the confidence to speak out in a clear and pleasant yet firm way. ❆ ❆ ❆ Hold Your Boundaries People will push and make demands of you more than ever over the festive season, so make sure you hold your personal boundaries around space, time, and anything else. The best way to enjoy your Christmas is to not be stressed and frazzled by the time it arrives, so have the confidence to be a little bit selfish and do what you need to do to take care of yourself in the run up to it. Keeping yourself well, first and foremost, is the surefire way to do this. ❆ ❆ ❆ Notice where your head is at! Are you already pushing the ghosts

of Christmas past into the picture? If you're not careful, by anticipating stress, things going wrong and not being able to hold it together, we can end up creating the very things we dread because we are fixed on them. Remember, everything that happens is down to you, so shift your attention: i) Take the time to really notice the things you are worried about, either consciously or unconsciously, and write them down. ii) Go back to your list and reread it. Then simply re-write it again. So for example, "I'm really worried that Auntie Sal and Bob will end up in a political argument after dinner" becomes something productive such as, "after dinner this year, I'm going to move everyone into the lounge for drinks, mince pies and games." You can help other people break their bad habits by breaking away from your part in them. ❆ ❆ ❆ Don't sweat the small stuff the right crockery, the lights being in the right place, the right candle scents, the right wrapping paper - who actually cares about this stuff, and who will remember it in years to come? Have the confidence to just accept that it is what it is none of that stuff determines how much fun you will have or happiness you will feel. Live in the ‘is' world, not in the ‘should' world. It is a far happier place. Put that attention on connecting with people, listening, talking and creating time and space for people instead of things. ❆ ❆ ❆ Celebrate those you can't be with - whether they are in a different country or no longer with you, it can be easy to spend time missing people and feeling sad. Instead, find a small ritual you can do to toast them. Music can be great for this. So if your sister is miles away, put on her favourite record, Skype her and have a dance together despite the time difference. If your mum is no longer around, buy her favourite tipple for everyone, play her favourite tune, and toast her memory before exchanging a funny story each about her. Don't shy away from it - have the confidence to include them all in your celebrations in a positive way and create more treasured memories. ❆ ❆ ❆ If it begins to get too much… - don't be afraid

4

5

6

to simply ask for help. Other people can't always see how you feel unless you speak up. If you nip the stress in the bud, then nobody may know, but if you let it build up then inevitably it will explode out in one way or another. So, if you feel like things are too much, have the confidence to ask friends and family "might you be able to help me with x?" Most of the time people will only be too happy to do their part, especially at Christmas. There is no happiness in being a martyr! ❆ ❆ ❆ If you are overwhelmed by party invitations, then be realistic about which ones you can attend. Of course it is nice to be in demand, but overcommitment can be incredibly stressful at Christmas time. Instead, have the confidence to limit yourself and choose a couple that you would really like to go to. Everyone is in the same boat so people won't be offended if for others you just go for an hour to say hello, happy Christmas, and raise a glass. Sometimes making this agreement with a friend can help too - you both agree to go for an hour and then leave together. If you have an ally you are less likely to over-indulge and you will both still get to bed at a decent hour for those all-important zzzz's. ❆ ❆ ❆ Plan a few outfit combinations ahead of time, accessories and all - a few party combos and a few casual combos can really take the stress out of knowing what to wear on the day/night. Make an event of it, put on your favourite tunes, lock the door and have some fun putting some combos together so you know you have just the thing when the moment hits. Most importantly, have the confidence to embrace who you truly are, accept the body you have, focus on the bits of you that you love, and make sure that inner voice talks to you in the kind of loving, supportive way you would expect from a best friend. ❆ ❆ ❆ Stagger it! - Take your time and buy a present a week. This way you are way more likely to stick to your budget, you'll be confident that you've taken the time to consider and buy something that the recipient will love, you'll avoid the stresses and also stay well clear of an excess of Christmas

music being piped into your brain! Shopping online is an even better way of doing this, as long as you remember delivery windows and the fact that every click does actually equal cash! ❆ ❆ ❆ Move, laugh and talk Being active is a great way to feel energised and confident, so don't hide away in a corner at parties or slump on the sofa after Christmas dinner. Remember this is your Christmas and you're going to have fun, so don't be afraid to dance around the room. If things get overwhelming, go for a walk, call a friend, reach out, find the funny side, cry when you want to cry, laugh when you want to laugh, talk it out to the dog, the cat, the pigeons… whatever you need to do to release the inevitable pressure cooker - do it. It helps to keep life, and especially Christmas, in perspective! ❆ ❆ ❆ Nutrition and water - ‘tis the season to be jolly, to eat, drink and be merry of course. And do so! Life is to be lived after all. However, dull as it sounds, you'll be much more healthy, confident, energised and ready to have fun if you make sure you also drink enough water and get your balance of good stuff like fruit and veg. A good probiotic and milk thistle can help process all sugary stuff, including the bubbles and other booze, and keep your system in balance all the way into the New Year. ❆ ❆ ❆ Be your own present to yourself - unless you have the confidence to put yourself at the centre of your world, you risk losing yourself amidst the whirlwind of shopping bags and wrapping paper. You are too important to be lost! By nurturing yourself, being kind to yourself (and that includes forgiving and letting yourself off the hook regularly) it will help you to not just get through the festivities, but be present in the moment and enjoy it too! If you catch your brain worrying about what's gone wrong or getting anxious about what to do next, just stop - pay attention to what you have - smile and say thank you.
