How to Read the Activity/Course Information

Family Rock Climbing

Family rock climbing is designed for families who want to learn to climb together. Family rock climbing teaches parents the skills necessary to safely climb with their children in an indoor climbing gym. Maximum harness size is a 42” waist and 28” thigh. Price includes one adult and one child. Additional adult or child may also enroll at a cost of $15. Children must be six years of age or older. Please have one adult for every three children.

Bring the whole family. Everyone will indulge in this exciting paint pouring technique while watching incredible cells form before their eyes. We will be pouring several paint colors (of your choice) into a cup and pouring them onto an 11” x 14” canvas; creating something amazing! All supplies are included, along with a take home tray. Aprons are provided and we recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind getting paint on. Price is per person.

Arbor Hills Nature Adventure

Come out and explore the natural wonders of Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. A Texas Master Naturalist will guide you along the way. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone attending must register.

ASTRONOMY & NATURE AT NIGHT

See a different side to nature, exploring the stars and night sky. A trained guide will take you through the nature preserve while you learn about the many constellations, how to navigate at night, astronomy, and the nocturnal animals in the area. Walking will be on both concrete and unpaved trails. Registration is per family.

NEW! BIRD WALK

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, with its many different habitats, attracts a diversity of bird species. Join us on the bird walk, where we will use our eyes and ears to discover our avian neighbors. Any age is welcome. In order to hear the bird songs, this will be a quiet walk.

NEW! HISTORICAL USES OF PLANTS

Step back into time while exploring the natural wonders of Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Come and learn about ethnobotany - the practical uses of plants and trees by the early settlers and Native Americans. A Texas Master Naturalist will guide you along the way. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone attending must register.

Intro To Camping

Are you itching to get outside but not sure where to start? Then this class is for you! Whether it’s in a tent or car, this class gives you the basics needed to pick the right gear, pitch your tent, and how to make and put out a campfire, and prep and keep food.

Natural Wonders Of Oak Point

Walk along beautiful Rowlett Creek, through an old growth forest, or amble through a meadow of prairie wildflowers. The beauty and diversity of Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve will amaze you on this guided walk. Learn about the birds, plants, animals, and more, including their names, historic uses, and hidden secrets. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone attending must register.

NEW! SATURN’S RINGS & MOONS EVENT

Celebrate Plano’s 150th anniversary with a slightly older universe. Earth will be between the Sun and Saturn (Saturn at opposition). During this time, Saturn’s rings and moons will be visible. Join us for an optional hike by a Texas Master Naturalist. View Saturn through several telescopes provided by the Texas Astronomical Society. This star party will include a waxing Gibbous Moon with a view of the mountains and craters, Neptune, and more. Please bring your binoculars and you will be shown how to find items in the sky. Come to see and learn about these visual wonders from astronomical experts.

NEW! DANCE PAWTY WITH MY PET (3-6 YRS)

Raise your paws if you love Paw Patrol™. We’re celebrating the tenth anniversary of Paw Patrol with this PAWsitively awesome ballet, hip-hop, and creative movement camp. Tiny dancers can bring their favorite stuffed pet (dog, cat, dino, anything goes) to unleash the fun on different dance adventures while earning paw prints in their Pet Pawfolios. Students should arrive in flexible play clothing and tennis shoes. No sandals will be permitted. Must bring your own water bottle and snack. Camp T-shirt included to be worn on the last day for our showcase performance.

Play is the work of the child. Research has shown that the first few years of a child’s life provide the foundation for future learning. Your little one will enjoy this relaxed preschool setting that will expand on social skills through group play and sensory centers. Concepts of ABC’s, colors, shapes and more will be introduced. EARLY ACHIEVER’S PRESCHOOL ACADEMY (3-5 YRS)

This fun-filled academic preschool program class utilizes a hands-on, theme-based yearly curriculum that focuses on the academic, social, emotional, physical and creative development of each student. This ongoing academic preschool covers areas of reading, writing, science, safety, health, social studies, math, art, music and movement. Must be potty trained. All supplies are included. INTRO TO MATH & READING (3-6 YRS)

Your preschoolers will learn to take their first steps towards reading and math. Using stories, games, art, and crafts each class will be aimed at preparing your child. Concepts will include an introduction to reading, writing, spelling, rhyming, letter, and sound recognition, adding, subtracting, graphs, time, money calendars, and more. Taught by a certified Montessori teacher. Please bring a nut-free, healthy snack. $10 supply fee due to the instructor on the first day of class. Your child must be potty trained.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS (3-5 YRS)

This class will teach your child the skills he or she will need to be successful entering into kindergarten. Children will be introduced to handwriting, basic math concepts, language and phonics. KINDERMUSIK® BUSY DAYS (NEWBORN/18 MOS/PARENT)

Set your baby’s day to classical music. Each lesson features new songs and activities for the parent to use for all the places they take baby in daily life; the store, the playground, the doctor, and more. Enroll your daughter today and let her experience what it is like to be a real gymnast. Students will be taught beginning gymnastics skills on the vault, bars, beam and floor in a fun and safe environment. We make no guarantees that students will move on to the Olympics, but we do guarantee we will provide them a lot of fun!

LIL’ SLUGGERS® MASCOTS (2 YRS/PARENT)

The Mascots curriculum is designed for children to begin their baseball experience in a fun environment that introduces the basics of the game. Children will learn simple base running and recognition, hitting, holding the bat properly, hitting the ball off of a tee, base running and recognition, overhand throwing motions, two hand fielding, and much more.

LIL’ SLUGGERS® MINORS (3 YRS)

The Minors curriculum is designed for children to continue their baseball experience in a fun environment that reinforces the fundamentals of the game. Players will learn proper stance and level hitting off the tee, introduction to pitch hitting, base running and recognition, throwing, two-handed fielding, and much more.

LIL’ SLUGGERS® MAJORS (4 YRS)

The Majors curriculum expands on slightly more technical instruction and game situation skills. Students will learn base running and sliding techniques, proper hitting stance, follow through and level swinging off the tee, as well as begin hitting from a pitch by the coach. Students will also work on proper throwing and catching motions.

LIL’ SLUGGERS® HALL OF FAMERS (5-6 YRS)

The Hall of Famers curriculum is designed for children to continue improving their fundamental skills while preparing them for next level tee-ball. Participants will learn the five steps of hitting formation, base running and recognition techniques, accuracy and distance throwing mechanics, fielding and catching techniques.

SOCCER SPARKS® SOCCER SKILLS (2-3 YRS/PARENT)

This is a parent and child soccer class. By playing fun games, children improve their blossoming balance, coordination, and general motor skills. Aside from learning how to dribble and strike a soccer ball, children and their parents will also get the opportunity to share those first, unforgettable, goal-scoring adventures together.

SOCCER SPARKS® SOCCER SKILLS (3-4 YRS)

This class is designed to help kids develop their large motor skills by running, dribbling, and kicking the ball while having lots of fun. Children will learn the very basics of soccer through skill demonstrations and games as they transition from parent/child to individual participation.

SOCCER SPARKS® SOCCER SKILLS (4-5 YRS)

Dribble, kick, and pass! This class is designed to spark an early passion for the game in young players. This class will encourage greater retention of fundamental soccer skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting in a positive environment. TINY-HAWK® SOCCER (3-4 YRS)

ADVENTURES IN ART CAMP (5-13 YRS)

Finally a fine art camp teaching fine art, not crafts. Your artist will learn realistic painting, brush loading, perspective, color theory and drawing through the use of watercolors, heavy and light acrylics, charcoals, and oil pastels. Students will complete eight amazing landscapes, seascapes, animals and still lives that you’ll be proud to frame. All new curriculum each session for new or returning students. CLAY GARDEN TOTEMS WORKSHOP (10-17 YRS)

Create a fun and colorful garden totem for your yard. Use clay techniques such as pinch, slab and coiling to create fun beads, animals, flowers and other shapes to build your totem. Your glazed and colorful totem will be assembled on a 36” pole, inserted into the ground to provide you a beautiful outdoor sculpture. Know the thrill of creating with clay. Students will learn coil, pinch and slab methods of hand building as they create their very own original art pottery. KENDO YOUTH (7-14 YRS) (BEG)

Kendo is the Japanese martial art of bamboo fencing, teaching patience, discipline, posture, physical and mental health. Kendo practitioners dress in the traditional attire of the ancient samurai, and use shinai (bamboo swords) to strike four specific areas on the opponent while simultaneously calling out a loud kiai (voice) as an accurate signal that the strike is made with strong spirit. Kendo is characterized by constant respect for one’s opponent, the honoring of culture and etiquette, and the importance of polishing one’s own heart through training. Instructors have experience in teaching and coaching kendo to students of all ages. A one-time $70 initial registration fee and $30 supply fee (for the shinai) is due to the instructor on the first day of class for new members.

This course is designed for archers who have completed beginning archery class. Students in this class will continue to refine their form to improve accuracy and graduate to a smaller target face. Participants will also be introduced to how USA Archery tournaments are run and have a chance to compete in a mock tournament to test their skills. All equipment will be supplied.

ARCHERY OPEN RANGE (8 YRS & UP)

Do you want to test your skills with a bow and arrow? Bring your friends, come on out and give it a shot. This is not an instructional class, but rather an opportunity to try the sport. A range officer will be onsite to provide safety instruction, monitor and run the shooting lines. All equipment will be supplied.

Performing Arts

BALLET & CREATIVE DANCE (6-12 YRS)

Learn the basics of ballet including positions, barre work, stretching and jumps. Students will learn a new dance each week and perform for parents on the final class. Please wear ballet shoes. Leotards and tights are recommended.

Ballet, tap, and GLOW. Come join us for a dance glow party. Students will explore ballet and tap techniques, and experience what ballet and tap combo dance class is like. This is a great opportunity for beginners and familiar dancers alike to come and have a great time dancing together. Students should arrive in flexible play clothing and tennis shoes. No sandals will be permitted. Some glow items will be provided for the party, but students are welcome to bring their own glowing materials or wands.

BALLET BASICS (7-10 YRS)

This class will set the foundation for young dancers. Students will focus on traditional barre with introduction to basic leaps, turns and jumps while dancing to songs dancers know and love. This class is perfect for beginners and will help them build confidence and make new friends.

BHARATANATYAM DANCE (6-11 YRS)

Bharatanatyam, the most widely practiced form of Indian Classical dances in the world, is considered to be over 2000 years old from South India. A Bharatanatyam dancer narrates, evokes, and creates dramatic images through her eyes, body, and gestures. In this elementary course, children with no dance training will be introduced to the rudimentary movements of Bharatanatyam. Proficiency in the art is attained only after several years of intensive training. Students will need to bring a notebook and writing utensil to each class.

DDA ELEMENTARY BALLET (7-12 YRS)

Students will learn basic ballet technique and terminology of ballet. Students will also be working on performance pieces of choreography. Through fun and energetic exercises, in a structured class setting, students will focus on fluidity of motion, musicality, and performance skills. Leotard, tights, and ballet shoes are required. On the final day of camp parents will watch their dancers shine like a diamond during the parent show-off. Free tutu included.

BAD ART NIGHT (5-16 YRS)

KIDS NIGHT OUT-WITH A TWIST (4-12 YRS)

Hey parents, do you need some time to relax? Drop your kids off with us! Coaches will be available to assist children. Pre-registration is highly recommended. Walk-in guests are not guaranteed a space due to the safety of the children. Walk-in guest fee is $13.

Year-round gymnastics program offering gymnastics instruction for boys ages 4 to 10 and girls ages 3 to 16 at Oak Point Recreation Center and Carpenter Park Recreation Center.

Beginner through advanced skills are taught on vault, bars, beam and floor for girls. Pommel horse, rings, vault, high bar, parallel bars and floor are offered for boys.

Cimarron Day Camps

CIMARRON YOUTH CAMP (6-12 YRS)

Camp Cimarron is an outdoor program located at Bob Woodruff South Pavilion, offering a wide range of outdoor recreation activities for children. The camp provides opportunities to learn about the natural environment through fun nature hikes and environmental education activities including fishing, crafts, games, swimming, and other activities. Camp hours are 8am-4pm with early drop off and extended camp offered separately running from 7:15-8am and 4-5:30pm respectively. Camp will be held at Oak Point Recreation Center (OPC) on inclement weather days. Registration closes at NOON the Friday before each camp starts

CIMARRON YOUTH CAMP (6-12 YRS)

Camp Refund Policy

Full refunds will be granted when requested more than two weeks prior to the beginning of camp. Refunds requested less than two weeks prior to the start date will not be granted, unless the vacated spot is filled. If the spot is filled, a refund will be granted less a $5 administrative fee.

Medical refunds requested prior to the start date of camp will be granted in full. An original doctor’s note must be provided at the time of the request for all medical refunds to be processed.

Refunds will not be granted due to the following reasons: weather conditions, summer heat, sunburn, a camper’s behavior, absence from camp, camp assignments, or after the camp session or season.

Parents are responsible for making sure children are registered in the correct camp program or session. If an error is found after registration please call and have it corrected prior to the camp season. Refunds will not be granted after the camp season has ended.

Staff at all recreation facilities or the Parks and Recreation administrative office, 972-941-7250, can process all refund requests made within these guidelines. SPORTS & ADVENTURE CAMP (11-16 YRS)

Love all sports and don’t want to settle with just playing one this summer? Want to journey through town participating in a fun variety of activities in various locations? Campers will have fun experiencing a variety of sports and activities, along with a visit to the pool. Who knows, you may actually learn a new sport you didn’t even know existed. Fee includes all equipment, instruction, and entry fees. Registration closes at NOON the Friday before each camp starts.

Camp Connections

CAMP CONNECTIONS (6-11 YRS)

Camp Connections is the perfect place to play in Plano for the summer and create lifelong memories. Camp will thrill your children’s creativity through arts and crafts, energize them with engaging outdoor games, and challenge them with multimedia styled activities. Discover different weekly themes throughout the summer to keep even the pickiest of tastes exploring new possibilities. Camp Connections registration is required to enroll in the Pre-Connections and the Post-Connections extensions, giving you many options to provide a fun and supervised environment for your children. Camp will be divided by appropriate age groups. A weekly e-mail newsletter will keep the entire family connected with the new and exciting activities that will take place each week for camp. Participants will swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Liberty Recreation Center and Wednesdays and Fridays at Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center. Carpenter campers will swim two to three days a week. Please bring a swimsuit, towel and flip-flops on your camper’s pool days. Campers will be swim tested before they will be able to access the deep end. Please send a sack lunch and drink for your children each day. All counselors are First Aid/CPR certified and have your children’s fun and safety as their top priorities.

PRE-CONNECTIONS (6-11 YRS)-$19

The 7:30am - 9am option is available for those early birds who need supervised activities prior to camp. The day will begin with light activities to wake up and start the day on the right foot. Please feel free to bring a light breakfast for your young one. It is not necessary to be at the facility of your choice right at 7:30. Take the time you need. Camp Connections registration is required to enroll.

POST-CONNECTIONS (6-11 YRS)-$39

Keep the connection going with the 2pm - 5:30pm extension for campers to stay and play. Games and activities will entertain the afternoon hours away in a fun and supervised environment. Camp Connections registration is required to enroll. Liberty participants will have the opportunity to use the outdoor pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Tom Muehlenbeck participants will have the opportunity to use the indoor and outdoor pools on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please bring a swimsuit, towel and flip-flops on your camper’s pool days. Campers will be swim tested before they will be able to access the deep end. A late fee of $5 for every 15 minutes will be charged to parents when picking up campers after 5:30pm.

TEENS OUTREACH & ADVENTURE (14-16 YRS)

Does your teen need to get out of the house this summer? While at camp, teens will have the opportunity to participate in community service projects, experience a college tour, socialize with peers and learn leadership skills while having fun. All participants will earn community service points for school and other organizations.

Staff will provide boys and girls with an in-depth look into the art and skill of shooting and shot-making craft. We will teach shooting techniques, shot mechanics, skill, and the mental approach needed for success. Each player’s shot will be broken down for a systematic evaluation. Each stage of the shot process design will be critiqued, communicated, taught, and then reinforced with positive feedback and energetic repetition. Based on each individual’s own personal shot/shot making capabilities, an in-depth analysis will be given to each student. Clinic is designed for the player who is willing to work hard. Participants will be grouped according to age and ability. If you wish to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions, please sign up and pay for each session separately. Bring a lunch.
