Mount Warning is the central volcanic remnant of an ancient shield volcano, the Tweed Volcano,.Which would have been about 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level or just under twice the height of the current mountain. This volcano erupted around 23 million years ago. As the mountain’s central vent cooled, it shrank, forming a depression at the top that has greatly eroded.

Take some time out and explore the Tweed/Byron hinterland. Heading north from Byron Bay, take the Tweed Valley Way, Murwillumbah exit from the M1, tourist route 40. Enjoy a meandering country drive to Burringbar located just 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. Turn into the Burringbar Village and you will discover pleasantly charming main street with shady Masterson Park on one side with plenty of free parking, 3 prominent War Memorials and clean, well maintained public amenities as well as a public BBQ and picnic facilities. You can get your supplies from the local shops across the road if you decide to picnic or choose one of our cafés.
