2022 AMC Math Exam Scholarship Recipient - Marissa German
The AMC (American Mathematics Competition) 12 is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examination in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school math curriculum--including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.
The exams were administered around the country on Wednesday, November 10th. The AMC 12 provides an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. It is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. Each year, Patrick Grengs, a Somerset High School graduate of the Class of 1983, donates $1,000 to the student who scores the highest on the exam. This year’s AMC 12 winner is Marissa German, an 11th grade student at Somerset High School. Marissa is the daughter of Gabe and Paula German. Seven students competed in this competition this year. Congratulations Marissa!
