Plan to attend PAOBA Summer Retreat MAKING A BUSINESS PLAN THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU!

Here are some questions every business owner should plan to answer….how many can you? DO YOU HAVE A BUSINESS PLAN? IS IT WORKING FOR YOU? WHEN DID YOU LAST REVIEW IT? WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE MORE MONEY? WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAVE MONEY RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT OPTIONS ARE THERE TO EXPAND OR SIMPLIFY YOUR BUSINESS? HOW DOES YOUR BUSINESS DIFFERENTIATE ITSELF? WHAT IS THE NEED THAT YOUR BUSINESS EXISTS TO SATISFY? HOW BIG IS THE MARKET YOU ARE ENTERING? WHO WILL YOU BE TARGETING AS CUSTOMERS? WHAT ARE THE ECONOMICS OF YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO BREAK-EVEN? WHAT WILL BE YOUR MOST EFFECTIVE MARKETING STRATEGY? WHAT IS YOUR EXIT STRATEGY?

Plan to join us in Happy Valley… aka Penn State…as we help you answer these questions and more! Our Guest Speaker will be Sarah Cornelisse, who is the Senior Extension Associate at Penn State, University Park in the Dept. of Agricultural Economics, Sociology and Education. Extension programming is developed to educate agricultural entrepreneurs on issues associated with business management and marketing. Sarah is currently focused on value-added agricultural entrepreneurship with a particular interest in value-added dairy products, business and marketing planning, and the use of social media for farm direct marketing. She has given countless

workshops and lecture series and courses on most topics related to a g r i c u l t u re b u s i n e s s p l a n n i n g , management and marketing. Sarah Cornelisse and an associate will begin Saturday’s session with lectures and discussions on business planning with special emphasis as it relates to the alpaca business. In the afternoon, we will break out into smaller work groups that will provide networking, opportunities for exchange of ideas and eventually, the development or revision of our own business plans. Participants can expect to leave with a good understanding of how their business plan needs to be unique, measurable and practical to their situation.

We have an impressive lineup for Day 2 of Business Planning…

once again, we will collect your fleece

Those of you who attended last year can attest to the enthusiasm generated

Wini Labrecque, Star Weaver Farm

from the presentation by Lynn Edens, Little Creek Farm, Salem, NY. Lynn will expand on her discussion of American Coalition of Alpaca Breeders (ACOA) and will have plenty of new information on the commercial side of alpaca fleece and terminal markets. If you want numbers and stats, this is the place to see them. Plus we will see the results from last year’s collection and

for the 2016 bale. and Sorting, Grading, and Classing will have completed the first six months of a very successful new venture teaming with SUNY Cobleskill, NY and offering classes in sorting, grading and classing fiber. Wini has long been known as a fiber expert, and she will present ways of using expertise and consultation as a business. If you’ve attended Wini’s classes in the past, you’ll agree that she always has something new and inspiring to offer.

Brett Kaysen’s biography is probably too long to write about here, but s u f fi c e t o s a y h i s l e c t u r e s & discussions create an atmosphere whereby learning is entertaining and applicable. Brett can talk on so many levels and his presentation on Diversification is one you won’t want to miss….and definitely it ’s an important one. Mike Vigus, AOA BOD Secretary, and West Penn Alpacas will join us again this year and provide us with an update on the AOA Strategic Plan and other news and take your questions

and comments. Check our website for updates! PAOBA is dedicated to supporting our Youth through various activities and financial support. Angie McClintock and Darwin Kell, Leaders in the 4H communities and active members of the Youth Committee, will update us on Youth Happenings as well as present information on the next PAOBA Princess & Ambassador Pageant.
