TIME WARP
WHO AM I? z I was born on July 31, 1965, in Gloucestershire, England. My first name is Joanne. z I studied at university before moving to Portugal in 1990 where I met and married a Portuguese journalist. We had a child in 1993. z After divorcing, I moved to Edinburgh with my daughter and began to work on a book. z My first manuscript was rejected several times before being published by Bloomsbury. Despite a limited initial print run, I won a prestigious British Book Award in 1997. z My subsequent novels smashed global sales records, my sixth selling nine million copies within 24 hours of its release in 2005. z The film adaptations of my series have also been huge hits. z My first novel for adults was The Casual Vacancy. WorkCover to promote farm safety at AgQuip
Harold W. Taylor building, c. 1940s or ‘50s THE Harold W. Taylor & Son building has been a prominent one for much of Dubbo’s history as a town and then city. The building is still located in Macquarie Street and now hous-
es a telco outlet, but for many years it was the premises for the local Ford car dealer. This photo was contributed by Roger Maxwell who worked at “H.W.” for 48 years, starting as a
15-year-old apprentice in 1958. Roger pointed out two extra things of interest in this photo, which was taken at some stage during the 1940s or ‘50s. Firstly, that Ottleys Butcher Shop is seen
at left in the photo – they relocated across the road some years later. Roger also pointed out the two men who are busy painting the top wall of the building.
WORKCOVER NSW will be at the AgQuip Field Days, Gunnedah from 18 – 20 August to promote greater awareness about the importance of farm safety. Farm safety is a priority as many farm roles involve working in remote or isolated areas away from emergency assistance and first aid. AgQuip attracts more than 100,000 visitors and so is a great opportunity for farmers to get advice on current farm safety practices, WorkCover said this week.
