“जयंग ु ब्यंखो – च्येऩी फंग्फा – टदमऱन दरमा” This data is from the book, „Shauka‟ by Late Shri Ratan Singh Raypa Ji . As we know, Rung people now come under Didihat district of Uttarakhand State (earlier Pithoragarh district) where Dharchula is the center town for them. Rung people are from different villages with different surnames. We are tabulating the names of Rung villages and some details about the people of those villages. „Basic Village‟ is the Main Village where our ancestors used to live; Current Location is the places where people have migrated in the past few decades. We have updated the original data by Raypa Ji.
Vyans The Vyansis (called 'Byankhopa' in 'Runglo') are a subgroup of an ethnic group called „Rung‟ along the upper valleys of Mahakali and its tributary Dhauliganga, high up in the Himalayas. Vyans (or 'Byankho' in 'Runglo') consists of seven villages (Kuti, Rongkang, Nabi, Gunji, Napalchyo, Garbyang, Budi) on the Indian side and two villages (Chhangru and Tinkar) on the Nepal side. Three distinct dialects are spoken in Vyans: Byankho-Lo, Kutpa-Lo, Tinkar-Lo. Basic Village Pangu Rimjhim Raungtau Baekung Chilasaun Himkhola Sosa Roong

Chaudas The Chaudasis (called 'Bangbani' in 'Runglo') live in Fourteen Villages along the upper hilly area of Mahakali River between India and Nepal. The villages here located between the altitude of 7000 and 9000 ft. Bangbanis speak a separate dialect of Rung called 'Bangba-Lo'. Pangu is the first village on the entrance of the Chaudas Valley. All the Bangbanis are known as “Jhankho”. One can visit the Holy shrine „Narayan Ashram‟ situated near Sosa – established by Shri Narayan Swami Ji.
Darma The Darmanis live in the Darma Valley of Dhauliganga, a tributary of Mahakali river. Along with the Byankhopas and Bangbanis, they form the three subgroups of Rung. They speak 'Darma-Lo', which is markedly different from 'Byankho-Lo' or 'Bangba-Lo'. The first main village of Darma Valley is „Dar‟. The current location of Darmani people is along the bank of „River Kali‟ nearer to Dharchula. NOTE: Some village names may be missing because of lower population, mixed population or formation after recent migration. We have not mentioned any details, so from the Next Issue onwards, we will cover Individual Villages.
