Behind The Book
In 2017, I lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and I was working as a restaurant manager for a well known restaurant chain. I think I was just itching to write at the time, but with work and caring for my daughter, I was exhausted by the end of each day. I was picking up my daughter from the babysitter when she started talking to me about a red balloon she got. I put her into the car and into her car seat, and she mentioned that she did not want to lose her red balloon. I finished strapping her in and making sure her balloon was okay. As we drove home and my baby girl went on about how she almost lost her red balloon, my mind began to wonder by the time I made it to the street that leads to my complex. I had a story in my mind, and thanks to my daughter’s non-stop conversation about her red balloon, we had a title.
Writing for me is a profound joy. My love for writing has brought me a lot of pain, rejected and even abuse. When I first set out to write, my husband at that time hated it. His psychological abuse turned physical, and soon after, I found myself homeless, confused, and scrapping to get back on my feet. Yet, the one thing I did not stop doing was writing. Almost eighteen books later. I am here to tell everyone and anyone to not give up on their dream. If you are with a person who refuses to support and encourage your passion. Don’t let them stop you. Don’t give anyone the power and ability to prevent your dream. My name is April Thomas; I am a mother, author, co-owner of Greenleaf Health LLC, and co-founder of Pandem Magazine.
