ACROSS THE DESK By Whitey & Robin Noll
February in Pennsylvania may be cold and snowy but there are musical events happening everywhere throughout the state. Many of us are tired of the cold, snow and being alone. Our new gadgets we got for Christmas are making our eyes buggy and it’s time to get out into the world and make human contact and get the cobwebs out of your mind by the sounds and sights of live entertainment and excellent foods that are served everyday. Super Bowl parties are everywhere if you don’t want to watch the game and the commercials alone. Cheers Bar has gone non-smoking so now you can enjoy Mary’s great cooking without the smell of smoke. She has something going on everyday. Market Cross Pub in Carlisle is hosting an event to benefit service dogs for Hilltop Academy. Hemlock Hollow will be providing the entertainment and I’m sure there will be many other things going on as well. They carry a variety of brews for a multitude of palettes. Nate Myers and the Aces will be entertaining on Valentine’s
Day and they have a wonderful party planned for all you and your Valentine. Market Cross Pub presents music for those who enjoy the more acoustical side of music. Mama Corn, bluegrass from the western part of the state will be finishing off the month on the 28th. If your ears like to hear blues, classic rock and bluegrass check out their schedule and plan accordingly. Adrian Blitzer opens the month at Tubby’s in Duncannon along with Bullet Method. On Friday, the 7th Take 147 takes the stage and believe me, they haven’t rocked for awhile with their Takers so get ready for a crazy night of fun, shenanigans and great music. They have been working on some new origianls. Randy has a great month of various types of music including a little country, some southern rock, classic rock and some heavy sounds that will blow you away. Millennium Music Conference 18 happens the 21st thru the 23rd and Tubbys will be hosting some top notched bands that want to rock you all night long. Check out the schedule of all the live music that is happening throughout central PA starting on page 15. Three nights of great music with 300 acts and artists with 30 Showcase venues. True Becoming, our cover feature will be rocking all of you that come out on Saturday, the 22nd at Tubby’s. The MMC is a great way to discover new sounds and new performers from all over the world. You also get to experience some wonderful local talent as well. It’s always a highlight of my year as I get to meet and see many people that I only email and talk to over the phone. It’s a great net working opportunity and an exchange of music industry knowledge and ideas abound. This year’s daytime conference is being held at the Best Western Premier Central Hotel and Conference Center off of Union Deposit Road and exit. It’s two days of Music Business panels, workshops, mentoring and trade show. Our own Jim Price, “the Professor” will be handling the Open Mic stage along with Meredith Kaminek. Rachel Rocks will be around taking notes and I’ll be working away on the March issue of the PA Musician Magazine. Enjoy and discover some new artist and music. Another great event happening the same weekend is Lancaster Roots and Blues, A Festival of Music, solidifies the Red Rose city as the crossroads for music in the mid-Atlantic on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, continued on next page ...
