WHAT IS SOY?

Supporting Our Youth (SOY) As a program of Sherbourne Health, SOY is an innovative community development program offering holistic support and diverse services to address the complex needs of LGBT2SQ youth aged 14-29 in Toronto.

SOY impacts SOY creates opportunities for youth to build resilience and confidence, improve health knowledge and access community resources through group-based and one-to-one supports. An inclusive, welcoming community is cultivated through SOY, helping to reduce isolation, improve mental health, and help youth grow skills to take into their adult lives.

SOY groups focus on Homeless and vulnerably housed youth Newcomer youth, including refugees Trans, gender non-binary and gender questioning youth Black, Multi-racial and African/Caribbean youth Interests such as the arts & performance and outdoor activities

Sherbourne Health

Since 2002, Sherbourne provides primary care, chronic disease management, mental health support, health promotion, and outreach. Our doors are open to everyone, and we focus on clients including members of the LGBT2SQ communities, homeless and under-housed people, and newcomers to Canada. We direct our efforts to improving health for under-served communities with high quality clinical care and responsive, culturally appropriate community development programs that bring barrier-free services to people in our communities who need it most.

HOW DO DONATIONS TO THE SOY BOWLATHON HELP?

1 youth attends SOY’s Express Program BUILDS RESILIENCE for ONE QUEER NEWCOMER YOUTH to learn how to navigate the Canadian immigration system, provides information on local resources and encourages participation in a shared community.

2 hours of dedicated one-to-one staff support for 1 trans youth

EMPOWERS one trans or gender questioning youth with EDUCATION on transitioning, provides HEALTH INFORMATION, SUPPORT for family and personal issues, and community resources.

1 full SOY Monday Night Drop-In session

Provides EMPLOYABLE SKILLS TRAINING, such as Food Handler Certification, for one LGBT2SQ youth, opening up pathways to employment and opportunities.

Meet your team’s $1,500 goal to keep the DROP-IN OPEN FOR ONE NIGHT, providing a safe space for homeless LGBT2SQ youth and those at risk of homelessness to have dinner, support from volunteer mentors, access resources and grow community.

Get together with friends, family or co-workers and form a team of up to 8 bowlers. Then… START FUNDRAISING! Each team aims to raise $1,500 in pledges.

SOY youth participate annually in youth teams. If you are unable to attend the Bowlathon, sponsoring a youth is a GREAT WAY to support the event.

Sign up and join a team with your own online fundraising page. Your fundraising page can be personalized and shared with all your friends and family. ONLINE FUNDRAISING IS SIMPLE AND EASY!

You can help us reach our fundraising goal by donating PRIZES to our draw or by purchasing draw tickets on the day of the event.
