Seek God’s Best By Dr. Teresa Hairston
I BIOGRAPHY Dr. Teresa Hairston has worked diligently over the last 21 years to build her company from the ground up. The founder and publisher of Gospel Today is now enjoying the fruits of her labor and her publication is a valued resource in the faith community. “I started the company from a four-page newsletter as a way to reach the urban Christian community and it has become one of the world's largest publications of its type. This is a vision that God gave me, it's certainly not something I signed up for — it is obedience from start to finish. It has been a journey of faith,” she says. Building an empire wasn't easy for the divorced mother of three, but she found the strength to conquer the obstacles. “I didn't have the money, the education, the background, friends or anything else to support what I was doing," Hairston says. “I just had faith and belief that if God called me to do it, then he would take me through it.” The success Hairston has obtained through her television show Gospel Today, and the publication of the same name, has opened the door for her to share more of her knowledge with others through her new book, How to Pursue Your Purpose. am "driven" by my understanding of the opportunity and
responsibility I have to leave a legacy during my lifetime. It is MY responsibility to expand my capacity to accomplish the assignment God has given me. I do that through relationships—with God, myself and others; formal and informal education (study); and experiences—both spiritual, physical and emotional. We are all assigned to "worship" God. Worship is a lifestyle, not a musical style. When we worship God—in spirit and in truth—we come into communion with God, and it is then that the Holy Spirit reveals specific assignments and unique direction to our spirits; and also reveals truth to our minds. It isn’t always easy or convenient to discern or obey the “leading” of the Holy Spirit, but when we do, and we go where He leads, we always find that we exceed our own grasp and we experience “overflow.” My goal in the future is to achieve “best” in every area of my life. I will do this by not actualizing MY best, but seeking God’s best. I have learned that the more I yield my mind, body and spirit to Him, the better His best is “in” and “through” me—and the more I lose control to Him, the better the journey is “in” Him!
