Index Preparation (for Qualified Nonfiction Books) An index maximizes the usability of a nonfiction title but can be prepared only after the final proof corrections have been made to the formatted book, which gives the exact page numbers of the final book. When you purchase our Indexing service, a professional indexer reviews your final page proofs to create a two-level index (containing main entries and subentries) tailored to your book’s subject matter and potential audience. See Chapter 7 for more on the Indexing service.

Printing After you approve your final proofs and, if applicable, send us your completed index, we’ll send the appropriate files to the printer. Within weeks, you’ll receive a shipment of author copies, and the electronic and print versions of your book will become available for direct purchase through iUniverse, selected retail outlets, and online booksellers, as determined by your publishing package.

Wow. Working with iUniverse has been a great experience. It’s not often that online services deliver what they promise, but iUniverse has delivered beyond my expectations. For a first-time author, it has been not only an easy system but also a great educational tool. Your assisted support removes any concerns about the process. — S. G. Bell Author, The Magic Islands

Beyond Publishing Your book’s publication doesn’t mark the end of your journey. If your goal is to build a wide readership, you’re just beginning another leg of the trip—marketing and publicity, which we’ll cover in the next chapter.
