Bull Sale 2024

Another year has come and gone, so we’d like to welcome you to our 4th annual sale. This past year has seen some major changes around our place. Some were planned and others were not. First of these changes was Melissa accepting a job offer with CCIA. I know what most of you are thinking: “she finally had enough of working with him!!!” She has been working with them for just over a year and enjoys it. Second was something that made both Melissa and myself really feel the wrath of father time. Our daughter, Emma, graduated high school with honors in June. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were graduating ourselves. Emma was nice enough to stick around home for the summer to get some more family time in before her next adventure in life, which we all appreciated. Then, in the fall, she was off to school. She was privileged to start her studies at SAIT in Calgary to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. SAIT is one of the highest regarded ultrasound programs in the country, so we are very proud of her. We all miss having her at home, especially Manni, but we are proud that she will be able to make a difference in people’s lives.

They are a good, solid, consistent group that had to grow up in another underwhelming drought year. Saying that, the cattle market is looking very positive and these guys should be the sires of record selling calves! Our bulls are managed in a responsible way to ensure they last for our customers. They are not fed to be fat bulls sale day that melt away at their new homes. The sale will be on DLMS. Our sale staff is mostly the same as before, however, Nate has a new role with Bohrson Marketing. Nate will be here, as before, while representing Bohrson as well. We also added Rob Voice working the block for us this year, as well as in a consulting capacity. Rob is well respected in the industry and we are glad to have him. The major unplanned event happened during fall with the passing of Gary Gordon. He entered into Melissa’s life in a stepfather role after her father, Stan, passed away when she was 13. Gary hardly missed any of the kid’s activities and was always a help when called upon. We always appreciated how much he cared about Betty and he is missed by all. Consistency Every Year To say that this 69C cow is consistent would be an understatement. Every year her progeny rises to the top. As of right now, she has had a total of seven sons used in purebred herds and countless other high-end sons working in top notch commercial herds. Now that her daughters are coming into production, they are following in their mother’s footsteps; putting out some high-end sons themselves. One of which was a $25000.00 US bull selling for Sandhill Red Angus in Montana last spring. She continually produces thick easy doing cattle with exceptional foot quality. Now a little about the sire of these 2 embryo calves. One of the main reasons we used him was because of this mother. When we saw her, we tried to own her but so did lots of other people. We went hard but we fell a bit short as she sold for $55,000. However, the easiest way to get her influence is to use a son and that is where Genesis comes in. He is a low birth weight highly maternal sire that still produces good growth. This mating is a s good as it gets.

Gone but Never Forgotten This past year we lost someone very close to us. Gary Gordon was always helping us out by picking up parts, going on the catalogue run, fixing the equipment or running the kids to their events when time did not allow us to do so ourselves. Gary rarely missed one of the kids’ football, baseball, hockey or 4-H events. He was so very proud of them. As we learn to move through life without him, we realize now how many shoes he really did fill. Thank you, Gary, for being the person we could lean on and doing things for us that you really did not have to. We miss you and love you.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Should the purchaser fail to settle for their purchase Hawkeye Ranching Company Ltd. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice.
