In 2010, Patricia Castellini Headley ’91 and her sister Elizabeth Castellini Robinson ’85 established the Patricia Castellini Headley ’91 and Elizabeth Castellini Robinson ’85 Scholarship Fund. Kenneth Mard III ’99 and his mother Liz
established a fund for Canterbury’s theater program, the Kenneth C. Mard Jr. Endowment for the Dramatic Arts, in 2011. Tom ’91 and Christine ’90 Cook established the JP Mandler Scholarship Fund. Other funds established during this time arose from tragedy. In July 1999, Giuseppe “Joe” Leto ’97 succumbed to heat exhaustion and died during basic training maneuvers with the United States Marine Corps after his commanding officer improperly marched his charges. Joe had been an active participant on Canterbury’s football, wrestling, and lacrosse teams, and he had captained the wrestling team. Canterbury’s “Run for Joe” raises

scholarship funds for a Canterbury student. On March 5, 1998, Third Former Nicholas J. DiTullio died after collapsing days earlier during a Canterbury basketball game. His family and friends established the Nicholas J. DiTullio ’01 Scholarship Fund. On June 27, 1997, Vincent Nelson ’00 died in a drowning accident in Lake Lillinonah in Brookfield, CT. The Vincent Nelson ’00 Scholarship Fund was established by his family and friends in 2000. Some members of this era’s student body deserve mention for other reasons. Canterbury’s first set of triplets, Krista, Robert, and John O’Gara, graduated in 2012. After Hilton McAuliffe ’01 became a student, and his father, John McAuliffe, became a trustee, Hilton’s cousin Paris Hilton attended Canterbury for a time. More than half of Canterbury’s alumni graduated from the School between 1990 and 2015. Canterbury’s future will soon rest in their hands. That so many have already given back to the School through establishing funds, serving on the Board, participating in the Society of Alumni, and maintaining an interest in Canterbury bodes well for Canterbury to flourish in the years to come.
