PORTFOLIO PALLAVI MAMBILLIL
Product
The project aims on finding a solution to a problem with a simple and convenient product. The students are required to make their own briefs for this, which they then work upon.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
After hand stitching the needle is pushed into the threads of the spool which may harm the user or prove to be a difficult task to insert and extract.
DESIGN BRIEF
To create a way to safely store a needle with the spool of thread.
IDEATION AND PROTOTYPING
The next part was to ideate on how this problem could be best solved. As my product was small I was able to make several mock-ups for my concepts and have them user tested for improvements.
RESEARCH AND DATA COLLECTION
The project started with research and analysis, that involved interviewing the target audience, a detailed task of analysis and study of the products that are already in the market that also cater to this field of interest.
FINAL MODELS AND FORMS
Once the concept was finalized, I explored the possibilities in terms of the form of the product. Complete working models were made using acyrilic sheets and pipes. The inside of the tube was filled with sponge to hold the needle in place.
Experience
EXPERIENCE DESIGN
This project, titled, Pu.r.suit, was a maze that traversed the entire campus taking the person through the life of a rose as if it was their own journey. At every stage they would be asked questions and required to make choices. Every step also showed how the rose plant changed from a bud to a flower to the withered and dry remains. The aim of the project was to encourage self reflection and to see how life goes on no matter what. Was part of a two day Exhibit at NID Bangalore.

Form Study
FACE TO FACE
Understanding form and its characteristics. Form inspired from the human face.
HESTIA
Classic products just have something about them, which is what we tried to decode.Taking inspiration from an existing product we tried to create a form for the future. Hestia, has the proportions of the classis Toyota GT 2000 but her curves come straight out of sci-fi novels.
