THE COLOUR MARKET

A little over a year ago, The Colour Market opened in Kerrisdale, taking over the former location of the dollar store on West 41st Avenue. This Benjamin Moore-owned store is the first of its kind, with a long-term vision of expanding to major cities across Canada.

Branded as Vancouver’s one-stop shop for home décor, stationery and gifts, it has become a destination for locals and tourists alike. Visitors are so impressed with the store that they often request The Colour Market in their hometowns.

The concept revolves around colour-focused, high-quality home decor and goods.

Store manager Cherry Jimenez shares, “Visitors are impressed by the store's transformation. Customers describe the space as bright, cheerful, and enjoyable. Our team often notes that even when someone leaves without making a purchase, they still take a moment to express how stunning the store is. They engage in conversations about our products and their connection to colour, reinforcing that we’re on the right path and have created something special.”

The Colour Market has deep ties to the community. Cherry says, “The Kerrisdale area is familiar to us; we ran the Benjamin Moore store here for nearly 20 years before closing it during COVID. Many of us grew up in the area, went to school and reside in Kerrisdale.”

It dawned on us, as colour experts, that we could offer customers a one-stop shop for all their decorating needs.

“For over 20 years, we’ve owned and operated six Benjamin Moore paint and decorating stores. During that time, we saw an increasing demand for guidance in pairing wall paint colours with home decor and styling spaces with colour.”

"About three years ago, the team tested the concept with a Colour Market pop-up at their flagship Benjamin Moore location on West Broadway. The positive response led us down this path to the first stand-alone store in Kerrisdale."

“Our products are carefully sourced from Canada and other parts of the world such as Denmark, Japan, Portugal, Turkey, the United Kingdom and more. We also carry drinks and snacks with fun and colourful branding, which are a hit with the local schools and transit goers as a grab-and-go,” says Cherry.

Turkish-made Aykasa foldable storage crates come in over 20 different colours and three sizes. Pantone Lifestyle (Denmark) takes Pantone’s iconic colour palette onto stationery, drinkware and accessories.

Cherry mentions, “Some other popular lines include Dusen Dusen, OMY, Blume, Tache Pistachio Milk, Pantone, Noshinku Sanitizers, Soap So Co., which is made in Alberta and NIMO, a Vancouver-based brand, just to name a few.”

“The Pantone Lifestyle collection from Denmark is a special line for us. Not only do we have the largest selection, but we are also the official Canadian distributor. This incredible opportunity comes through our partnership with Copenhagen Design, a Denmark-based company that designs the curated collection. Known for collaborating with iconic brands like Porsche, The Oscars, Manchester United, and Jägermeister, the Pantone Lifestyle Collection brings worldclass design and customization to life.”

A core lineup of products is available all year round, and new products are continuously introduced. All products are found on The Colour Market’s online store and sold in-store. When you purchase online, you can pick up in-store or take advantage of free delivery service within Vancouver, Richmond, and Coquitlam.

We listen and actively ask customers what they are interested in seeing, and nine out of ten times, we end up carrying it.

While the store sees many local customers who either work or live in the area, because it’s a flagship location, it’s a destination for many shoppers. In addition, they receive online orders from across Canada and the United States.

What makes The Colour Market unique?

Cherry comments, “Colours have the power to evoke emotions, and when customers choose an item, it’s either a shade that feels familiar and comforting or one that gently encourages them to step beyond their comfort zone in subtle ways.”

She leads the store while also serving as the general manager for both the retail and distribution divisions. Cherry oversees seven locations—The Colour Market and six Hue & Hammer stores (previously Benjamin Moore Vancouver). Additionally, she represents Pantone Lifestyle across Canada for her organization.

She shares, “With a background in interior design, it’s rewarding to be in the shop, connecting with customers and sharing a mutual appreciation for colour.”

Cherry and her colleagues invite you to explore The Colour Market. "Our team brings the same warmth and vibrancy as the store itself, creating a welcoming and engaging customer experience."
