Centrally situated on Vancouver’s Westside, Amica Arbutus Manor has offered exceptional senior living for over 50 years. In 1974, the first residents were welcomed to this vibrant community. With an emphasis on comfort and connection, it’s no wonder Amica Arbutus Manor is a beloved residence for so many.

Thomas, an Amica Arbutus Manor resident, shares: "We have found a security in our wellness, comfort in the quality of the environment and a freedom of independent living.”

The community offers 50 independent suites and 64 assisted living suites, all designed to balance autonomy and support. The independent assisted living suites allow for personal furnishings, while the respite suites come fully furnished for short-term stays.

New residents often find they have more free time at their disposal.

Housekeeping staff take care of vacuuming, mopping, and bed-making. Laundromats are located on each floor for residents’ use. With daily responsibilities lifted, there’s more time to explore the many opportunities available.

The tranquil courtyard features a central garden and a beloved duck pond, bringing nature close to home. Each year, ducklings hatch in the courtyard, delighting residents— one particularly memorable year, three families of ducklings took up residence.

There is something for everyone at the residence, including creative writing and art classes, Amica Jeopardy and entertainment. Residents enjoy two daily movies in the welldesigned theatre, all chosen by a resident-led movie council. Lawn darts, summer lawn bowling, fitness classes, and chair yoga are a sampling of activities for those seeking an active lifestyle.

Jorg and his wife recently moved into Amica Arbutus Manor. Jorg shares, “The life enrichment team is outstanding with all the activities they plan for us; there’s no time to get bored, and it is totally up to you how active you like to be.”

Monique moved into the residence three years ago. She adds, “Both loners and social butterflies can be accommodated. If determined, you can be busy from breakfast to the evening movie. On the other hand, if you wish not to participate and keep your own counsel, your decision will be respected.”

Weekly trips are planned to a variety of destinations, including burgers at the beach, swimming, Stanley Park, Steveston, Park Royal, and the much-loved Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Residents appreciate the weekly Thursday shuttle to Kerrisdale, providing a chance to run errands and visit local cafés.

Exceptional dining is one of the highlights at Amica Arbutus Manor.

Chef Robert, Director of Culinary Services, has dedicated 34 years to enriching the community with his culinary creations. His passion for providing delicious, nutritious meals is evident in every dish he and his team make from scratch—including soups, sauces, and entrees prepared without even a bouillon cube.

Over 112 entrees, 56 soups, and 56 desserts are offered monthly, including chef’s daily specials and an à la carte menu featuring residents’ favourites. Special occasion menus and themed dinners are also featured, and unique dietary needs and preferences are always accommodated.

The daily breakfast buffet and a flexible dining experience allow residents to savour high-quality meals tailored to their preferences. The resident food council plays an active role in contributing ideas for menu development. Guests are encouraged to join their loved ones for meals, with a four-course dining experience available.
