Bannu take Inter-District Women Games trophy SPORTS REPORTER P E S H AWA R —Bannu clinched the overall trophy of the Bannu Division Inter-District Female Games concluded at Govt High School No. 1 Bannu amidst great fun and enthusiasms witnessed among players. Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Rashida Ghaznavi was the chief guest on this occasion.

Principal of the various educational institutions of both Bannu and Lakki Marwat, teaching staff, officials and large number female students’ spectators were also present during the prize distribution ceremony. Bannu recorded victories in seven different events out of total 13 while Lakki Marwat players gave a tough fight to Bannu girls by securing first position in six differ-

ent events and remained at runners-up. On the last day, the athletic event was held wherein Lakki Marwat grabbed five gold medals, five silver medals and scored 42 points by winning the overall trophy. Naila of District Lakki Marwat got the honor as fastest athlete. Naila was also declared as best athlete as she won gold medal in 100m, 200m and 400m while gold medal in Javelin throw.

Spring sports festival begins today

It was in the doubles when Nagina and Tanzeela of Bannu defeated Palwasha and Malaika and won the trophy. Earlier, the concluding ceremony was started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Sidra, followed by National Anthem, Teams March Past, PT and Gymnastic show. Rashida Gaznavi gave away trophies, certificates and cash prizes. It is worth mentioning here that the winners of all 13 Games given Rs. 15000 and runners-up got Rs. 10000.

Kohat lift Boys KP Under-23 Games trophy

M U LTA N — N C B A & E Multan spring sports festival 2016 under the supervision of city district sports department will begin from Friday. According to district sports officer Jameel Kamran, the archery boys and badminton competitions would be started from March 11 on 3pm and 5pm respectively. Handball boys competitions would be started from March 12 table tennis, badminton, arm wrestling and girls archery competitions would also be held on same day. The final competitions would be played on March 13th. DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal would distribute the prizes and trophies among the players as chief guest at concluding ceremony. —APP

Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Higher Education, was the chief guest on this occasion. National weightlifting scheduled for March 28-29

ISLAMABAD—The 61st Senior Men’s National Weightlifting Championships will be held at the Punjab University Grounds Weightlifting Centre, Lahore, on March 28-29. According to Muhammad Rashed Malik Vice President, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF), the championship will be held according to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) rules. “All affiliated units of PWLF have been invited to participate in this mega event,” he said. Jansher urges PSF to invest in talent hunt programmes ISLAMABAD—Squash Legend Jansher Khan on World No. 1 for over 10 years, said these types of Thursday urged the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) to invest in the talent hunt programmes of players instead of holding big prize money tournaments. According to a report published in a national daily, PSF senior vice president Air Vice Marshal (R) Syed Razi Nawab had said that the Egyptians players will face Pakistanis in the $40,000 prize money event in April in Karachi. He said PSF had hired the services of Salman Butt, who was also behind Pakistan Super League (PSL), to help it generate Rs 20 million funds to conduct the high-prize PSA events. Talking to APP, Jansher, who had won the World Open a record eight times, and the British Open six times, said the PSF should organize talent hunt programmes instead of generating money for tournaments. “Currently there is no player that can match the likes of Jahangir Khan, Qamar Zaman or me,” he said. Jansher, who had won a total of 99 professional titles, said Peshawar is the hub of squash talent and PSF should hold under 12 and 16 talent hunt programs there to dig out the talented youth. “Besides Peshawar, talent hunt programs should also be held in other major cities of Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad,” he said adding then PSF should hold under 12 and 16 tournaments to polish the players and groom them for international level.
