Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?I I am a qualified finance professional and prior to being co-owner of Secret Shoppers, I was working for a multinational pharmaceutical organisation, striving to make my way up the corporate ladder. Starting a business in luxury fashion and lifestyle was an unexplored territory for me. The idea of Secret Shoppers actually started as a personal interest and due to the growth in the industry, soon turned into a successful business venture. What was your “aha!” moment? When I realised that success lies beyond your comfort zone. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? I always had a very clear vision of what I wanted and that was being my own boss. Finance was my first choice because it’s not just about numbers, it helps you become an organised person in many ways but fashion gives you an unparalleled creative focus. When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? I tend to count on my blessings as opposed to the shortfalls and this helps me push through the challenges and never feel dejected. I believe that a positive mindset is everything.
3. Meals at home with lots of family and friends. What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list? There are lots of life experiences and travelling hotspots on my bucket list but a custom made Elie Saab gown is something I want to tick off soon. What does nobody tell you about being the boss? That you bear the responsibility of everyone’s mistakes. Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? Anna Wintour is a real sassy boss lady. I am fascinated by her way of leading the magazine business.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? After my teens, I have spent most of my time with my aunt in the UK and she taught me a mantra for being successful; that is “wear your smile when dealing with people and you will never struggle to impress”. I live by it. 3 things you cherish the most 1. Every second that I spend with my son Azaan, especially dressing him up in best toddler outfits possible! 2. Playing squash and gym sessions with my husband, Ahmed. He always encourages me to push through my limitations.
Describe a day in your life The moment I open my eyes in the morning, it’s all systems go! My days revolves around my work, entertaining my 18-month-old son, doing household chores as well as being on the phone at the same time to troubleshoot the daily business issues with the help of my team. To manage all this in a day’s work, I have to hop from one thing to another. Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Someone who is confident, charming, fierce and an inspiration for others.
What did you learn from your biggest failure? Always diversify your investments; this includes your time and money. Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? I would love to share a table with Michelle Obama. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? Never be afraid of challenges to achieve your goals, every challenge is an opportunity for you to shine and prove yourself.
