While the newly-elected Master Councilor is the only one qualified to apply for and receive the Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award, he cannot do it alone. It takes the combined efforts of the entire Chapter. The MC must provide the leadership to inspire his fellow DeMolays toward a well-rounded program.

Centennial egacy Pages HLere 100 30

In honor of the 100th anniversary of DeMolay International, the Pennsylvania DeMolay Yearbook has created a new style of page for our 2019 edition: the Legacy Page. DeMolay Chapters, Lodges, and individuals have submitted these next twenty-five pages as a tribute to some of the countless number of people who have helped make Pennsylvania DeMolay and its Chapters successful. They include pictures and short biographies of those being honored with these pages. We hope this shines a light on those perhaps rarely discussed outside of the sponsoring Chapter, but who deserve special recognition from all of Pennsylvania DeMolay.

Ralph C. Minehart “Uncle” Ralph C. Minehart served as Executive Officer from 1923-1933 and was the key figure in bringing DeMolay to Pennsylvania. After being so impressed upon seeing a degree ceremony in New Jersey in 1922, Minehart made it a goal to institute Chapters across Pennsylvania. On December 1, 1922, Minehart recommended in an address to a group of Pittsburgh Knights Templar that they sponsor the Order of DeMolay. This motion was unanimously approved. On February 12, 1923, 1,099 members were initiated into the newly-formed Templar Chapter. During his tenure, Pennsylvania DeMolay saw membership as high as 12,000 young men. His generosity, warmheartedness, and the extreme amount of effort he put into the forming of Pennsylvania DeMolay made him beloved by the members of Pennsylvania DeMolay during his tenure as Executive Officer. In 2014, as a part of Pennsylvania DeMolay’s Honor & Heritage campaign, a rededication ceremony was held at Minehart’s grave in Pittsburgh.

The Guild of the Leather Apron, also known as the Advisor of the Year Award, is a singular recognition to a DeMolay Advisor who, in the past year, has made outstanding contributions to the growth and success of the Order of DeMolay, especially within a local Chapter. The honor may be conferred upon any DeMolay Advisor, regardless of Masonic affiliation.

Guild

of the

Leather Apron Year

“Dad” William G. Holtzer was recognized with the Guild of the Leather Apron at Convention 2018 in Gettysburg. He had served as Chapter Advisor for Westmoreland Chapter for six years, and continues to be very active with the Chapter. His service to the Chapter has been recognized with the DeMolay International Medal of Appreciation, Cross of Honor, and the Honorary Legion of Honor. He has served as Assistant Director of Ritual for Pennsylvania DeMolay since 2017. “Dad” Holtzer is a member of Tall Cedars, Scottish Rite, and Westmoreland Lodge No. 518, F. & A.M. He is an Account Executive for George Delallo Company. Upon receiving the GLA, all expected him to respond with his contagious, “Oh, my!” but, for once, this outstanding Advisor was quiet.

What

is

DeMolay? 160

PaDeMolay.org

DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for young men aged 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.

Seven Precepts of DeMolay Filial Love, Reverence for Sacred Things, Courtesy, Comradeship, Fidelity, Cleanness, and Patriotism

DeMolay members uphold high standards and principles. When joining DeMolay you will be asked to take vows and promises (called “obligations”) to live by these principles.

You’ll Promise:

To strive to be a better son. To be faithful to confidences and trusts placed in you. To live a clean and moral life. To love and serve God according to the teachings of your family’s faith tradition. To be a loyal and patriotic citizen, and to defend the interests of your country. To remember the example of Jacques DeMolay, and strive to be faithful and trustworthy in all your commitments. To be loyal and supportive to other DeMolay members. To honor and respect all women. To be tolerant and understanding in your opinions of others.
