DEER ISLE ARCHIPELAGIC EXCURSION

Penobscot Bay is considered by many to be the heart of the Maine coast. Several of Maine’s biggest industries have a long history in this region, including fishing, ship building, and granite quarrying. In addition to its rich economic history, Penobscot Bay is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the east coast. From adventurous paddling on the open waters around the far flung islands to quiet exploration of the channels and coves amongst the dense inner islands, this region contains a superb variety of sea kayaking opportunities. Paddling this area can take several days, depending on how many tempting spots you succumb to along the way: swimming in fresh water quarries on Green Island; searching for feral sheep on the grassy slopes of Russ Island; walking along the Caribbean like beach of Sand Island. With dozens of options for adventurous exploration the paddling can be endless! This trip provides the explorer with scenic landscapes and a variety of wildlife.
