Those competing in this year’s Great North Run will have been training for this event for some time. But even if you weren’t lucky enough to have secured a place in the world’s largest halfmarathon, you’ll still be able to soak up the atmosphere of the region’s biggest sporting event. Whether you choose to line the streets of Newcastle, or cheer runners over the line on the Sunderland coast, you’ll be guaranteed a great day out.
Durham’s annual celebration of all things book will once again be taking place this October when a host of household names will take over the city with literary discussions and interactive events. From politics to poetry, and fiction to feminism, there’s something for everyone at this year’s festival.
