NATIONAL SHOWCASE
DIARY RUTH FLYNN (IRELAND) “What we cannot speak about we must pass over in silence.” Ludwig Wittgenstein Language plays an important role in society; we all communicate and express our thoughts through language, all reality is language and without language there is no reality. Diary is an exploration of the mind and human behaviour. This piece looks at the way in which language is unique to each individual, and how each person deals with life’s events – both happy and sad – through the language they use. This performance undermines the viewer’s perception by bringing private thoughts into the public space. Ruth Flynn is a visual artist working in performance, video and sound. Her work is an insight into the mind, investigation of human behaviour and the senses through research into philosophy, psychology and literature. Ruth is currently studying for a practice based research Masters at the Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland.
