Invaluable Experiences
Student Investment Fund
The Eberhardt Student Investment Fund (SIF) is a rare opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in the U.S. stock market by managing an investment portfolio currently worth nearly $4 million. Since its inception in 2007, the program has flourished into the third-largest student-run fund in the western United States and has regularly outperformed both the Russell Midcap and Standard & Poor’s 500 benchmarks. Students enrolled in the class can tour financial institutions and speak with investment industry professionals about their career paths.
A Rare Opportunity To Manage Bonds
Starting in 2022, the Eberhardt School of Business is offering an additional student investment opportunity. The Dreyfuss Family Fixed Income Fund, valued at $2 million, is a student-run investment fund focused on bonds including U.S. Treasury bonds, U.S. corporate bonds, emerging market bonds, high-yield bonds and more. Students research where to invest the fund’s money and are accountable to a board consisting of the dean and four investment professionals.
Only 2% of business schools operate a student investment fund, and the Eberhardt School of Business is one of the only business schools in the country to offer students the opportunity to manage both a stock and bond market fund as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Visit To The Center Of World Finance
A vital part of the Student Investment Fund experience is the annual visit to New York City, where Pacific students visit Wall Street investment banking firms and tour the financial district.
Students also network with Pacific alumni, current finance professionals eager to share their years of experience with younger Pacificans.
The trip is financed by the Dreyfuss Wall Street Fellows endowment, established in 2016 by alumnus and Regent Evan Dreyfuss ’86.
My favorite hands-on learning opportunity at Pacific is definitely the Student Investment Fund. It’s a $4 million student-run investment fund. As a student, you get access to the Bloomberg terminals that the school pays for. It’s quite an amazing tool, especially if you’re interested in going into the financial field, because that’s what big banks use to gather their information. Only 2% of business schools globally offer the same learning opportunity. It will set you apart when you’re graduating or entering the job market. It builds up your public speaking skills and your confidence.
