Dental Specialists Society of BC Series

The DSSBC Series exists to provide a venue and opportunity for interdisciplinary continuing dental education and fellowship for the Certified Dental Specialists of British Columbia. Dr. Raymond Grewal DDS, FRCD(C) will be the moderator for these sessions. (Morning presentations see page 65)

Afternoon Presentations Todd Moore earned his BSc (Hons) in biochemistry and MSc in dental science from the University of British Columbia; his DDS degree from the University of Western Ontario and Cert. Ortho. from the Eastman Dental Center, Roc., NY. Todd works at the Pediatric Dental Group in Vancouver and Richmond and teaches at the graduate orthodontic program at UBC.

Periodontal Regeneration: Why Not Save Teeth?

Michelle M. Lee received her dental degree from McGill University (2002) and her GPR certificates from the University of Washington. Following her hospital training, Dr. Lee completed the Graduate Periodontics program at University of Washington and returned to Vancouver in 2007 to practice full-time with her father, Dr. Kenneth Lee. Dr. Lee also holds faculty appointments at University of Washington and UBC.

Removable Orthodontic Appliance Treatment in the Early Mixed Dentition

With localized moderate to severe periodontal defects, traditional osseous pocket reduction surgery or extraction may be considered extreme treatment options. Periodontal regeneration on the other hand, can be used to regain lost attachment and improve the long-term prognosis of a tooth. ++ CE credits will not be awarded by the Alberta Dental Association and College for this course.

Clinical Pearls in Pediatric Dentistry

Reza Nouri is a certified specialist in pediatric dentistry, and is staff surgeon at BCCH. He holds Fellowships in College of Dental Surgeons of BC, Royal College of Dentists of Canada, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and American College of Dentists. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and is also a contributing consultant for Oral Health Journal.

Afternoon Presentations Laser and Cosmetic Dentistry

Les Rykiss graduated from University of Manitoba with DMD degree in 1990. Graduate and mentor at Nash Institute, Fellowship in the International Academy for Dento-Facial Esthetics, Associate Fellowship from WCLI. He has lectured and written several articles on Cosmetic Dentistry, Hard and Soft tissue laser use, Digital and Restorative Dentistry. Member of ASDA, MDA, CDA, CAED, and past president Alpha Omega.

This lecture will highlight the use of the Waterlase iPlus in cosmetic dentistry and walk through the steps from diagnosis to final bonding to achieve harmony and balanced smile aesthetics in our cosmetic cases.
