About the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University
from 2023 LL Journal
Since its founding in 1976, the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University has provided an excellent legal education to students who have a passion for the law. We believe that a great legal education must teach more than statutes, regulations, and case law. Students must also gain concrete practice skills and begin to learn the strategies and tactics of representation.
As legal practice becomes ever more specialized, ever more complex and ever more competitive, our distinctive approach is more important than ever. We continue to build on our historic strength of training practice-ready lawyers through our field placement programs and nationally recognized clinics, including our Energy and Climate Center, Investor Rights Clinic, Food and Farm Business Law Clinic, Land Use Law Center, Criminal Justice Center, and Women’s Justice Center.

Our Environmental Law Program has long been ranked among the world’s leading university programs, with a current #1 ranking by U.S. News & World Report, and we have earned a preeminent reputation in Public Interest Law, Criminal Law, and in programs such as Trial Advocacy. Students enjoy significant flexibility and breadth – in addition to the traditional JD, Haub Law offers an accelerated two and a half year JD, a Flex JD scheduling option, Advanced Certificates and other Paths to Practice, eight joint degrees, and Master’s of Law degree options.
We are proud that the strength of our curriculum is enhanced by our diverse community. This year’s entering class includes 273 new JD students, including 64 students in our Part-time Flex Division. These students come from 27 states and 138 different colleges and universities. 31% are coming directly from college, 25 have one or more graduate degrees already and 27% are students of diversity. Each student brings unique perspectives and ideas to our classrooms and programs. We are also pleased to have 10 exchange students from our partner universities in France, Germany, Spain and Brazil and 27 LLM students from 14 different countries.
Haub Law’s unique "Path to Practice" curriculum, our superb location in the heart of the nation's most dynamic legal marketplace, our commitment to providing the best possible education at an exceptional value to students, and our nationally recognized centers of excellence set Haub Law apart. As we look toward the future, we anticipate even greater success in the years ahead. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HAUB LAW, VISIT http://law.pace.edu.

Dear friends,
Welcome to the 28th annual Law Leadership Awards Celebration at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law.
Our law school community comes together at the Leadership Awards Celebration each year to salute individuals who exemplify leadership and excellence in the practice of law. We also honor Haub Law’s role as an important part of the legal community in Westchester and across the New York metropolitan area. Since our founding in 1976, we have educated nearly 9,000 attorneys, who today hold leadership roles in the judiciary, in private practice, in public interest law, and in corporate America.
Tonight, I am honored to join you to celebrate so many accomplished alumni. The impressive list includes Distinguished Service Award winners Susan S. Brown ’87 and Anna Marciano Romanella ’00, Impact Award winner John T. O’Connor ’86, and the four outstanding young alumni receiving our Rising Star Award, Jonathan Campozano ’17, Hana Heineken ’10, Najia S. Khalid ’09, and Shamik N. Trivedi ’08. Each one is accomplished, respected, and committed to Haub Law and our students. You’ll hear more about them during today’s program.
I also want to express my deep appreciation to tonight’s co-chairs, Mayo Bartlett ’92 and John C. Lettera ’99, for their generosity and dedication to the law school.
Indeed, I am continually impressed by the impressive commitment, creativity, and ambition of our remarkable Haub Law and Pace University communities. Even as the world presents so many challenges, we continue to stand up for those who need us. Our students continue to thrive. Our clinics continue to serve our communities. Our friends and donors continue to generously support Haub Law and Pace. And Haub Law remains the No. 1 Environmental Law program in the country, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Our success is thanks to you. Thank you for joining us today to celebrate our honorees, and thank you for your ongoing support for the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, for Pace University, and for our students.
Sincerely,
Marvin Krislov

Dear Friends of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law,
Thank you for joining us today to celebrate a landmark in the history of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University: the 28th annual Law Leadership Celebration.
We are delighted that for more than a quarter century, this event has brought together the leaders in the New York legal community to support the Law School, while at the same time recognizing those who have made extraordinary contributions to the legal profession and to Haub Law.
The Law Leadership dinner is the signature fundraiser for Haub Law. Through sponsorships and this journal, funds are raised to help underwrite the Law School’s outstanding academic programs, faculty and students.
This annual celebration provides the setting for the presentation of the Distinguished Service Award, which honors individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the legal community, the Law School, or the practice of law. Additionally, the Haub Impact Award, which was given for the first-time last year, recognizes a person who has gone above and beyond to impact students, faculty, and the entire law school community.
This year we are honoring for their distinguished service Susan S. Brown ’87, Co-Founder, Of Counsel, Glassman & Brown, LLP and Anna Marciano Romanella ’00, Vice President, Sustainability Zone North America Nestle, General Counsel & Head of Sustainability Nespresso USA. The recipient of our Impact Award is John T. O'Connor ’86, Partner, Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP.
I would like to offer a special thanks to our Law Leadership event co-chairs, Mayo Bartlett, ’92, and John C. Lettera, ’99. Mayo is Principal Attorney with the Law Offices of Mayo Bartlett, PLLC, a 2022 Distinguished Service Award winner and a member of the Law School’s Board of Visitors. John is Founder & CEO of RealFi Financial, LLC, an adjunct professor, recipient of the 2022 Haub Impact Award, and a member of the Law School’s Board of Visitors.
In addition, we are celebrating four outstanding alumni with the annual Rising Star Award in recognition their impact in the field of law during the first fifteen years of their careers.
This year’s Rising Star recipients are: Jonathan Campozano ’17, Staff Attorney, Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, Hana Heineken ’10, Senior Attorney, Climate and Energy Program, Center for International Environmental Law, Najia S. Khalid ’09, Partner, Wiggin and Dana LLP, and Shamik N. Trivedi ’08, Special Counsel, Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel.
This year has been a special time for Haub Law, as we emerge from the depths of the COVID pandemic. We have created new programs, partnerships, events, and opportunities for our students, providing them with an even richer learning experience.
The Law School has become, once again, the epicenter for important programs, public forums, and policy debates in the region, in partnership with public officials, community organizations, alumni and law leaders who share our vision and how this benefits our students.
This year we also saw our Environmental Law program for the second time in a row garner a U.S. News & World Report ranking of No. 1 in the nation, the third top rating in the past 4 years. In addition, Haub Law continues to receive high rankings in Trial Advocacy, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and its Flex JD program. We have also built a reputation as a top law school for women, ranking No. 11 in the nation for female enrollment, according to the 2022 Women in Law School Report from Enjuris, and No. 4 in Greatest Resources for Women, according to The Princeton Review.
I would like to thank the many members of the Westchester County legal and business community who have come together to support the Law School and our students. Your support today and throughout the year is crucial to our continued success as we pursue our mission: to provide students with the high-quality education and personal attention they need to become outstanding attorneys in Westchester County, New York City and across the country.
On behalf of my colleagues and our students, please accept our sincerest thanks for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Horace E. Anderson Jr.
