N OT E F R O M /A R AV I N D Dear Reader, Welcome to the second edition of our Digest this year. In this edition, we highlight the importance of community involvement. Community involvement really is the power to bring positive, measurable change to both our communities in which we operate and to our business and provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Starting with Employee Spotlights, we gain a bit of background on two of our Long Beach staff members. We also highlight total number of our employees involved in Non-profit Organizations and provide a spotlight on the contribution of two of our employees involved in their respective communities. Our project highlights in this edition include an arc flash study for a Water District and engineering services for the Evergreen Health Medical Center Progressive Care Unit that incorporates a prefabricated modular wall system to improve space flexibility and decrease long-term construction costs. This edition wraps up with our recommendation on two of the must-read books, links to two P2S lessons videos on Internal/External Client Communication and Errors & Omissions, and a review of our Salesforce guidelines. I hope you enjoy this issue and continue to stay healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Aravind

SPEED ROUND Hometown: Westminster, CA. Favorite Food: French Toast Dream Car: Rolls Royce Phantom Favorite Band/Singer: So hard to choose! I listen to so many genres, I feel like I have a favorite in each. During quarantine, I became obsessed with Blackpink.

P2S DIGEST / Spring 2021

6

Where did you grow up? I grew up in the Inland Empire- Corona then Lake Elsinore before moving back to OC. What was your family like? My family is crazy fun- emphasis on the crazy. We like to celebrate every occasion/holiday/event. If you found a dollar on the street, we would throw a party to celebrate. What’s something that surprises people most about you? I am an outgoing person, and I can easily make conversation with people, but I don’t like talking on the phone unless it’s with my family or friends. For instance, if I can’t place an order or make a reservation with a restaurant online and I’d have to call them instead, I’d pick another place to eat. What are some of your favorite hobbies? I don’t really have any hobbies… I’ve been doing Pilates but I wouldn’t call that a hobby? I just started doing it to lose my quarantine weight. LOL. Honestly, when I just want to distract my mind from everything, I clean. I am a clean freak so it’s a great stress reliever for me.

How do you find your work/life balance? I always try to make the best out of every weekend so I can completely forget about work momentarily and it gives me something to look forward to every week. Especially during quarantine, while we’re working from home, I also found it extremely important to set boundaries on when is considered “work time” and “free time”. What do you hope to contribute to P2S? Being that I’m still just starting off my career, I hope I’m bringing a fresh mind that is eager to learn and grow with the company.

SPEED ROUND Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA Favorite Food: This may offend some, but I love meat!...and eat a lot of it. Beyond that, I’m a sucker for BJ’s chocolate chip Pizookies. Dream Car: Subaru WRX STI or something like the cars in the older fast and furious movies. I think small custom-built cars are awesome. Favorite Band/Singer: Hard choice between genres and time periods. I really like a lot of artists! A few of my all-time favorites that come to mind first are Rise Against, Panic at the Disco, All American Rejects, Eminem, Illenium, Gryffin, and Florida Georgia Line.

8

Where did you grow up? Born and raised in Huntington Beach! What was your family like? Growing up with a twin brother and my parents usually being hard at work, we got into plenty of trouble! My dad was hardworking and disciplined and often taught us by example. My mother on the other hand, was soft, loving, and loved to cook! When it comes down to it, my brother and I are total Grandma’s boys because often times she was the one that would help us with school and discipline us when needed. What’s something that surprises people most about you? Although I’m very conversational now, I’m naturally shy and get awkward easily. I was VERY shy as a kid and I’ve been working on my communication and networking skills for a long time.

What are some of your favorite hobbies? I love hard training and extreme sports. I compete in Jiu Jitsu, have a passion for strength training, love to surf, free-dive, and dirt bike on the weekends (depending on the season), and really enjoy adventuring of all sorts. Beyond my sport hobbies, I currently like to do yoga, read, learn about leadership, real estate, and personal finance in my free time. How do you find your work/life balance? I think being invested in other hobbies helps the balance a lot. Also, making sure to take time to decompress occasionally works wonders to re-energize and re-motivate me. I usually try to plan a Saturday or Sunday about once a month to do nothing except relax, but sometimes I don’t get so lucky! Another tip would be to take more interest in your work. I think a lot of people only see this one way, but it works both ways: Not only do you take interest in the things that you like, but you also start to like the things you take interest in. I think learning to enjoy your work more will help with the balance. What do you hope to contribute to P2S? I hope to be a good leader one day. Right now, I’m focused on being the best Electrical Designer I can be and creating high quality products, but hopefully I can progress into a Project Manager, Studio Lead, or Market Segment Leader throughout my career. Beyond that, I’m a sucker for good culture in the office. I hope to be an active member in groups, create strong relationships with peers, and overall contribute to creating the best version of P2S that we can.

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District

P2S DIGEST / Spring 2021

10

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District regenerated the completely dry Lake Elsinore, and created an oasis in an arid, desert-like region of western Riverside County when it was created in 1950. To assist its mission of providing customers with safe, affordable water, P2S provided an Arc Flash Risk Assessment of electrical distribution equipment at over 158 district sites. Our team created a Short Circuit Contribution Report, an Overcurrent Protective Device Coordination Study, an Arc Flash Risk Mitigation Report and a final Arc Flash Risk Assessment Report for the district. We will be conducting (1) 3-hour Arc Flash and Shock Hazard Electrical Safety training session for district electrical and maintenance personnel. Our team collected data, verified equipment in the field, created one-line diagrams and safely obtained equipment information for: distribution equipment types and ratings, conductor sizes, conductor lengths, overcurrent protection, and transformer ratings and impedances. We created power system study models in ETAP, based on the field surveys and verified as-builts. We modeled and analyzed switching configurations for the most conservative results for Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash. We are now in the final stages of the project as we coordinate with Southern California Edison to obtain the utility’s contribution to fault current to complete our final analysis.

When EvergreenHealth decided to build out a 100,000 SF, 62-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on two floors, the administration chose a prefabricated modular wall system to improve space flexibility and decrease long-term construction costs. The progressive care unit provides a care environment like Critical Care with only the area of the room slightly smaller than critical care units.

/ 02

Evergreen Health Medical Center

Before designing the mechanical systems for the project, the engineering team evaluated the needs of the current users, potential uses, and code requirements. To bring the shelled floors up to code and online, the mechanical design called for the installation of new equipment, air handling units, in the occupied building. Throughout design, our team kept an eye open for potential future needs within the facility as well and adjusted the design to allow for future needs. The engineering team advised the owner on how the prefabricated modular system would impact mechanical and plumbing features and how to improve flexibility and long-term construction costs by allowing access to the patient wall system. We worked closely with the manufacturer to recommend the placement of medical gases piping in the modular walls; how to build the walls around existing and new mechanical and plumbing systems; and how to coordinate with the dialysis box installation.
