HONEY SHINE
from OYC Miami Overview
by OYCmiami
Honey shine, a program of OYC Miami, is an all-girls mentoring and empowerment program for girls ages 5-18 founded by Tracy Wilson Mourning in 2002.

The program aims to expose girls from underserved communities to healthy lifestyles and encourages the balancing of mind, body and soul.
Program services include afterschool programming, “Aspire to Shine” empowerment workshops, and Camp Honey Shine during the summer.
Honey Shine is committed to bridging academic, social, emotional, and health gaps through interactive, academic and enrichment services.

Mentoring - Mentors share their personal and professional experience with the Honey Bugs and help guide them to a healthy and happy future. Through the expert contributions of mentors, girls work on personal development goals, skills and behaviors they want to learn.

Sisterhood - Each workshop demonstrates the commonality that exists between all of us. Activities focus on fostering positive relationships, bonding, building trust and honoring each other.
Journaling - Honey Shine provides a safe space for self-expression. Honey Bugs end program sessions by writing out their thoughts and ideas on different chosen topics as well as the opportunity to write freely and openly about areas of self-interest. It is important that girls understand how to use their voice.
Empowerment - The program encourages Honey Bugs to break through stereotypes and helps them visualize their place in society as strong leaders.
Inspiration - Honey Shine mentors provide guidance and nurturing experiences to Honey Bugs ages 5 to 25. Honey Shine offers a safe haven for young women throughout our community, giving them the support, guidance, and encouragement. Our mentors share wisdom and experiences as a tool to inspire and guide Honey Bugs to achieve their full potential and accomplish their goals.
