 Prospectus

My academic level has increased rapidly after these two weeks... I have found the most wonderful international friends. LEA, 22, SLOVAKIA

Hello ‘

Welcome to Oxbridge Future Leaders We are a leading
summer school for international students aged 16-23.

About us Our mission is to provide talented young people from across the world with the leadership skills they need to succeed in life.
Oxbridge Future Leaders is an exceptional summer school for students passionate about the social sciences and humanities. Set in the historic surroundings of the city of Oxford, where scholars have walked for hundreds of years, our summer programme will fully immerse you in the traditions of academic excellence. Our tutors are of the highest calibre, meaning that you will get one-on-one contact with those conducting cutting-edge research in their fields. However, you’re not just here to work; by day, learn from expert Oxford and Cambridge-educated tutors in bespoke one-on-one tutorials, but by evening, enjoy student pastimes such as punting, formal dinners, sports, cinema trips and parties. Oxbridge Future Leaders will ensure that you “work hard, play hard”; it’s our ethos that all students on the course will be constantly sharing their beliefs and ideas with each other whilst unwinding at the end of a hard days’ work well done.

Academic We offer an unparalleled educational experience, with a bespoke mixture of lectures, seminars, and one-on-one tuition. In-keeping with our ethos that all subjects interlink, we offer the chance for students to study both a major and a minor subject whilst they are with us, meaning that you could study combinations such as Medicine and Philosophy, International Relations and Refugee Studies, or even English Literature and Business. A typical week as an OFL student would include four hours of Major Subject Seminars in small groups, as well as a one-on-one tutorial with your tutor at the end of the week. Your discussionbased Minor Subject Seminar will take place once a week. For those who want to broaden their horizons even further, the Tutor Lecture Series will be your chance to hear about some of the most interesting topics of research currently taking place in the city; last year’s series included increasing diversity in international relations as well as the gender politics of taking selfies. As if that wasn’t enough, the academic component of the course also includes talks on the Leadership Skills and qualities that will set you apart from others in the future. You will be required to do some pre-course reading before you arrive, and will be put in contact with your tutor in advance to ensure that they are able to answer any questions you may have. This reading will be PDF-based to avoid the need for you to buy and transport physical textbooks before the course.

Social

A summer school is about so much more than academia; it’s also the people you meet and the new experiences you encounter. Whilst you are in Oxford, we want to make sure you’re able to take part in some true student pastimes. Enjoy the chance to go punting down the River Cherwell, to explore the city with your new-found friends, and to enjoy the end-of-week banquet of ‘Formal Hall’, followed by the party that students call a ‘bop’ to celebrate the end of your week. You will live with fellow students and staff in newly-refurbished ensuite bedrooms in the heart of Lady Margaret Hall. Groups eat every night in the best restaurants around the city, hand picked by the pastoral staff, who (as Oxford alumni) have encyclopaedic knowledge of our surroundings; they’re always there to recommend a great place to get lunch, or an activity that you can do if you want to explore the city for an afternoon. Evening dinners are a great chance to share the events of the day with each other and a time to unwind.

Cultural Whilst you’re with us we want you to be able to access some of the best sights the UK has to offer. Experience the traditions and history of venues such as the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Windsor Castle, Bletchley Park (made famous by The Imitation Game) and Blenheim Palace. Our close proximity to these incredible places means that day trips leave as much time as possible for you to enjoy being on site with fellow students. However, we won’t have to travel far to experience cultural wonders. Oxford is steeped in cultural history; sites such as Christ Church College, New College and the Bodleian Libraries have all been used in the filming for Harry Potter, whilst the Ashmolean (the world’s first university museum) is just down the road from Lady Margaret Hall. The Bodleian Library- home to a copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio as well as the Gutenberg Bible, a first draft of Frankenstein and a handdrawn map of Narnia- has immense treasures which you will be able to explore on private walking tours. We hope that you are able to experience as much as possible of Oxford during your course, but with over 1000 years history on offer, it’s bursting at the seams with things to do and see. Our staff will always be here to help you make the most of your time in the city, and we hope you leave us only wanting to come back and see more.
