1.0 DEFINITION The virus that causes COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets (such as sneezes or coughs) are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces.

Cleaning helps to remove any possible bacteria / viruses or significantly reduce their load on contaminated surfaces.

The disinfectant concentration and contact time are also critical for effective surface disinfection. Therefore, a chemical disinfectant, such as chlorine or alcohol, should be applied to kill any micro-organisms.

Purpose The purpose of this document is to outline the procedure to be followed by the Supporting Team (Cleaners and associated staff employed for hygiene and sanitary job related duties) for the cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces of a school in the context of COVID-19.
