Head Teacher’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome “Home”, at Ainsfield School.

It is important to make the right choice for your child. This brochure has been written to provide you with the necessary information and to help you understand what we have to offer.

At Ainsfield School we provide a happy, caring and safe environment for your child. We work hard to ensure that your child’s experience of school is a positive one and which encourages a love for learning and self-discipline from the start.

Children in our school come from many different cultural backgrounds, they have different religions and they speak many different languages. We celebrate and value this diversity.

We encourage the children to be proud of their own culture, religion and language and to show respect for those of others.

The curriculum in the school is well planned with a priority given to developing high standards of literacy and numeracy, both as discrete subjects and their application within the broad range of curriculum at our school.

At Ainsfield School, we also focus on developing all children’s social, emotional, mental and physical well-being through providing a range of engaging learning programmes and a large number of after school private classes.

A positive partnership with parents is vital in achieving our aims. Home and school must work together and we need your support and co-operation. In return, we hope you will find the school welcoming, willing to listen and willing to respond to your questions, concerns or suggestions.

INTRODUCTION AINSFIELD is committed to provide your child with quality, caring childcare in an excellent learning environment. The staff is constantly striving to make your child’s formal learning experience both fun and positive. In order to do so we need the support and cooperation of all parents.

Admission Criteria 1. Ainsfield School reserves the right to admit a child during the scholar year.

2. Pupils with elder siblings who attend the school already will have special consideration for the following school year.

3. Parents selected for admission will be contacted by phone or email to be confirmed if they have been offered a place.

4. The school expects all factual information to be correct and cannot accept fictitious address or addresses belonging to grandparents or other relatives.

5. A non-refundable deposit is required to make an application for admission.

6. If the number of children seeking admission at the beginning of the year, or during the year, exceeds the number of places available, then priority will be given in accordance with the criteria observed by Ainsfield School.

Admissions Throughout The Year Children are admitted at any time during the school year to classes where there are vacancies. By default, the deadline for application is usually by the end of the month of April.

Caring and Equal Environment 1. Our actions are guided by LOVE, RESPECT, CARE, INTEGRITY and TRUST, towards the children Care and patience are our teachers’ practice for the best interests of the pupils/students.

2. We aim to create an environment in which children feel happy, secure and confident and in which children are able to learn how to read and write, how to discover, how to play together and how to make things. Our expectation is that each child should develop a positive self-image.

3. Respectfulness - Teachers uphold human dignity and promote equality and emotional and cognitive development.

status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, race and ethnicity.

Safety, Health and Security 5. We are aware of the need for good security and the school has installed security systems and CCTV on the entrance doors near the classrooms and on all other locations around the school site. This allows the doors to be locked shut during the school day and additionally allows us to monitor the whole site from the Director’s office.

6. The school has a number of staff who are qualified First Aiders. All staff will do their best to ensure that children are kept safe and well in school.

7. The School Attendants deal with minor accidents and illnesses during the school day with the lunchtime supervisors being particularly responsible at lunchtimes. In case of injury, we provide First Aid care to the child, and parents are contacted by telephone.

8. Medical checks are carried out during the year. Dental and eye checks are carried out for all groups.

9. The school does not give medication to children, however parents are allowed to come and administer medication to their children at lunch time if necessary.

10. The health and safety of all children and adults on the school site is extremely important and the following items are intended to assist in this: a. Only stud earrings and small items of jewellery with religious significance should be worn in school. They need to be covered or removed during P.E. The school will not be responsible in cases of such losses. b. It is very important that you make sure the school has your telephone number and that you inform us immediately of any changes to your home, work or emergency numbers. c. Children are supervised in the playground at all times during the school day, but we would ask that children do not play on playground apparatus before or after school when unsupervised.

The school site is a no smoking area.

Running in halls and the reception area are strictly prohibited.

Rough games such as tackle football and pushing (bullying) will not be permitted.

6. Access to the school gate is strictly controlled and no child is to leave the school premises to play on the street.

7. All students must be quiet in line when leaving the classroom for lunch. All students must be quiet in line when going back to the classroom.

8. Both teachers and students must use stairs with precautions and quietly.

9. Students walking through the office area (Reception area) must do so in a quiet manner to minimise any disruption.

10. A pupil is under school discipline the moment (s)he leaves home for school until the time (s)he reaches home.

11. All students are expected to adopt an exemplary behaviour on their way to school and from school to home as they belong to the school family and thus are reflections of the school’s image.

12. Hence behaviour on school buses and/or in any public places must be irreproachable.

13. Students must respect the school environment and keep it tidy. Pupils should personally see to it that they do not leave litter of any kind about the school or in classrooms, staircase etc.

14. At departure time, at the last bell ring, students are forbidden to rush out of their classrooms and leave the school premises. Stampeding in the staircase is prohibited, as it may lead to accidents and injuries.

Teaching and Learning We have high standards and expectations and we help each child to achieve the best of his / her ability. Through our commitment to equal opportunities, we ensure that all children have equal access to the curriculum and that they develop a positive image of themselves.

We believe children learn best: 1. through relevant activities which stimulate interest, encourage enquiry and promote understanding.

2. through play and active involvement in mental and practical tasks.

3. when learning is practically based with opportunities to learn by “doing”, observing, solving problems and by experimenting. They also need opportunities to practise and repeat activities.

4. when they have access to a range of activities which allow them to be challenged. It is important they experience success but, at the same time, feel sufficiently confident and secure to risk mistakes.

5. when learning opportunities are set within their own experiences. It is important that we build upon the things that the children have done and learnt at home and outside of school.

solve problems, discuss and draw conclusions.

7. when they are interested and motivated. It is important that they have good self esteem and that they are praised and rewarded for their efforts.

• The methods of teaching used are varied and flexible, according to the activity planned and the needs of the children. There is a balance of whole class teaching, group work and individual work.

• Parents’ participation in their child’s education is very essential as the child learns at home first. Parents must take time to consult their correspondence book and pay visits to check on the progress of the child.

General Rules 1. Please label all personal belongings with the child’s name (clothes, bags etc.)

2. When changing personal and emergency contact information, please notify the school and the teacher, as soon as possible.

3. Be encouraging to send your child to school every single day, as this creates a healthy, stable routine that will help with your child’s learning development.

4. Do not send sugar filled snacks to school, as this may cause over activity resulting in lack of concentration and/or misbehaviour.

5. Make sure to check your child’s agenda and homework notebook every day and send them back to school every day.

6. Dress your child in clean school uniforms and comfortable shoes. Maintaining a personal hygiene is an important process in your child’s development. The wearing of school uniforms is compulsory.

7. Early pick-ups must be notified at the school from the parent, stating the person responsible for the pick-up and the time. The responsible party must provide his/her ID card for data capture.

8. Physical, verbal or emotional abuse will not be used toward any child in the preschool, nor will it be tolerated by others.

9. A child suffering from vomiting and/or diarrhoea will not be admitted to school until at least 24 hours of symptoms have ceased.

10. Children with head lice or any other contagious condition will not be admitted until the school is assured the treatment has been given.

11. Please do not send toys or expensive stationeries from home as they are difficult to share and breakage may occur.

12. Personal mobile phones or tablets are not allowed and should not be in the possession of the students. Any loss of those devices will not be the responsibility of the school.

13. Please attend all requested conferences and respond to all parental notification forms and disciplinary reports, if necessary.

Arrival 1. Pre-primary and primary children are expected as from 08:00 a.m., Nursery children are welcomed as from 08:00 from Monday through Friday. Organised activities do not start until 08:30 a.m., however we are available at 08:00 a.m. for your convenience.

2. All students need to be escorted into the building by a parent or person having permission to pick up the student.

3. Upon arrival please be sure that a staff member is fully aware that your child is arriving. These times can get chaotic when there are several children arriving all at once, so for the safety of all, please verbally communicate with the staff member on duty that your child is being signed in.

4. There is NO provision of child-minding service before 08:00 a.m.

Departure 1. Children will only be released to people authorised on the Registration Form.

There are NO exceptions. Parents must themselves add people to the pick up list throughout the year.

2. If your child is leaving school earlier, you must notify the school and the teacher in the morning. In case of emergency departure, a phone call should be placed to the office staff within reasonable time to organise the early release.

3. Upon departure please be sure that the staff member on duty is fully aware that your child is leaving.

4. There is NO Aftercare service. Departure time is fixed at 02:30 p.m. and you must be punctual to pick up your child.

Attendance 1. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends regularly as good attendance is very important. If your child is absent from school, you must let us know immediately the reason by letter, telephone or verbal message.

2. If you do not inform us then the school will make follow-ups on the attendance records with you. Our registration system will become web based shortly and this means we can monitor attendance closely.

Morning Activities 1. Many of the most important activities of the day take place during the morning hours, starting at 8:00 a.m. Children who skip some of these activities because of their late arrival often “miss out” on a favourite play period, circle time, story time, or art project.

2. Morning hours usually include planned activities, which are important in helping children develop social skills and abilities involving interaction with their peers, as well as self-discipline.

3. When children arrive late, it is a disruption for the other children that are focused on a project or are in the middle of an activity.

School Uniform 1. At Ainsfield School we believe that school uniform is important. A smart and distinctive uniform contributes to the public image of our school and ensures that our children are always easily identifiable.

2. By taking a pride in their appearance, children are encouraged to take pride in other aspects of school life, including their work and surroundings. Any allergy must be notified to the administrative department.

3. Sweatshirts, t-shirts, shirts, shorts, skirts and ties with the school logo on are available by order through the school. Order forms are held in the Administration office.

4. Please make sure you put your child’s name clearly (using a waterproof pen) in his/her clothes to avoid any confusion.

5. Large items of jewellery and religious symbols are not permitted for health and safety reasons.

6. Displays of tattoos on your child’s skin are not approved.

7. Children must wear shoes which are practical as well as comfortable.

8. A complete change of clothing should be kept in the child’s bag. Everything that your child wears or brings to school should be permanently labelled.

Toys and Personal Belongings 1. Toys and personal belongings should remain at home. This will avoid lost possessions and hurt feelings.

2. We will make reasonable efforts to safeguard children’s personal belongings and clothing, but we will not be responsible for lost or damaged items. Please do not send toys from home.

3. Candy, gum, should never be brought to school.

4. Anything left at the school more than 30 days after termination of services will be discarded due to room space.

Meals & Nutrition 1. We operate a breakfast and lunch service (with dessert), which aims to provide children with a healthy start to the day in a stimulating, caring environment.

2. School meals are freshly prepared on site and they offer a fully nutritional and balanced diet. If your child does not eat certain foods for any reason you must inform the school.

3. Included in the menu is fresh meat (except for vegetarians l vegans) and vegetables, with pulses and fibre foods are served on a daily basis. Groceries (except for dried foods) are made on a daily basis to guarantee freshness.

4. Daily and monthly rates are available to accommodate your preference.

5. For students who bring their breakfast / lunch everyday, all containers and lids must be labelled with their name on them 6. Healthy lunches need to include one item from the following food groups: a) b) c) d)

Notify the Principal and the teacher of any dietary restrictions.

Birthdays 1. Birthdays and holidays are an especially exciting time for young children, and the preschool will be pleased to help your child celebrate with classmates and staff.

Please discuss this with your child’s teacher prior to the date. The teacher will determine the exact time agreed depending on his/her availability and planning.

2. If parents would like to send special treats such as cupcakes for their child’s birthday, they should notify the teacher in advance.

Medical Requirements 1. No child who has a contagious or infectious disease should come to school.

Please be considerate of other parents and children, and keep your child home if the child exhibits any of the symptoms listed below: Fever: A body temperature of 101 or greater Diarrhea: (3) or more watery stools in a 24 hour period Vomiting: Vomiting on 2 or more occasions within the last 24 hour period.

Rash: Body rashes, not obviously associated with diapering, heat, or allergic reaction to medications.

Sore throat: If associated with fever or swollen glands in neck.

Severe coughing: Episodes of coughing which may lead to repeated gagging, vomiting, or difficulty breathing.

Pink Eye: Pink or red eye(s) which may be swollen with white or yellow discharge, until the child has been on antibiotics 24 hours.

Untreated Scabies or Head Lice Multiple Sores inside mouth with drooling: unless health care provider determines the condition is non-infectious.

Ring Worm: A fungal infection of the scalp or skin; child may return after evaluation and treatment by a health care provider.

Impetigo: May return 24 hours after treatment is initiated.

He/she is fussy, cranky, and generally not himself/herself.

2. A parent will be called to come and pick up your child any time your child exhibits any of the above listed symptoms or is unable to participate in daily activities.

NOTE: We are not a sick-child facility. Please keep your child home if he/she is ill.

Communicable Diseases 1. If your child has symptoms of a possible communicable disease, please do not bring them to the preschool. These symptoms include: Sniffles Reddened eyes Sore throat Headache Abdominal pain Fever Communicable diseases include: Chicken pox Measles German measles Mumps Whooping cough Infectious hepatitis Polio Ringworm Scabies Lice Scarlet fever Diphtheria Meningitis Pink eye Please notify the school at once if your child does have a communicable disease.

Head Lice 1. Head lice are not a respecter of persons and can easily spread from one child to another. For this reason, if head lice are found on your child, you will be called to come get your child.

2. Do not return your child to school until he/she has been treated and there are no nits in the hair. Once all nits are removed, your child may return to school but you will need to bring him/her to the school office before returning to class.

3. The school does retain the right to periodically check your child for head lice. If you have any questions about head lice, or are not sure how to properly check your child for head lice, please contact the school office, your pharmacist, or your family doctor.

Emergency Procedures 1. In case of any emergency the parent/guardian will be called.

2. If we cannot reach either parent, then we will try to reach the individual listed on the child’s Medical Emergency Form.

3. If a child is injured while in our care, our first step is to administer First Aid, as necessary.

4. In the event we cannot contact the parent/guardian or doctor designated on the application, we will see that your child receives the emergency medical treatment he/she needs from a doctor or hospital.

5. The parent/guardian will be expected to assume the responsibility for any resulting expense.

Accidents 1. In cases of accidents (on very exceptional occasions), which may include falls, scratches, bumps, etc., First Aid care is immediately provided.

2. Parents are informed either in the correspondence book, a phone call or text messages.

3. Accidents which occur between children during playing activities, are considered to be innocent accidents that can cause mild injury. No one will have the right to reprimand any child. The safety and welfare of any child remains the priority of the school.

4. Only members of the disciplinary committee will have the sole right to exercise any measures that will be considered as appropriate.

Representation Show 1. Mid-term and annual show representations in recognised air-conditioned halls with access to costumes, props and accessories.

2. Parents are advised to consult the school website regularly to be knowledgeable of the school events / activities.

Website 1. Parents are privileged with private access to the school Website, getting hands-on updated and vital information about the child’s progress, educational program content and financial status.

2. Parents are required to sign the weekly book to certify that the communication has been received.

Weekly book 1. A weekly book is maintained for each child in which the teacher and parent can communicate amongst themselves.

2. Monitoring and recording of progress is made on a daily basis and reported on a weekly basis.

3. All weekly and termly notes are regularly updated on the school website.

Student Journal 1. It is compulsory for every student to have a Student Journal in order to enable his / her Responsible Party to monitor his / her conduct and performance. It must be properly filled in by the student after every period, and signed by the Responsible Party every Friday.

2. Parents are strongly advised to check this at least once a week as it is a means of communication between teachers and parents.

Reports A report sheet showing a students’ performance is issued at the end of each term to be signed by the Responsible Party

Parents-Teachers Meetings 1. Records are kept on all children to chart their progress and achievements. At the end of each term, a one-to-One meeting is made to help the class teachers to identify the needs of the children and to plan for future needs.

2. A constructive discussion with parents will give them a clear picture of the child’s achievements and also areas for improvement.

3. Parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s end of Key Stage assessment with the class teacher.

4. Teachers will be required to call the parent if there is a need to set up an urgent meeting in case the child is misbehaving or regressing.

Outings 1. Occasionally, we may have the opportunity to take an outing trip.

2. The details of the venue and schedule will be communicated a few days prior to the event.

3. Transportation and entrance facility will be chargeable.

4. In the event of an emergency away from the school, your child will be cared for and you will be notified.

5. In case of emergencies, parents are required to authorise the school to transfer their child to the nearest Health Centre.

Child Custody 1. AINSFIELD has no legal authority to refuse to release a child to either parent unless a court order has granted temporary or legal custody to one parent or a third party.

2. In such cases, it is the parent’s responsibility to provide with a copy of the order and with the court’s signature. Because we cannot honour verbal requests, it is imperative that we have a copy of the court order on file.

Assistance The Administrative office remains at parents’ disposal (during school hours) by phone or at the office for any need of information.

Featuring for School promotion 1. Ainsfield School recognizes the value of using social media as a communication and learning tool. The School Website exists to facilitate dialog and share information of interest to members of the school family, promote our mission and vision, and enhance communication with students, parents, guardians, staff and the community.

2. During school years, our students’ photographs and footage will be taken as testimonials of our beliefs and approaches and help out in our marketing in all our publications, on our website and in social media. Prior to publication, all pictures will undergo a process of approval from our panel of communicators to reject all aspects of discrimination, irrelevances and inappropriateness.

3. The School currently operates accounts on Facebook and its own official Website exclusively. Our administration may be contacted for exemption cases.

Distance education during temporary closure 1. In case of infectious diseases occurring in epidemic forms, that may require the temporary closure of the school, the school shall provide distance education and online learning programmes, including broadcast lessons.

2. Our teaching staff, assisted by the administrative department personnel shall engage in, producing and conducting distance education. The standard of distance education will be subject to administration, monitoring and supervision by the Ministry and any of its statutory bodies, with the purpose to maintain the quality of delivery and educational aim.

3. During an epidemic period and/or any consequential national or partial lock-down, the school fees will be chargeable and payable in its usual form. Bank transfers will be the main vehicle for money transactions.

Procedures for raising Concerns / Complaint 1. Everyone wants the children to be happy and do well at school but occasionally situations and misunderstandings do arise. We hope that we will be able to resolve most issues but there may be an occasion when you may wish to make a complaint.

2. If any parent has a complaint about the school, we will ensure that we deal with it fairly. Please contact the school at the earliest opportunity. If you need to discuss issues and clarify any misunderstandings, we will always try to ensure that any complaints are resolved satisfactorily.

3. Complaints should be addressed with the Class Teacher first.

4. If you are not satisfied with the outcomes, please see the Personal Assistant to Head Teacher.

5. If the matter persists, you may then make an appointment to see either the Head Teacher to resolve the matter.

Access to School Premises Arrangements have been made for gate control. These include opening and closing of gate, recording of name of visitor, time of access to school, purpose of visit, and registration number of vehicle (where applicable). Parents / Responsible Parties willing to meet the Headteacher in connection with any matter relating to their ward are advised to seek appointment.

Regulated under the COVID-19 (Restriction of Access to Specified Institutions) Regulations 2021, no person shall have access unless he produces(a) his COVID-19 vaccination card certifying that he has been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine; or (b) in case he has not been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, a RT-PCR test result slip certifying a negative result dating back to not more than 7 days from the date of the RT-PCR test was undertaken

Access can be granted to a person who is in possession of a documented medical certificate (certificat médical détaillé), duly certified by a panel of two Government

medical officers that, by reason of his medical conditions, he cannot be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine.

Students under the age of 18 are allowed access to their respective educational institutions without the need of vaccination or negative RT-PCR test.
