In Her Shoes:

McKenna Maduli THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME, ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT HOME IS HAWAII. FOR TV HOST AND DOCUMENTARY MAKER MCKENNA MADULI, IT’S A CONSTANT SOURCE OF INSPIRATION. HERE, SHE SHARES HER TRANSITION FROM GROWING UP ON ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST VISITED ISLANDS TO THE AMERICAN MAINLAND. AS TOLD TO KIMMY ERIN KERTES While I can’t say I wear muumuu’s, grass skirts, [or] coconut shell bras on the regular, my style is very deeply rooted in my Hawaiian roots. If you’ve been to the islands, you know that it’s quite humid, prone to surprise rain showers, spectacular rainbows and magnificent heat, as well as cool breezes and that heavy salty air that adds just a touch of frizz to your hair that just can’t be replicated by those sea salt sprays. It’s the quintessential tropical paradise, a vacation destination even to its residents...and I reveled in it.

DRESS VERSACE SHOES KATE SPADE

Growing up in Honolulu, my closet was filled with an enormous rainbow of Hawaiian print dresses. There wasn’t a color on the planet Earth that wasn’t hanging in that closet! You would also find me in a white tank top (yes, only white) and Bongo shorts (yes, Bongo shorts!). Both looks were paired with Locals Only slippahs (translation: flip flops) without a single shred of shame for my un-pedicured Hula feet (which have since been tamed). There was no need to wear anything but sandals, and when there was, I went barefoot. I finally tried a high heel when I was 17, but I’m not sure it went very well. So you can see, I dressed like every single day was a vacation. And then came supposedly sunny California, but I was only cold! I had to buy boots! Wait, hold please, I remember thinking.
