The Henderson Equality Center has recently been able to expand their space, all thanks to a sponsorship provided by Anthem. Due to this incredibly considerate donation, the Center now has a large event center room that will be used for a multitude of events.

Anthem generously sponsored the Center with $20,000 to put together a room with the primary goal of using it for a job readiness program. Job readiness training programs prepare participants to get, keep, and excel at a new job. Basic employability skills include effective communication, problem solving, resume building, and interviewing. Interviews are such an important aspect of the job hunting process. Using interview role-playing exercises, participants will learn to listen, avoid talking too much, speak professionally, express an appropriate level of confidence, answer questions, and ask for additional information to show interest in the job without appearing desperate. Job readiness training programs also help participants develop good work habits that facilitate their ongoing success. The Henderson Equality Center’s job readiness trainings will consist of a three week course that will prepare participants for all of the aforementioned items.

Although the primary use of the room will be the job readiness training programs, the room will also be used for other events as well. This space will be available for special events, crafts fairs, and more. This room will also be utilized to help expand the food pantry for large distributions, a larger space for tutoring services, and to provide a larger space for the various groups that meet at the Center to spread out

for the various Covid-19 guidelines currently in place.

The Covid-19 guidelines have been ever-changing over the past year, and we honestly never know when a new change is coming. The occupancy levels can be altered at the drop of a hat, which could be potentially devastating to a business. However, for the Henderson Equality Center, having this additional room will make any changes possible and easy to accommodate so that they can continue to provide support to the community.

The Henderson Equality Center is very excited about this expansion, and are deeply grateful for Anthem. This could not have happened without them!
