Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei which means “Universal
Life” and Ki which means “Energy.”
It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using guided life force energy. Today’s practice of Reiki was created by Dr. Mikao Usui, but the original healing practice dates back to ancient Tibet.
Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. It is believed that a person’s Ki, or energy, should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked, it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. When your energy is blocked it can cause sickness and feelings of imbalance, and Reiki can remove those blocked energies. Reiki can be extremely beneficial in aiding with the healing of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
A Reiki practitioner has been attuned through an initiation process to become a conduit, allowing a
stronger connection to the universal energy to pass through them. This can be done hands on or off. There are different levels of Reiki practitioners. Reiki 1 practitioners can heal oneself and work on others in person. Reiki 2 practitioners can perform distant healings as well and has use of some of the ancient symbols. Reiki 3 Master practitioners are attuned with all the ancient symbols. Reiki 4 Master/Teacher practitioners have the ability to teach and attune another person to become a Reiki practitioner.
The Reiki practitioner scans the body to check for energy blockages, or overactive energies, both of which can cause imbalances. The body has seven main energy centers, which are called Chakras. One way the practitioner works is by aligning and balancing the chakras. The seven Chakras are as follows: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown.
