Although they did not take home the top prize, the recognition places them among the premier LGBTQ+ tour experiences in the region.

Founded by artist Danyol Leon (Tamale) and his husband, Sugarbaker, Tamale’s Tours has quickly become a staple in Puerto Vallarta’s gay travel scene. The business launched in December 2020 during the pandemic and was met with an enthusiastic response. The name “Tamale” stems from Leon’s drag persona and his deep connection to Mexican culture.

The tours, which run every Friday, offer a unique experience aboard a 75-foot yacht. Guests depart from the Pier at Playa Los Muertos and are welcomed by Sugarbaker. The day includes gourmet food, unlimited drinks and stops at scenic locations like Colomitos Beach, where guests can swim, snorkel or kayak.

“Our goal was to elevate the experience,” Sugarbaker explained. “We wanted a space where everyone feels welcome, regardless of body type, gender identity or background.”

Unlike some gay party cruises, Tamale’s Tours prioritizes relaxation and communitybuilding over a high-energy party atmosphere. The team strives to create an inclusive environment with exceptional service. The crew, including a private chef and attentive staff, ensures that guests feel at home throughout the trip.

Booking is available through the company’s website, www. tamalestours.com.

Being named a finalist in the Best of Gays 2024 awards highlights Tamale’s Tours as a top-tier option for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking an unforgettable experience on Banderas Bay.
