Her Story Karen Elizabeth He’bert-Brown was born October 12, 1964 to Anita He’bert and Oliver White in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Karen was christened at an early age at Metropolitan Baptist Church and was later baptized into the Catholic faith at Saint Philip the Apostle Church. Karen recommitted her life to God at Next Generation of Original Morning Star Baptist Church. She received her formal education at Robert R. Moton Elementary, Saint Philip the Apostle Elementary, Saint Mary’s Academy High School and John McDonough Senior High School. She received a professional education at Opportunity and Industrialization Center. Karen began her career as a certified nursing assistant and later became a licensed practical nurse. She eventually became a home health nurse, companion and friend to her clients. Karen loved her “old people” and they loved her….and so did their families. She was patient, sympathetic and gentle. Karen was the mother of three sons, Charles, Christopher and Corey. In 2006, she was preceded in death by Corey. In 2002, Karen met Gregory Brown and they married in 2004. The couple joined Next Generation of Original Morning Star Baptist Church. In 2012, they divorced but soon realized that they were still very much in love, and resumed their relationship. At the time of Karen’s death, they were planning to remarry and live the rest of their lives together. Karen had her struggles in life but she loved to enjoy herself. If you knew anything about her, you know that Karen loved to party. She made anything into a party with just a bottle of sangria. Karen loved her family as much as she loved to watch the ID channel. She would call her mother all day, every day. She could also be found having a good time with her two grown sons. Karen adored her nephews so much that she allowed them to demand that “Teedie” come to their house every weekend where they conned her out of all her change, candy, and whatever they wanted her to cook. She would call her sister daily and start the conversation off with “Susta”. She was looking forward to her 50th birthday so that she could get her first tattoo. And we all know that Karen would’ve had a big throw down. Karen departed this life on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the age of 49. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Mr. Murrell, Sr. and Mrs. Pinkie Taylor He’bert; aunts, Sylvia Gamble (also her Godmother) and Iris Lewis; uncles, Murrell, Jr. and Melvin He’bert, Sr.; sister in law, Elaine Hurst; Godparents, Patricia and Cashmere Joseph and one of the loves of her life, her son, Corey He’bert. She leaves to treasure her memories: her mother, Anita He’bert; two sons, Charles and Christopher He’bert; one sister, Courtney He’bert; two nephews Couren He’bert and Machai Gibson; ex-husband, Gregory Brown; Corey’s fiance’, Ebony Tucker; two grandsons, Corey Williams and Lorenz Tucker; two aunts, Gwen Ward (Melvin) and Deloris Breaux; two uncles, Robert Turner, Sr. and Edward He’bert, Sr.; a host of family and friends from preschool until the time of death.
