Waterset By Newland Communities To Host Thanksgiving Day 5K Turkey Trot This year, hundreds of runners from the SouthShore area and all around Tampa Bay will have a new race to conquer on Thanksgiving morning: the Waterset 5K Turkey Trot. Proceeds from this year’s race, will benefit the Waterset community schools; Doby Elementary School, Eisenhower Middle School and East Bay High School. The Waterset 5K will be chip timed with a flat race course. Awards will be given for the top male and female overall finishers, as well as Masters, Grand Masters, and the top three male and female finishers in each age category. A Kid’s Fun Run will also be held, and participants will receive a medal and a kids race tshirt. “We’re so excited to sponsor this event for our residents,” said Lynda McMorrow, Marketing Manager for Waterset by Newland Communities. “Last year, Waterset residents organized a neighborhood Thanksgiving Day race and there was a lot of interest. This year, we’re pleased to be able to expand on that success by offering a chip-timed race, awards and medals, plus race shirts, in addition to giving the proceeds to our schools. We look forward to the Turkey Trot becoming an annual tradition.” For this year’s Turkey Trot, Waterset will partner with the FishHawk Road Runners to oversee the event, with assistance from Waterset Fitness and the Waterset Tri and Race Club, which are

run by residents. The two Waterset organizations will merge to form a 501c 3 non-profit, which will host future races in the SouthShore community, including the Turkey Trot. “The Waterset Turkey Trot fills a void in the Apollo Beach community,” added Dayna Buethe of the Waterset Tri and Race Club. “The race has the potential to draw a large number of runners and walkers from the entire SouthShore area.” “We hope people come out to support this event and our area schools,” said Tina Mohr, of Waterset Fitness, a co-organizer of the event. “Whether they run or walk, we want to see our neighbors enjoy the Turkey Trot.” Registration for the Waterset 5K Turkey Trot is $20 until September 30, $25 if purchased between October 1 – November 21; and $35 after November 22. The Kids Race is $15. Adult runners will receive a tech race shirt and Kid’s Race participants will receive a cotton tshirt and medal, plus everyone is invited to the post -race awards party at the community’s Rock & Roll Bowl.
