Luper, Bigham each hit 20-point mark as ORU avenges earlier loss to Colonels

ORU secures season sweep over SLU after opening game on 25-2 run

TULSA, Okla. - Kevi Luper scored 22 points and Jaci Bigham added 20 as Oral Roberts crushed Nicholls State, 84-56, at the Mabee Center. The win bumps ORU to 9-10.

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University dominated Southeastern Louisiana, smashing the Lady Lions by a 90-48 count in front of 1,075 fans at the Mabee Center.

The senior duo topped the 20-point mark in the same game for the first time since Nov. 27, 2010, a 93-86 loss to Houston.

Christian Key led the Golden Eagles with a career-high 22 points of 6-of-9 three-point shooting, and Kevi Luper added 19 points and five assists.

Luper added a season-high 10 rebounds, while Bigham notched seven assists and six steals.

Sarah Shelton tallied her fourth straight double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaci Bigham added 13 points and Taylor Cooper scored 12 All five ORU starters scored in double-figures for the first time since Nov. 16, 2010, a, 86-85 loss to Tulsa.

Also joining the double-double party was Sarah Shelton, who scored 14 points and snatched 10 rebounds. Taylor Cooper added 12 points, all in the second half.

Bigham added nine assists and now needs two helpers to match 2006 alumnus Leah Cannon for ORU’s career assist lead, at 603. ORU shot 50.0% as a team and hit 13 three-pointers, a season-high.

ORU shot 53.2% from the floor, with a 61.3% mark in the second half. Alisha Allen scored 18 points to lead the Colonels (12-8, 4-5 SLC). Jasmine Scott chipped in 14 points. Jaci Bigham tallied 20 points, seven assists and six steals as ORU overwhelmed Nicholls State to even the season series with the Colonels

The loss avenges a 69-66 setback ORU experienced at the hands of Nicholls on Jan. 5.

Bigham took the Golden Eagles on her back late in the half, scoring eight points as part of a 9-3 halfclosing run. A three-point play with less than a second left in the period gave ORU a 34-27 lead at the break.

ORU took control of the game with a 22-0 run early in the first half. Shelton scored the final six points of the run to give the Golden Eagles a 25-2 run with 10:11 left in the opening half.

ORU held the Lions scoreless for 9:56 before SLU finally tallied their second basket of the game at the 8:53 mark.

ORU cranked it into high gear to start the second half, opening the period on a 10-2 run. Bigham was again the hub of the wheel, scoring the first two field goals of the run and assisting on the next two to give the Golden Eagles a 44-29 lead.

The Golden Eagles led 44-21 at the halftime break and stretched the advantage over the 30-point mark with 17:30 left in the game, as Key drained a three-pointer to give the home team and 55-23 lead. ORU’s largest lead came with :54 left, when Elisabeth Daniels hit a jump shot to give the Golden Eagles a 90-46 edge.

Misti Cussen’s team posted their largest lead with 1:43 left, as Krisztina Velkey canned a jump shot to make the score 84-51.

The victory is the largest of the season for ORU against a Division I opponent. The 42-point margin is the largest for the Golden Eagle program since a 103-53 drubbing of Southern Utah on December 3, 2011.
