All-American Krista Ragan left an indelible impression on the ORU basketball p r o g r a m , t r a n s fo r m i n g the Golden Eagles from a struggling doormat into a mid-major power that regularly competes on the sport’ s grandest stages. In 1996, Ragan joined a program that had posted losing seasons in eight of the last nine years. Leg injuries sidelined her after four games of her first season and one game of her second, but in 1998-99 Ragan recovered to lead the Golden Eagles to a 17-13 record and their first Mid-Con Tournament title. Two years later, Ragan guided ORU to its first 20-win season in 18 years and a second Mid-Con crown. Led by Ragan, ORU nearly upset 2ndseeded Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. A complete scorer, Ragan ended her career as the career scoring leader in Mid-Con (now Summit League) history, and over a decade after her graduation she still ranks second on the league’s all-time points list. Ragan was named Mid-Con Player of the Year by the league’s media in 1998-99, and she captured the league’s official award in both 2000-01 and 2001-02. An ORU assistant coach during the team’s 2012-13 Southland championship run, Ragan is married to ORU men’s basketball legend Nathan Binam. She is the only ORU women’s player to have her jersey retired, as her famous #11 was raised to the Mabee Center rafters at halftime of a victory over UMKC on Jan. 28, 2012.

The only player in program history to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding four times, Elisha Turek was an instant success from the moment she arrived in Tulsa from her hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa. As a freshman in 2003-04, Turek averaged 15.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game to capture Mid-Con Newcomer of the Year honors. The Golden Eagles lost to Valparaiso by a single point in the Mid-Con title game in Turek’s rookie campaign, but that disappointment fueled the Iowa native to a sophomore year for the ages. Turek led the Mid-Con with 18.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game in 2004-05, and she took the Golden Eagles to their first NCAA Tournament since 2001. Turek led all scorers with 21 points in a First Round loss to Texas, and there was no question the ORU program had found a star. After a disappointing opening round loss to Oakland in the MidCon Tournament as a junior, Turek regrouped for her senior season of 2006-07. She led the league with 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and captured her first Mid-Con Player of the Year trophy. Most importantly, Turek led ORU to another Mid-Con Tournament title, getting revenge over Oakland in the championship game, and she capped her career with an NCAA Tournament loss to Purdue. Turek broke ORU’s career rebounding record on Jan. 22, 2007 in a 32-point, 15-board masterpiece vs. Centenary. She holds ORU’s career rebounding mark, with 1,168 for her career, and she has the school record with 52 career double-doubles.
