The Orpington 1st Magazine • Spring 2020 T HE 2019 festive fun run saw a record number of participants as 400 hundred men, women and children, plus a few four-legged friends, donned their Santa suits and painted the town red, with dashers ranging from fi rst time runners – including ward councillor William Huntingdon Thresher (pictured below) - to fi tness afi cionados from across Orpington and beyond.

Festivities began in Orpington’s Priory Gardens in ideal weather conditions as Dashers gathered for a mass yuletidethemed warm-up led by local fi tness gurus, JP and Lucy West, owners of The Fitness Link. A two kilometre course led Santas around the gardens and onto the high street, before crossing the fi nishing line in Market Square to the sound of seasonal hits. All participants received a souvenir medal and a reusable water bottle, distributed by volunteers from Orpington Rotary, and several of the town’s businesses ran special Santa off ers for the day.

Orpington 1st BID Manager, Chris Travers said, “We’re delighted with the turnout for this year’s event, so well done
