Science in Our Lives
THIS TINY HOME PROMOTES A BIG MESSAGE ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY!
Learn how you can go green as the Tiny Green Home exhibit arrives at the Orlando Science Center. The City of Orlando and OUC – The Reliable One have joined forces to support residents in their journey to become more environmentally sustainable at home. Beginning in early 2021, the Tiny Green Home will be on display in Loch Haven Park just outside the Science Center. It promotes energy efficiency and sustainable energy by showcasing features like a solar array, green wall, water cistern, and window film.
Visit it to learn how these modifications can make a difference in your home energy bills while doing your part to create a more sustainable environment for all of us. The Tiny Green Home is also a showcase for the City’s and OUC’s existing free and lowcost sustainability programs. In addition to tours, there will be scheduled activities promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and electric vehicles. People will learn how to participate in the City’s and OUC’s programs to make a difference in their own homes.
Orlando Science Center will own, operate, and maintain this exhibit with support and sponsorship from The City of Orlando and OUC – The Reliable One. Additional support for this project has been provided by the Bloomberg Philanthropies American Cities Climate Challenge, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Little Diversified Architectural Consulting. When the Tiny Green Home is not on display at Orlando Science Center, it will make appearances at community events and festivals.

February 12–15
Celebrating its new permanent home on Presidents Day Weekend!
Orlando Science Center created Otronicon to celebrate how science and technology is changing our lives with a specific focus on emerging innovations from Central Florida. It goes without saying that organizations have had to reimagine their in-person events in light of everything that happened in 2020, and our beloved technology expo Otronicon is no different. This year, our staff, advisory board, exhibitors, and sponsors have made some amazing updates that will help connect audiences with STEM experts and innovation that is driving the future.
We can’t wait to share this exciting hybrid version of Otronicon with you! Featuring both in-person experiences at Orlando Science Center and virtual exhibitors, speakers, and workshops, Otronicon 2021 will inspire a better tomorrow through science and technology! Participants will get to interact with professionals, researchers, and developers who are designing, manufacturing, and working with new technologies. Exhibitors and presenters will include industry partners, colleges and universities, emerging SPRING 20214 tech companies, artists, and game designers who will help ignite curious minds with the limitless possibilities for education and careers in the growing and profitable worlds of STEM and interactive technology. Visitors on site will also experience a series of live science shows and activities to engage curious minds of all ages.
Together, we can create experiences where every student has a fair chance to succeed by offering resources that can connect students to STEM learning

and to a community of mentors and advocates. This year’s addition of virtual content powered in part by stemCONNECT — a classroom resource that introduces students to related high-tech careers — will open doors and help make Otronicon accessible to even more communities than the event has reached in the past!

Technology has helped to keep us connected even when we couldn’t be together while science has attacked the spread of COVID-19 and provided the tools medical professionals needed to keep us safe. It’s now more important than ever that we provide STEM experiences like Otronicon to inspire the next generation of scientists, researchers and innovators who will help us overcome the challenges of tomorrow.
Otronicon will look and feel different this year and the health and safety of our guests, staff, and partners is our top priority. The event will adhere to all of the health and safety guidelines the Science Center has put in place and all participants will be required to practice safe physical distancing, wear approved face coverings, and participate in temperature checks. The event also requires timed-entry tickets to be reserved online and exhibit hall capacity and flow will be monitored.
Program topics and times are subject to change so check back at otronicon.org for more details and updates as Otronicon approaches!
