Carol Sternkopf Best advice you have received? The best advice I have ever received was from a very good friend when I was young and full of self-doubt. He simply said I needed to believe in my abilities, and that my intuition and talent would carry me to a much more confident place, where I belonged. I’m almost 60 now, and I look back and think what a great friend to have given me those words at that time. What truth do you know for sure?

The Wisdom of Women
Over time, I’ve learned the importance of “getting out of my own way.” Societal pressures, oppression and injustice are very real things that affect many of us in ways that hinder our ability to do certain things, but I’ve realized that there are certain times where I am standing in my own way of receiving all the blessings that want to come to me, out of fear. I’ve now found ways to explore the fears and thrive on the other side of them. Instagram: @desireedawsonofficial desireedawsonmusic.com Photo: Kaidra Mitchell

Thrive
I have struggled with what I call the “check-in”: having an idea to serve people, but instead of jumping to do it, sitting back and judging it to see how it would make others feel or what others would think instead of just doing it. What helps me get past that point is reminding myself that I was given the idea and if someone does not like it or agree, they can generate their own idea too. There’s space for everyone to thrive. What do you wish you would have known when you were 20? When I was 20 years old, I wish I would have known to listen to my inner voice— the voice within me that I allowed to be smothered by others that tried to tell me I was not good enough, or that I was too much of something. I think if I would have found my voice within myself sooner, I would have used it to speak up for myself as much as I did for others.
