Guided Evening Paddle

Evenings are better on the water. Enjoy a 4-5 mile kayak paddle from Oregon to the canoe landing at Castle Rock State Park. Kayak, life-jacket and paddle are supplied by White Pelican Rentals. Oregon Park District staff will serve as a paddle guide, describing the wildlife of the Rock River valley and history of the Oregon, IL area. Bring your sunscreen and water bottle, and spend your evening surrounded by swallows, turtles, herons, and maybe even a bald eagle. Previous paddling experience is a plus, but is not required. We will meet at the Castle Rock State Park boat launch at 5:00 pm. White Pelican will then transport us to the launch point and we will paddle back to our vehicles.

Wisconsin Brew-ology Trip

Only in Wisconsin—Don’t miss your chance to see and sample two breweries in one day. We will start by going to the New Glarus Brewery, where you can enjoy a self-guided tour and tasting. After the New Glarus Brewery, head to Monroe for lunch at Baumgartner’s Tavern and a tour of the historic Minhas Brewery. Let Oregon Park District supply the transportation in park district vans so you can have the day to enjoy the beer without needing to drive.

Registration fee covers the cost of the Minhas Brewery tour and transportation. Please bring money for New Glarus beer tastings, lunch, and any beer you wish to bring back home with you.

Evening Flight Hike

Summer evenings are perfect for time outside. Meet at Nash Recreation Center and take a ride down to one of Illinois newest and most diverse Nature Preserves, Amboy Marsh. Meet a local Audubon Society Guide on a guided walk exploring the home of several rare reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Enjoy good company during a very active window of time for many wildlife species at the preserve. Upon return, all participants will receive a voucher for a beverage flight at Cork & Tap to enjoy after the hike. Registration includes transportation and a beverage flight. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Birdsong Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society.

Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival

Calling all fiber artists! Join us on this bus trip to the 21st Annual Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival at Jefferson County Fair Park in Jefferson Wisconsin, on Saturday September 9th. Enjoy the Country Store, which has over 120 vendors. There are youth activities, sheep shows, dog trials, competitions, and so much more! Admissions to the festival is an additional $10, cash only. You can also sign up for one of their classes for an additional fee to the festival, which last year included, knitting, spinning, weaving and crochet. Registration fee includes transportation to and from the festival with a pick up/drop off at the Nash Recreation Center and additional pickup near Hwy 39 and 251.
