RECAP: For the second straight game, freshman Carly O’Connell delivered in the game’s waning moments for the Oregon Ducks. This time, it came in the second half of the first overtime period. With the Ducks trailing Vermont, 13-12, O’Connell rebounded a shot by Kate Cathell that hit the post and rifled it into the goal to send the game into sudden victory. The teams played to a draw through the first three minutes of the golden-goal period. But finally, with 1:47 on the clock, junior Nikki Puszcz drew a foul on Vermont’s Vanessa VanderZalm to set up a freeposition attempt angled off to the left of the net. Puszcz capitalized on the opportunity by sending a shot past goalie Charlotte Lyons to secure a dramatic 14-13 triple-overtime win for Oregon. In a game that featured 10 ties and six lead changes, the visiting Catamounts scored the first two goals of the match and carried a 7-6 lead into the break. Devon Frazer and senior Cathell each scored two goals for the Ducks in the first. Oregon, which led by no more than one goal the entire night, gave up a goal to Vermont’s Marcie Marino to start the second half but rattled off the next two thanks to goals by O’Connell and Frazer. Then, with the game knotted at nine, the Ducks were able to take their first lead of the game since the 4:43 mark of the first half when Puszcz scored her second goal of the game with 22:02 remaining. The match continued with its back-and-forth theme, and with the score tied at 11, senior Bridget Morrison, a defender, forced a Lyons turnover, scooped up the ground ball, and floated a 35-yard shot into the net to give the Ducks a 12-11 advantage. For Morrison, the goal was the second of her career and first since her freshman campaign in 2010. But the resilient Catamounts refused to go away. With 7:02 to go, Sydney Mas scored her fifth goal of the game to tie it up, 12-12. The 12-12 score held over the final seven minutes and the game went into overtime. In the first half of the overtime period, Jessica Roach scored for the Catamounts to give her team a one-goal edge. Vermont won both draw controls of the overtime’s first half and Oregon went into the second trailing, 13-12. O’Connell won the opening draw control for the Ducks to give them possession. On its first attempt to score, Frazer missed a shot high but Shannon Propst scooped up the ground ball to give O’Connell an opportunity from five yards out. O’Connell fired a shot but it was saved by Lyons. After a Vermont clear, Roach fired a shot that was saved by Oregon’s Salliebeth Finnegan with 45 seconds remaining. The Ducks would call a timeout to set up one final play. Out of the timeout, O’Connell sent a shot wide of the net with 21 seconds remaining but the shot was backed up by Propst to keep the ball with Oregon. This set the stage for O’Connell, who rebounded the shot from Cathell and then scored with seven seconds to play. After a scoreless first sudden-victory period, Puszcz capitalized on the free-position shot to win it in the second. The Ducks out-shot the Catamounts, 37-25, but lost the draw control battle, 17-15. Oregon committed 15 turnovers to Vermont’s 16 and Finnegan finished the game with five saves. Oregon grabbed 16 ground balls as a team Puszcz, Cathell and Frazer each recorded a hat-trick and Propst led the way with two assists. Morrison and Finnegan each scooped up four ground balls to lead the Ducks, O’Connell finished with a team-high five draw controls and Puszcz caused three Vermont turnovers.

RECAP: Oregon’s Sami Kiser scored a goal with 11:14 left to break a 6-6 tie and the Duck defense held off a feisty Davidson offense the rest of the way to preserve Oregon’s fourth-straight victory, 7-6. Davidson’s Ana Fucigna scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes in to give the Wildcats their first and only lead of the game. Oregon would go on to rattle off the next five goals to grab a 5-1 advantage. Senior Kate Cathell and sophomore Devon Frazer each scored two of the five goals and Kiser added the other. But the relentless Wildcats were able to cut into the Oregon lead by scoring three consecutive goals of their own. The Ducks carried a 5-4 lead into the break. In the second, Lindsay Cooper scored a goal for the Wildcats to even the score at five with 22:16 remaining but Cathell responded with her third goal of the night and 11th of the season at the 17:44 mark. For Cathell, it marked the third game of the year where she scored at least three goals. With 15 minutes to go, Alanna Parker knotted the score at six with an unassisted goal, but Kiser’s second goal of the day off of Shannon Propst’s third assist with 11:14 left put the Ducks up for good. Cathell, Frazer and Kiser were Oregon’s only goal-scorers. Propst’s assist total accounted for three out of the four Duck assists. Hayley Milner had the other. Oregon goalie Salliebeth Finnegan (3-0) picked up her third-straight win in goal and made a season-high nine saves in the Duck triumph. Milner, who also caused two turnovers, and senior Bridget Morrison led the Ducks in the ground ball category (three each). The Ducks out-shot the Wildcats 19-18 and won the ground ball battle, 14-7. Davidson, however, won 11 out of the match’s 15 draw controls.

RECAP: The second-ranked Florida Gators snapped Oregon’s fourgame winning streak with a 13-5 victory in Eugene. Florida started the game off hot, scoring two goals in under five minutes. But with 21:27 to play in the opening half, Oregon’s Casey Brogan got the Ducks on the board with her second goal of the year. However, the Gators would go on a 4-0 run to take a commanding 6-1 lead with 15:09 to go in the first. Each of Florida’s goals during the run were scored by a different player. Shannon Propst and Nikki Puszcz helped the Ducks crawl back into the game over the next four minutes, though. At the 14:18 mark, Propst scored her eighth goal of the year off a pass from Puszcz and then returned the favor by dishing the ball off to Puszcz for a goal with 10:51 remaining in the half. Puszcz’s eighth goal of the year made it a 6-3 game. But Florida regrouped after Puszcz’s goal and went on to score the next three goals thanks to Gabi Wiegand, Ashley Bruns and Brittany Dashiell, who posted a hat-trick in the first half, to take a 9-3 lead heading into halftime. In the second half, Oregon used patient possessions to cut the Gator lead to five, 9-4, when Propst scored an unassisted goal at the 21:41 mark. The Ducks could not pull within five the rest of the way. After a 10-minute scoring drought, Florida’s Caroline Chesterman and Shannon Gilroy scored goals with 10:31 and 6:53 remaining, respectively, to put the game out of reach. Oregon senior Kate Cathell scored the Ducks’ final goal of the match at the 4:35 mark. Florida out-shot the Ducks 29-15 and won the draw control battle, 12-8. Oregon goalie Salliebeth Finnegan made eight saves and scooped up a game-high three ground balls. Propst finished the day with two goals and one assist. Her three points gave her 100 for her career and moved her past Alison Leiner for 10th on Oregon’s all-time points list. The Ducks will have six days off before their next game on March 22 when they host San Diego State in the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game of the year. The game is the first of four in just eight days for Oregon and is the final leg of a seven-game homestand to start the year.
