Find Something That Sparks
Tips for making sure a tradition truly manifests into reality
1. Mark Your Calendars.
Set a schedule! Make a group chat with your gang and find a time where everyone is available. Once an official recurring meeting date is established it becomes much easier to look forward to and plan for the event. Initial communication and planning are crucial steps.
2. Don’t Overwhelm Yourselves.
It’s easy to get excited about an idea but don’t overestimate the time and money you have to make certain things come to light. Start modestly, remember the most important part is getting quality time together. I’ve found in the past that the more casual an event is, the more likely it will succeed in the long run and the less stressful it will be.
3. Find Something That Sparks Interest!
See what you and your friends get excited about–maybe something like watching the Bachelor on Mondays, starting a game night tournament on Saturdays or potluck dinners on Thursday? Once you establish your interests, the tradition can really take off with enthusiasm. This is something to be enjoyed!
4. Divide and Conquer.
Events like these are best enjoyed when group contributions are made. Assign small roles to your guests and the new tradition will come together almost seamlessly. Consider things like snacks, drinks, games, utensils, disposable cameras and music. If you’re considering a new tradition that requires more organization and potential voting (like a book club) assign your most Instagram-savvy friend to make an account where everyone can easily communicate. Instagram accounts allow for creative communication and are the perfect platform to have fun with the tradition.
