JOJO FRASER

Hi, my name is Jojo and I’m a recovering workaholic.

Mindfulness FOR BUSY PEOPLE

They say that when you launch a business it’s a lot like a plane. The take off stage is intense. You need to put the hard graft in and build momentum. With our fast-paced lives, it can be hard to then take our foot off the gas. Whilst it’s great for our mental health to have goals and a sense of purpose, I recently discovered that it’s vital we have strategies in place to deal with the urge to be constantly busy. The warning sign for me was when my mind was racing in the night, dreaming about work. I was writing books, planning podcasts and keynote presentations in my sleep. The creative side of my brain was in overdrive. I was starting to skip my exercise sessions, despite publishing articles about fitness and movement being essential for our mental health. Finding balance is key for our mental and physical health. This in turn allows us to be more compassionate with other people, and ourselves. We appreciate the moments, knowing

that the days are fleeting and precious. I promised myself I would take more time to prioritise self-care this year. I would work smarter, not harder. I’ve been enjoying practising mindfulness and learning how to quieten down my racing mind. Our minds are a lot like a puppy that needs trained. There are lots of things we can do to slow down the mind, be that through breathing, meditation and practising daily gratitude. There will always be more tasks, more goals and more places to rush to. My ask of you this month is that you go easy on yourself. When you are tempted to sprint on autopilot, why not walk a bit more and smell the roses.
