William Anthony Savršene nesavršenosti Perfect Imperfections NO galerija u Muzeju suvremene umjetnosti NO Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Art

ijetki su umjetnici koji su od grešaka u crtačkoj tehnici izgradili cijelo svoje stvaralaštvo. Upravo stoga je opus Williama Anthonya, njujorškog umjetnika hrvatskog podrijetla, zanimljiv i poticajan. Kako je započelo? Podučavanje crtanja u umjetničkoj školi dovelo ga je do izgrađivanja vlastitog slikarskog izričaja. Naime, u edukativne je svrhe studentima pokušavao predočiti i ukazati na početničke

slikarske pogreške namjerno ih uveličavajući. Pokazujući kako ne treba crtati koristio je nepravilne, groteskne, predimenzionirane i disproporcijalne ljudske figure. Rezultat takve didaktičke metode sažeo je u knjizi A New Approach to Figure Painting (Novi pristup crtanju ljudskog tijela), objavljenoj sredinom 60-ih. No, ubrzo je potom u ironiziranju i karikiranju početničkih pokušaja slikanja ljudskog tijela uvidio svojevrsnu estetiku te je

24. 7. - 26. 8. 2014. prigrlio takav satirički tretman i inaugurirao ga u novi slikarski stil kojega je tijekom pedeset godina kontinuiranog umjetničkog djelovanja dosljedno nastavio njegovati. Anthonyevi radovi, dakle, odlikuju se specifičnim pseudo-naivnim crtačkim pristupom inspiriranim greškama. Inteligentno se služeći takvim „naivnim“ crtežom satirično reinterpretira i komentira ponajprije ikone povijesti umjetnosti,


same umjetnike, ali i povijesne događaje i društvenu svakodnevicu. Zahvaljujući takvom ironijskom i grotesknom pristupu crtežu u New Yorku je ubrzo dobio niz narudžbi, poput one Andya Warhola za časopis Intreview, a njegovi crteži sabrani su nekoliko knjiga Bible Stories (Biblijske priče), Bill Anthony’s Greatest hits (Najveći hitovi Billa Anthonya) i War is Swell (Rat je sjajan). Osim u crtežima i slikama, kombinirano crtačku-slikarsku tehniku često popraćenu tekstom u formi stripa, Anthony u obliku svojevrsnih minijatura koristi i u mail art projektu Artstamp.dk – poštanskim markama koje se tiskaju u malom broju primjeraka. Crteži o temi Drugog svjetskog rata kompilirani su u knjizi pod nazivom War is Swell (Rat je sjajan) uz dodatni ironični podnaslov – A Kid’s Idiotic Vision of WWII (Dječja idiotska vizija Drugog svjetskog rata). Prizori prikazuju povijesnu rekonstrukciju događaja iz Drugog svjetskog rata iz perspektive američkog sedmogodišnjaka. Anthony oživljava ratne događaje koji su mu kao dječaku bili poznati iz medija – novina, televizije, pisama, stripova. Crteži su iskaz dječaka koji ratne situacije proživljava pun nedvojbene samouvjerenosti u pobjedu „dobrih momaka“ i pritom nimalo ne mari za greške u crtanju. Dječje nespretni i naivni crteži prate duhoviti komentari lišeni emocija i politički korektnog govora. Prizori poput Iskrcavanja u Normandiji, Bitke za Staljingrad, Pakao Pearl Harbora izgledaju kao poprišta dječje igre, prenapučeni su „figuricama“ vojnika raspoređenih u bezbroj malih, nepovezanih okršaja. Anthony na sličan, satiričan, način pristupa i svijetu umjetnosti. Njegovi radovi u kojima se referira na svijet vizualne kulture vode dijalog s amblematskim djelima – od starih majstora do suvremenih umjetnika, otkrivajući usput njegov smisao za britki humor. Estetika njegovih radova potječe iz pop art pokreta koji je u šezdesetima, u doba kada

je počeo stvarati, u Americi bio u punom zamahu. Povezanost s pop artom i njegovim protagonistima vidljiva je i u autorovu odabiru umjetnika čija djela karikira: Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton. Ono što je Hamilton u radu Što današnji dom čini tako različitim, tako privlačnim? prikazao kao ideale masovne kulture američkog društva (kućanski aparati, muškarac atletske građe, privlačna supruga) Anthony pretvara u satiru: otromboljeno tijelo jedookog muškarca koji u ruci drži golemu lizalicu daleko je od idealnog. Dok se žena zabavlja ispred TV ekrana, vani bjesni rat... Suptilnim humorom i vještom kompozicijom on „prisvaja“ i druga poznata remek djela umjetnika poput Boscha, Redona, Matissa,

Ensora, Muncha, ToulouseLautreca, Picassa, Duchampa, Magrittea, Boccionija, ali i Carolee Schneemann, Chrisa Burdena, Brucea Naumana ili pak Rineke Dijkstra. Ti nam crteži ne otkrivaju samo pomnjivo razrađen rukopis utemeljen na hotimičnim crtačkim pogreškama i nepravilnostima, nego i utjecaje koje crpi iz stilski raznolikih izvora. Primjerice, crtež Zemaljske naslade nastao je, dakako, prema halucinantnoj viziji Vrta zemaljskih naslada Hieronymusa Boscha. Osim prepoznatljivih intervencija preuzetih iz umjetničkog okruženja, poput Warholove konzerve Campbell juhe ili događaja iz bliske povijesti poput oblaka u obliku gljive nastalog nakon bacanja atomske bombe, Anthony u svoju viziju uvodi još nekolicinu protagonista i poznatih simbola. 11 


Upućena publika prepoznat će: Piero Manzoni zadovoljno sjedi na wc-školjci dok „producira“ svoj rad; iz pozadine proviruje glava s velikim okom prema O. Redonu; vjerojatno najrasprostranjeniji simbol „smajlić“ kojeg je dizajnirao Harvey Ball visi s divovske biljke; kubanskoamerička umjetnica Ana Mendieta prikazana je s pločom stakla na grudima; Nabokova Lolita sjedi

s lizalicom i srcolikim naočalama uz zavodnika Humberta; a tu je i štakor s vrećom dolara preuzet s Boschove slike Smrt i bijeda. Anthony pronalazi nadahnuće i u različitim filmskim referencama, stripovima ili fotografijama upisanima u američku masovnu kulturu. Ukratko, njegovi radovi su oštrouman i izvrnut pogled na svima poznate priče, poput primjerice

Naposljetku, složit ćemo se da su Anthonyevi crteži potpuno neprimjereni i uvrnuti... ali i iznimno duhoviti i neočekivani u svojoj nekorektnosti jer zadiranje u elitističke oaze neupitnih vrijednosti “visoke umjetnosti” jest zabavno!

ery few artists take advantage of mistakes in the drawing technique as the starting point for their entire work. This is precisely why the work of William Anthony, a New York-based artist of Croatian origin, is interesting and stimulating. How did it all begin? Teaching drawing in an art school led him to build his own artistic expression. For educational purposes, he tried to demonstrate and point to beginners’ mistakes in painting to his students by deliberately exaggerating. Wanting to show how not to draw, he used irregular, grotesque, over-dimensional and disproportionate human figures. He described the result of such a didactic method in his book A New Approach to Figure Painting, published in the mid-1960s. However, through the use of irony and parody in the first steps in painting a human body he soon noticed a certain aesthetics and embraced such a satirical treatment, turning it into a new painting style which he consistently maintained throughout fifty years of continuous work. Anthony’s works, therefore, are characterised by a specific pseudonaïve graphic approach inspired by mistakes. The intelligent use of such ‘naïve’ drawing allowed him to satirically reinterpret and comment on the icons of art history, the artists themselves, but also historical events and social daily life. Thanks to such an ironic and grotesque approach to drawing in New York he soon received a series of commissions, like the one by Andy Warhol for Interview magazine, and his drawings are also gathered

in several books – Bible Stories, Bill Anthony’s Greatest Hits and War is Swell. In addition to drawings and paintings, in the mail art project Artstamp.dk – stamps printed in small runs – Anthony uses a mixed technique of drawing and painting in a miniature form, often accompanied by text in the form of a comic book. The drawings inspired by World War II were compiled in a book under the title War is Swell, with the additional ironic subtitle A Kid’s Idiotic Vision of WWII. The scenes depict a historical reconstruction of WWII events from the point of

view of a seven-year-old American. Anthony re-enacts the wartime events familiar to him, as a boy, from the media – newspapers, television, letters, comic books. The drawings are the expression of a boy who experiences the war full of undoubted confidence in the ‘good guys’’ victory, without caring one bit for the mistakes in the drawing. Childlike clumsy and naïve drawings are accompanied by humorous comments devoid of emotions and politically correct speech. Scenes like D-Day, Battle of Stalingrad, Pearl Harbor Hell seem like a children’s playground, packed with soldier ‘figurines’ arranged in countless small, unconnected battles. 13 


In a similar, satirical way Anthony approaches the art world too. His works referring to the visual culture world are engaged in a dialogue with emblematic works – from old masters to contemporary artists, revealing at the same time his wry sense of humour. The aesthetics of his works stems from the Pop Art movement, which was in full bloom in the sixties, when he began his creative path. His connection with Pop Art and its protagonists is also evidenced in his choice of artists whose works he caricatures: Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton. What Hamilton in his work Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing? depicted as the ideals of American society’s mass culture (appliances, athletic man, attractive wife), Anthony turns

into satire: a decrepit body of a oneeyed man holding a giant lollipop in his hand is far from ideal. While a woman is having fun in front of the TV, a war is raging outside… With subtle humour and skilful composition he ‘appropriates’ other known masterpieces by artists like Bosch, Redon, Matisse, Ensor, Munch, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Duchamp, Magritte, Boccioni, but also Carolee Schneemann, Chris Burden, Bruce Nauman or Rineke Dijkstra. These drawings not only reveal a painstakingly elaborate unique style based on deliberate mistakes and irregularities, but also inspirations drawn from stylistically diverse sources. For instance, his drawing Earthly Delights was, of course, made after Hieronymus Bosch’s hallucinatory vision of The Garden of Earthly Delights.

William Anthony, American painter and draftsman, was born in 1934 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Anthony studied art briefly with Josef Albers at Yale, where he received a B.A. degree in European History in 1958. He also studied with Theodoros Stamos at the Art Students League in New York and at a number of art schools in San Francisco. He lives and works in New York. Anthony’s drawings have been commissioned for Artforum, The Paris Review, Parnassus, Art in America, and by Andy Warhol for his magazine Interview. Anthony has exhibited extensively in America and Europe.

Next to recognisable interventions taken from the art environment, like Warhol’s Campbell soup cans or the events in recent history, like the mushroom cloud made by the atomic bomb, Anthony introduces several other protagonists and famous symbols in his vision. An informed audience will recognise: Piero Manzoni is pleasantly sitting on the toilet bowl while ‘producing’ his work; a head peeks from the background with a large eye directed to O. Redon; probably the most widespread symbol, a ‘smiley’ designed by Harvey Ball, is hanging from a giant plant; Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta is shown with a glass pane on her chest; Nabokov’s Lolita is sitting with a lollipop and heart-shaped sunglasses next to Humbert the seducer; and there is also a rat with a bagful of dollars, inspired by Bosch’s painting Death and the Miser. Anthony also finds inspiration in different cinematic references, comic books or photographs ingrained in American mass culture. In brief, his works present a keen and twisted view on well-known stories, like the media-based saga of Charles Manson and his disciples following him in the trial. Finally, we all agree that Anthony’s drawings are completely inappropriate and twisted... but also extremely witty and unexpected in their incorrectness, because challenging the elitist oases of unquestionable values of ‘high art’ is indeed fun!

utorak 15.srpnja. u Castello Svevo u Bariju otvorena je izložba „Đuro Janeković/ Hrvatski fotograf, europski umjetnik“. Izložba je realizirana u organizaciji Ministarstva kulture Republike Hrvatske, Veleposlanstva Republike Hrvatske u Italiji, Ministarstva za kulturna dobra i aktivnosti Republike Italije, Muzeja za umjetnost i obrt, Zagreb te tvrtke Present kao nastavak uspješne suradnje hrvatskih i talijanskih partnera ovom izložbom u Rimu u prosincu 2013. Aurorica i ove izložbe je dr. sc. Marija Tonković, docentica na Akademiji dramske umjetnosti i donedavno muzejska savjetnica i

voditeljica Zbirke starije fotografije u Muzeju za umjetnost i obrt dok su produkciju u Rimu i u Bariju vodili Alessandro Boscarini i Marco Miglio. Postoje naznake da će se ova izložba prikazati u još nekoliko talijanskih gradova. Podsjetimo, Opus Đure Janekovića ( 1912 – 1989 ) donedavno je bio potpuna nepoznanica u korpusu hrvatske fotografije i predstavlja najznačajnije otkriće posljednjih godina koje izuzetno nadopunjava stilsku panoramu tridesetih. Izložba ostaje otvorena do 15.9.2014.

The Đuro Janeković, Croatian Photographer, European Artist exhibition was opened on Tuesday, 15 July 2014 at the Castello Svevo in Bari (Italy). This stunning exhibition, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Croatian Embassy in Italy, Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities of the Republic of Italy, Arts and Crafts Museum, Zagreb, and Present Company, is a continuation of the Croatian-Italian cultural relations prospered at the time of the Janeković’s first exhibition held in Rome in December 2013. This exhibition features the work of Đuro Janeković (1912 – 1989) that has recently been made available to the public for the first time. These never-before-seen images provide a more comprehensive view of Zagreb in the 1930s. Science coordinator of the exhibition is Maria Tonković, DSc., Assistant Professor of the Academy of Dramatic Art and until recently the adviser and curator of Arts and Crafts Museum’s old photography collection, and the producers of both the exhibitions are Alessandro Boscarini and MarcoMiglio. The exhibition will be open until 15 September 2014 and is most likely to be toured around Italy in several cities.

Oblikovatelji sjećanja Otvaranje retrospektivne izložbe “Oblikovatelji sjećanja” Povodom svoje 65. obljetnice, Igre u suradnji s Muzejem za umjetnost i obrt otvaraju retrospektivnu izložbu „Oblikovatelji sjećanja – fotografi i dizajneri Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara“ u petak, 11. srpnja u 21.00 sat u atriju palače Sponza. Tijekom 65 godina postojanja Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara brojni fotografi, od kojih su danas pojedini nezaobilazna imena hrvatske povijesti fotografije, poput Toša Dabca, Đura Griesbacha, Vilka Zubera, Marije Braut, Nenada Gattina, Krešimira Tadića, Slobodana Tadića, Enesa Midžića, Pava Urbana, Ane Opalić, Damila Kalođere i dugih, sustavno su bilježili događanja na Igrama i oko njih dok su istovremeno

Memory Creators Opening of “Memory Creators” art exhibition Regarding it’s 65th anniversary, in partnership with the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Festival will open a retrospective exhibition under the name of „Memory Creators – photographers and designers of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival“, which will take place on Friday, 11th July at 9 p.m. in the Palace Sponza Atrium. Over the course of the past 65 years of the Festival, countless photographers, some of which are today’s great names of the Croatian photographic history such as Toše Dabac, Đuro Griesbach, Vilko Zuber, Marija Braut, Nenad Gattin, Krešimir Tadić, Slobodan Tadić, Enes Midžić, Pavo Urban, Ana Opalić, Damil Kalođera and others, have systematically

značajni likovni umjetnici i dizajneri, poput Eda Murtića, Fedora Vaića, Branka Kovačevića, Iva Grbića, Eda Kovačevića, Toma Gusića, Luke Gusića, Borisa Ljubičića, Orsata Frankovića i drugih, kreirali plakate i naslovnice, a neki i cjelokupni vizualni identitet pojedinih godišta Igara. Iako su im radovi obilno korišteni u brojnim publikacijama, njihovo autorstvo nije isticano. Osim prisjećanja dosadašnjih festivalskih sezona, Igre svojim suradnicima fotografima i dizajnerima žele odati priznanje pa izložbu prati i katalog s biografijama autora s posebnim naglaskom na njihovoj suradnji s Igrama. Autorica stručne koncepcije izložbe je profesorica povijesti umjetnosti dr. sc. Marija Tonković, a priprema izložbe trajala je gotovo godinu dana jer je materijal trebalo skupiti iz različitih izvora pošto je arhiv Igara dijelom

marked the Festival’s events, as well as have notable artists and designers, such as Edo Murtić, Fedor Vaić, Branko Kovačević, Ivo Grbić, Edo Kovačević, Tomo Gusić, Luka Gusić, Boris Ljubičić, Orsat Franković and others, who created posters and front pages, even complete visual identities of particular Festival years. Altough their work has been abuntantly used in many publications, their authorship has not been specifically distinguished, until now. Apart from recalling it’s past seasons, the Festival wishes to honour it’s associated photographers and designers by releasing a catalogue containing the authors’ biographies, which focused on their work with the Festival. Art history profesor dr.sc. Marija Tonković is the author of the exhibitions formal conception. Preparations for the exhibition lasted an entire year, as the material had to be collected from multiple

Tako se pružila idealna prilika da se prikupljenim materijalom, sada digitalno obrađenim, iz raznih muzeja, arhiva i privatnih izvora, dopuni i rekonstruira Arhiv Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara. Izložba je ostvarena u organizaciji Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara i Muzeja za umjetnost i obrt iz Zagreba, uz suradnju s Državnim arhivom u Dubrovniku i Hrvatskom radiotelevizijom te podršku Epsona, a pomogle su i druge brojne institucije i pojedinci. Izložba se može razgledati do 19. kolovoza u atriju palače Sponza i u Multimedijalnom centru Visia, gdje će biti izloženo ukupno 34 plakata i 107 fotografija, a u sklopu izložbe su i multimedijalna prezentacija te video projekcije dramskih i plesnih izvedbi s Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara iz Arhiva Hrvatske radiotelevizije.

This, however, created an ideal chance for supplementing and reconstructing the Dubrovnik Summer Festival’s archive using the newly collected, now digitalized material. The exhibition is a joint project of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Museum of Arts and Crafts Zagreb, in parnership with the State Archive in Dubrovnik and Croatian Radiotelevision, supported by Epson, with the help of several other institutions and individuals. The exhibition can be viewed from 19th August in the Palace Sponza Atrium and the Visia Multimedia Centre, where a total of 34 posters and 107 photographs will be displayed. A multimedia presentation and a video projection of drama and dance performances by the Dubrovnik Summer Festival selected from the Croatian Radiotelevision’s archive, will also be a part of the exhibition. 17 

Julije Knifer Bez kompromisa No Compromise Muzej suvremene umjetnosti Museum of Contemporary Art

U

Muzeju suvremene umjetnosti u pripremi je prva retrospektivna izložba Julija Knifera (Osijek, 1924. – Pariz, 2004.), umjetnika koji je svojim nekonvencionalnim pristupom mediju slikarstva obilježio drugu polovicu 20. stoljeća. Uz odabir ključnih djela iz fundusa MSU-a, djela na izložbi bit će posuđena iz mnogih privatnih i  18

javnih kolekcija među kojima su i najznačajnije svjetske zbirke moderne i suvremene umjetnosti poput MoMA-e u New Yorku, Centra Georges Pompidou u Parizu, Mamca u Ženevi itd. Neka od tih djela nikada prije nisu bila izložena u Hrvatskoj. Naime, Julije Knifer od početka sedamdesetih do kraja osamdesetih godina često je radio i izlagao u Njemačkoj, a početkom devedesetih odlazi u Francusku

(Séte, Nica) gdje će, nastanivši se u Parizu, boraviti do kraja života. Osim ranih radova koji su prethodili meandrima, bit će izloženi brojni crteži-skice za slike i murale, dokumentarne fotografije među kojima su i publici manje poznati performansi, kao i njegovi autentični (dnevnički) zapisi koji su samo verbalni nastavak iste misli o ljudskoj egzistenciji utjelovljenoj znakom meandra.


Julije Knifer u svijetu umjetnosti postao je prepoznatljiv po geometrijskoj formi meandra do kojega dolazi početkom šezdesetih godina tragajući za krajnjom redukcijom svih izražajnih elemenata: „U roku od nekoliko mjeseci došao sam takoreći do kraja, to jest do crnobijele slike (koju sam nazvao anti-slikom), do meandra od kojeg se dalje jednostavnije ne može.“ Težeći svođenju izraza na što jednostavnije oblike još za vrijeme studija na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu (1951-1957), usvojenim jezikom kubizma od prepoznatljivih motiva iz stvarnosti (pejzaža, portreta) kreće prema posve apstraktnom izrazu.

No, sve ono što će se poslije ponavljati u njegovu radu, navijestio je još prije upisa na akademiju, serijom Autoportreta koji kontinuirano nastaju nekoliko godina za redom (1949-1952) kao svojevrsni dnevnički zapisi. Krivudava rijeka meandar u likovnoj umjetnosti postala je sinonim vječnog protjecanja života. No, Julije Knifer taj će arhajski simbol dopuniti vlastitim, individualnim tumačenjima, otvarajući najjednostavnijim mogućim, ali krajnjim i suprotstavljenim vizualnim sredstvima složena pitanja o ljudskoj egzistenciji. “Vjerojatno sam svoje posljednje slike već

načinio, a prve možda nisam.” - rečenica koja se logikom meandra neprestano ponavlja u njegovim zapisima iz 1976, daje nam ključ za ulazak u svijet u kojemu kronologija i kontinuitet nemaju nikakvo značenje. Kniferov jezik stroge geometrije neprestano je provocirao svrstavanje u različite pravce svjetske poslijeratne umjetnosti (konstruktivizam, minimalizam, primarno slikarstvo) omogućivši mu još od početka šezdesetih godina prošloga stoljeća sudjelovanje na važnim svjetskim izložbama. Ipak, Kniferovo stvarno duhovno ishodište pripadanje je

neoavangardnoj grupi Gorgona (1959-1966) čiji su članovi polazišta za nekonvencionalno umjetničko djelovanje pronalazili u filozofiji egzistencijalizma, apsurda i zena, stvarajući platformu novim umjetničkim pojavama koje će zaživjeti jedno desetljeće poslije. Kniferov procesualan, krajnje discipliniran i gotovo asketski pristup „radikalne volje“ do krajnosti će se očitovati u seriji crteža-meandara koje započinje krajem osamdesetih godina kada tragom grafitne olovke mjesecima, do krajnjeg zasićenja prekriva površine papira, upisujući u njih vrijeme vlastita bivanja. 19 

reparations are underway at the Museum of Contemporary Art for the mounting of the first retrospective exhibition of the work of Julije Knifer (Osijek, 1924 – Paris, 2004), an artist whose unconventional approach to the medium of painting marked the second half of the 20th century. A selection of key works from the MSU’s in-house collection will be joined at the exhibition with works borrowed from numerous private and public collections, including some of the world’s leading collections of modern and contemporary art – New York’s MoMA, Paris’ Centre Georges Pompidou and Geneva’s Mamco among others. Some of these works have never before been shown in Croatia. From the early 1970s to the late 1980s, namely, Julije Knifer often worked and exhibited in Germany, and moved to France in the early 1990s (Sète, Nice) where he would, having settled in Paris, remain the rest of his life. To be exhibited along with his early work

preceding the meander are many drawings/sketches for paintings and murals, documentary photographs – including those of performances less widely known to the broader public, and his authentic (diary) notes – a verbal extension of the contemplation of human existence embodied in the symbol of the meander.

In the art world Julije Knifer is recognised by the geometric form of the meander, which he arrived upon in the early 1960s searching for the utter reduction of all expressive elements: “Within a few months I came, as it were, to the end, that is to a black & white painting (which I referred to as an anti-painting)

expression. But everything that would later be reiterated in his work was presaged prior to his enrolment at the Academy in the Self-Portraits series, created in continuity over a number of years (1949–1952) as diary entries of sorts.

In the fine arts the winding meander of the river became a synonym for the eternal flow of life. Julije Knifer would, however, append to this archaic symbol his own, individual interpretations, posing complex questions concerning human existence through the simplest possible, but uttermost and antithetical visual tools. “It is likely that I have already created my final paintings, but the first – perhaps not.” This thought, following the logic of the meander, is incessantly repeated in his notes from 1976, and offers us a key to a world in which chronology and continuity have no meaning. Knifer’s language of strict geometry constantly provoked classification into diverse trends in post-war art around the world (constructivism, minimalism, primary painting),

opening a window from the early 1960s to his participation in major international exhibitions. Nevertheless, we find Knifer’s actual spiritual origins in his affiliation with the neo-avant-garde group Gorgona (1959–1966) the members of which found their point of departure for unconventional artistic work in the philosophies of existentialism, absurdism and Zen, creating a platform for the new artistic phenomena that would become a reality a decade later. Knifer’s processual, utterly disciplined and almost ascetic approach to “radical will” would be expressed in its extremity in a series of meander drawings he began in the late 1980s – for months saturating the surface of paper with the trace of a graphite pencil, inscribing into it the temporal frame of his own existence. 21.8. Otvorenje izložbe MORE LJUDI OBALA Exhibition opening SEA PEOPLE COAST Izložba, koja postoji od 1971., donosi novu selekciju likovnih ostvarenja hrvatskih i stranih umjetnika. Od samih početaka koncipirana je tako da predstavi umjetnost inspiriranu morem, čime se i profilirala te postala neizostavni dio šibenske likovne scene. The exhibition, first opened in 1971, brings a new selection of artworks by Croatian and foreign artists. From the very beginning it presents art inspired by the sea, thus becoming an indispensable part of local art scene.

04. - 13.8. 21. orguljaška ljetna škola 21st Organ summer school Neuobičajeno velik fundus sačuvanih povijesnih orgulja u Šibeniku bio je poticaj za osnivanje škole: samo osam ih je u gradskoj jezgri i četiri u okolici, a polaznicima je na raspolaganju sveukupno njih devet. Svojim je sadržajima namijenjena širokom krugu polaznika kojima su, uz seminare za interpretaciju i improvizaciju, u ponudi i radionice koje nisu nužno namijenjene samo orguljašima, već i svim glazbenicima, ali i amaterima. An unusually large collection of historic organs in Šibenik was the impetus for the establishment of the School: there are 8 of them in the town and 4 in the neighbouring area, while the students can use 9 of them. In addition to seminars for interpretation and improvisation, the school offers workshops which are not necessarily intended only for organists, but to all musicians, musicologists and amateurs.  24

Dalmatian chanson evenings Jedan je od najpoznatijih hrvatskih festivala koji se može pohvaliti s 14 nominacija za diskografsku nagradu Porin i s ukupno pet osvojenih nagrada. Dvije festivalske večeri objedinjuju stare uspješnice hrvatske i europske glazbe kao i nove skladbe za koje se svake godine raspisuje natječaj. Na najljepšoj renesansnoj pozornici između Katedrale i Gradske vijećnice velikani hrvatske glazbe poput Arsena Dedića, Đanija Maršana, Gabi Novak, Radojke Šverko, Nene Belana i Đanija Stipaničeva, Tedija Spalata, Kemala Montena pred prepunim gledalištem nastupaju uživo, uz pratnju festivalskog orkestra. One of the most modern and well-equipped libraries in Croatia is working a split shift starting from June 13th: from 8 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 9 pm; on Saturdays from 8 am to 12. Tourists can sign up for three months (40 kn) or a single day (10 kn). A wide selection of (summer) books and a beautiful interior of the library is a great relaxing place where you can browse through a large selection of newspapers and magazines not just in Croatian, but in foreign languages as well.

Gdje prestaje kopno

Dolazak u Lisabon

Za Antičke pomorce je prolaz kroz Gibraltarski tjesnac bio put u nepoznato, opasan ulazak u svijet morskih čudovišta koja proždiru pomorce i napadaju njihove brodove. Iza Herkulovih stupova leže nepoznate zemlje. Tamo zlato svjetluca u koritima rijeka, voće raste kao u rajskom vrtu, mora su bogata ribom, a šume pune veprova, srna i zečeva. Rijetki Feničani, Kartažani ili Rimljani su svladali strah potpiren jezovitim pričama i otišli u nepoznato. Tako je bilo nekad davno, a danas sjedim u zrakoplovu na direktnom letu Zagreb – Lisabon. Radujem se ponovnom dolasku u ovu pitomu zemlju bogate baštine, ukusne hrane, odličnih vina i srdačnih ljudi.

Let traje tri sata. Od rodnog Splita dijeli me točno 2.200 km zračne linije, crte koja prolazi kroz Madrid, Barcelonu i dotiče sjeverne obale Korzike. Zračna luka Aeroporto da Portela nalazi se gotovo u samom gradu, pa prije slijetanja zrakoplov prelazi gradske četvrti. Često sam dolazio ovamo, pa me sada zabavlja promatrati reakcije putnika kojima je ovo očigledno prvi dolazak u Lisabon. U nevjerici gledaju u zgrade, križanja, parkirane automobile, a toliko smo nisko da mogu mahnuti nekom od prolaznika. Ovo je najprometnija portugalska zračna luka s više od 16 milijuna putnika godišnje, koja je otvorena 1942. tijekom II. svjetskog rata. Odlazim taksijem do središta grada i četvrti Baixa (izgovara se Baiša).

Narav Portugalaca Neki je duhoviti Portugalac, valjda umoran od turista koji dolaze iz Španjolske očekujući sličnu histeriju, kič i buku napisao grafit ‘Turisti, ako vam je dosadila portugalska tišina otiđite u Španjolsku.’ Ovdje u svakom kutku grada možete pobjeći od buke središnjih gradskih trgova i velikih prometnica, u kavanama i restoranima je tiho, ljudi ne govore glasno i nema glasne glazbe u ugostiteljskim objektima kao u Barceloni, Sevilli ili Valenciji. Ovo je zemlja na krajnjem zapadu Europe, na Pirinejskom poluotoku koju sa sjevera i istoka okružuje Španjolska, a s juga i zapada

Atlantik. Sve ono što se bučno kuha u šarenom europskom loncu gledajući odavde ostaje daleko. Ovdje sunce zalazi u nepoznatim daljinama iza morske pučine i ta je melankonija pronašla put u narav žitelja ove lijepe zemlje. Portugalci su srdačni poput Iraca i pristojni poput Engleza.

Večera i bakalar Vrijeme je za večeru. Očekujem društvo, lokalnu vodičku Ritu s kojom sam tijekom godina suradnje postao prijatelj, te njenog supruga Sergia. Imamo razlog za slavlje, Rita je u petom mjesecu trudnoće, a takva se vijest odlično slavi uz večeru, vino i razgovor.U Lisabonu nije teško odabrati obrok. Bakalar pripremaju na 365 načina, a na meniju većine restorana pronalazim Bacalhau a bras,


Bacalhau com natas, Bolinhos de Bacalhau, Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa. Uglavnom, već sve kušano i sve su ovo ukusni recepti, no tražim mjesto gdje ću pronaći jedno od dva jela: Bacalhau com Broa ili Bacalhau a Ze do Pipo. Prvi je bakalar s lukom, krumpirom i češnjakom zapečen u košuljici od krušnih mrvica. Drugi je recept nazvan po čovjeku koji je kuhao u svom restoranu u Portu i proslavio svoj recept (Ze do Pipo). Bakalar se kuha u mlijeku, a potom slaže u slojevima s krumpirom i lukom, pa zapeče i ukrasi maslinama. Pronalazim mjesto i naručujem Bacalhau com Broa.

Ulov bakalara tjerao je portugalske ribare iz portugalskih voda sve dalje na sjever, prema Norveškoj, Islandu, te čak do obala Kanade. Brodovi bi pronašli pogodno lovno mjesto i potom bi ribari u malenim čamcima odlazili u ribolov. Kada bi ulovom napunili čamac vraćali su se prekrcati ribu na brod. Ponovo su se vraćali s novim ulovom, no u međuvremenu se na brodu posipala sol po ribi. Sol je dehidrirala ribu, pa se nepotrebni vodeni teret slijevao nazad u more. Ovako se puno veća količina ulova mogla uskladištiti na brodu tijekom ribolova, a bakalar je konzerviran solju. Brodovi su se puni usoljene ribe vraćali u portugalske luke. Bakalar je sušen oko tri mjeseca na vjetru, a zaklonjen od sunca. Kako onda tako i danas, iako je sve veći udio uvoznog norveškog bakalara.

Čuvena vina

Portugal ima jako dobra vina i najstarije službeno označene vinograde svijeta. Naime, nakon razornog potresa 1. studenog 1755. ova je bogata država potpuno obnovljena. Potres se i danas smatra najsnažnijim u zabilježenoj ljudskoj povijesti, a devastaciju je potpomogao tsunami, iza kojeg je Lisabon zahvatio požar. Markiz de Pombal, prvi kraljev državni namjesnik, je u vrijeme obnove naredio da se sva vinogorja u Portugalu označe i popišu za državni arhiv. A vinogorja je u Portugalu puno, od rijeke Douro (zlatne rijeke) na sjeveru uz koju

raste grožđe za desertno vino Porto, preko vinograda srednjeg Portugala do slavne regije Alentejo na jugu. Portugalci koriste naziv vinho tinto (crno vino) i vinho branco (bijelo vino). No, vrijedi kušati i mlado vino (vinho verde) koje može biti od bijelog ili crnog grožđa. Ipak, moj favorit ostaju crna vina iz regije Alentejo. Boce boljih vina se i danas u Portugalu, kao i u ostatku svijeta, zatvaraju čepovima od pravog (prirodnog) pluta. Pluto je zapravo kora hrasta plutnjaka koji je samonikao u Portugalu. Odavno su Portugalci naučili koristiti ovaj prirodni materijal, pogotovo za svoju vinsku industriju, a danas ostaju najveći proizvođaći prirodnog pluta na svijetu. Kako sabiranje pluta s hrastova ne bi ugrozilo ove stoljetne ljepotane, skida se samo manji dio kore, a hrast se potom pušta 7-8 godina da se oporavi. Sva su stabla označena i imaju svoj kataloški broj. Često se datum sabiranja kore ispisuje na deblu kako ne bi bilo zabune i preuranjenog ubiranja pluta jer se hrastovi potom znaju sasušiti i propasti.

Kolači nezaboravnih okusa Portugal voli svoju tradiciju. Po svijetu često jedem slastice prekasnog izgleda, no njihov je okus prosječan. Ovaj trend ‘vanjskog sjaja’ srećom nije zahvatio Portugal. Ovdje kolači izgledaju kao kod kuće, nezamjetni i obični. No, okus je prava čarolija. Svako mjesto ima svoje recepte i svoj ponos u pripremi slastica. U Lisabonu je najpoznatiji Pasteis de Belem, belemsko pecivo. Belem je četvrt Lisabona uz rijeku Tejo koja je poznata po reprezentativnim građevinama portugalske metropole. Turisti obilaze crkvu i samostan svetog Jerolima, Spomenik otkrićima, Belemski toranj, i obvezno kušaju Pasteis de Belem. Košarica od lisnatog tijesta napunjena kremom od vanilije. No, kako pronaći riječi za osjetilnu senzaciju koju ovaj maleni i ukusni kolač izaziva na nepcu? Pripremaju ga i u ostalim djelovima Portugala, no zovu ga Pasteis de nata. Nisam odolio ovom kolaču u Portu, Coimbri, Tomaru, Fatimi, Sintri ... zaista je svejedno gdje ga kušate, uvijek je odlično pripremljen. 41 


Od ostalih slastica bogohulno je ne kušati Travessairos de Sintra i Qeijadas de Sintra kada ste u Sintri, čarobnom gradiću prepunom palača i vila, uronjenom u zelenilo Mjesečeve planine. U Aveiru, malenom gradu srednjeg Portugala običaj je uz kavu pojesti Ovos Moles (izgovara se ovoš moleš), kolač od žumanjka.

Porto Kakav bi desert to bio u Portugalu bez čašice Porta, desertnog vina sa sjevera ove zemlje. U gradu Porto, pred ušćem rijeke Douro u Atlantik, nalazi se četvrt Ribeira. Šarena, starinska četvrt uz rijeku, koja je pod zaštitom UNESCO-a. Na nasuprotnoj strani rijeke su vinski podrumi, a formalno ne pripadaju Portu već gradu Vila Nove de Gaia. Tamo se radi vino od grožđa koje se nekad starinskim brodovima (barcos rebelus) dopremalo ovamo. Danas umjesto tri dana plovidbe niz rijeku, kamioni dovoze grožđe tek tri sata nakon berbe. U podrumima vino sazrijeva u hrastovim bačvama koje se nakon tri uporabe prodaju Škotima za sazrijevanje viskija. Vinova loza koja raste duboko u unutrašnjosti Portugala, uz strme obale Zlatne rijeke, ima korjenje 25 metara u dubinu. Posebna vrsta kamena koji se nalazi u ovim vinogorjima upija sunčevu toplinu danju i otpušta je noću. Stoga grožđe sazrijeva u specifičnim uvjetima i ima visoku gradaciju šećera. No, vrenje se rano zaustavlja dodavanjem brendija (vinjaka). Time se i dio šećera zadržava u vinu, pa je ono slatkasto. Dodavanjem vinjaka povisi se udio alkohola, stoga ga vrijedi oprezno Bom Jesus do Monte

piti. Ovisno o duljini odležavanja u hrastovim bačvama vino ima duboko crvenu boju rubina (ruby porto) ili svijetlo smeđu boju pustinjskog pijeska (tawny porto). Posebno je zanimljivo da odležavanjem Porto postaje svijetliji do 50 godina. Oni koji mu odole i čuvaju ga duže, primjetit će da ponovo polagano dobija svoju punu crvenu boju. Nakon večere pijemo kavu. U Lisabonu se espreso može naručiti dovikujući konobaru Uma cafe por favor. No, pravi će Lisabonac kazati Uma bica por favor (izgovor: uma bika pur favor). Bica je zapravo skraćenica od natpisa na vrećama kave koji je služio kao upozorenje: Beba Isto Con Acucar (B.I.C.A.). ‘piti ovo sa šećerom’. Ako naručite ‘uma bica’ u Portu, pogledat

će vas mrko, jer sjever i jug ovdje ne gaje velike simpatije jedni prema drugima, a bica je lisabonski slang. U Portu valja naručiti cimbalino, a u ostatku zemlje jednostavno cafe. No, uz tople napitke Portugalci često pripovjedaju priču o čaju. Naime, od Indije do Arabije, od Turske, preko Balkana do Portugala čaj je čaj ili šaj. Portugalci su ga uvozili iz Indije kada je Vasco da Gamma otkrio prekomorski put i zaobišao dvije velike prepreke za trgovinu između Europe i Istoka Sredozemlja: osmansku flotu i papino protežiranje Venecije. Lošiji čaj su Portugalci izvozili, a bolji ostavljali sebi. Na vreće sa čajem za izvoz su ispisivali slovo ‘T’ za transport. U Engleskoj, Francuskoj i Italiji su valjda mislili da je to naziv za uvezenu robu – od tada ga zovu ‘tea’. Ispred mene je tjedan dana u Portugalu. Započeo je moj posjet ukusnim obrokom i odličnim društvom. Večer ćemo zaokružiti uz još pokoju čašicu pića i nezaobilazni fado. Radujem se danima ispred mene, gastronomskim užicima, prekrasnim gradovima i gradićima, prisnoj i domaćinskoj atmosferi na ulicama i u konobama. Radujem se Portugalu – zemlji na kraju europskog kopna koju kada pregazite i stignete do Cabo da Roca (najzapadnije točke Europe) možete ponoviti riječi najvećeg portugalskog pjesnika Luis de Camoesa: Ovo je mjesto gdje prestaje kopno i počinje more.


Where the Land Ends For the Ancient mariners, the passage through the Strait of Gibraltar was a voyage into the unknown, a dive into a dangerous world of sea monsters who devoured sailors and attacked their ships. Beyond the Pillars of Hercules lied the unknown countries where gold was sparkling along riverbeds, fruit trees as abundant as those in the Eden’s Garden, the seas rich in fish, and the woods teeming with wild boars, deer and rabbits. Very few Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans did conquer the fear aroused by grisly stories and go into the unknown. That was long time ago. Now I am on the direct flight from Zagreb to Lisbon and I am looking forward to a nice peaceful country of rich heritage, delicious food, highquality wines and friendly people.

Arrival in Lisbon The flight takes three hours. The distance (air line) from my native town Split to Lisbon is 2200 km through Madrid, Barcelona and touching the northern coasts of Corsica. Lisbon Portela airport (Aeroporto da Portela) is located very close to the capital with planes overflying the town districts rather low. I often fly this route and I find it amusing to observe people’s reactions during landing at Lisbon airport: stunned looks of disbelief as the plane flies so low and so close to the buildings, crossings, parked cars... Passengers get tempted to wave to a passer-by. This is Portugal’s busiest airport, opened in 1942 during the World War II, with more than 16 million passengers passing through yearly. I am taking a taxi to the city centre, the Baixa district (pronounce bai a).

Watching from here, the boiling pot in Europe seems so far away. Stunning sunset far beyond the ocean’s horizon is something that gives reasons for the melancholy to rise and find its way to human hearts and souls. The Portuguese people are warm-hearted like the Irish and polite like the English.

Rita is five months pregnant, and the best way to celebrate good news is a nice dinner with a bottle of good wine. In Lisbon you have no difficulty in deciding what to order. Salted cod is prepared in 365 ways, unavoidably including Bacalhau à Bras, Bacalhau com Natas, Bolinhos de Bacalhau, Bacalhau à Gomes de Sa, tasty cod bacalhau recipes widely available in restaurants across Portugal. No I am trying to find a restaurant where Bacalhau com Broa or Bacalhau à Ze do Pipo is served. The first cod dish is a combination of salted cod, smashed roast potatoes, crunchy cornbread crumbs, onion and garlic, roast capsicum and olives. The second is named after the man who had a restaurant in Porto and made a name for himself with Ze do Pipo. 43 


Salted cod is cooked in milk, then layered with potatoes and onions, baked and decorated with olives. I have found the restaurant and ordered Bacalhau com Broa. Cod stock moved north towards Norway, Iceland and the north shore of Canada, and so did the Portuguese fishermen. They used bigger ships to get to the fishing banks and small boats close to shore. They would fill up their small boats with their catch and take it aboard ship. There they would salt the fish and remove excessive water back to the sea. Large quantities would be thus preserved and taken back to Portuguese ports. Cod was traditionally dried by cold air and wind for about three months. Tradition is followed faithfully in spite of increasing quantities of imported Norwegian cod.

Famous wines Portugal has very good wines and the oldest officially designated vineyards of the world. After the devastating earthquake in 1755 which is considered the strongest in recorded human history and followed by devastating fire and strong tsunami, Lisbon was completely restored. At the time of its renewal, Marquis de Pombal, the first royal governor of the state, requested that all the

vineyards in Portugal be marked and listed for the State Archives. There are many wine-growing areas in Portugal extending from the Douro River (Gold River) in the north and famous for its dessert wine Porto, through the vineyards of central Portugal and down to the famous Alentejo region in the south. The Portuguese use the name vinho tinto (red wine) and vinho branco (white wine). There is also vinho verde (new wine), made of either white or red grapes. It is also worth trying. Still my favourite is red wine from the Alentejo region. High quality wines, in Portugal as well s in the rest of the world, are sealed with natural corks. Cork is a bark tissue stripped from the cork oak tree which grows wild in Portugal. It’s been long since the Portuguese people learned to use this natural material, particularly in wine industry, and today they are the world’s leading cork producers. This centuries-old handsome cork oak tree is in danger of extinction; hence the bark stripping is limited whereupon the trees are left out for a period of 7-8 years to regenerate. All the trees are marked and have their own code. Bark stripping dates are often carved on the tree trunk to avoid any confusion or premature harvest that might be harmful to the tree. Sintra

Unforgettable Cake Taste Portugal loves its traditions. We usually favour nice-looking sweets but very often their taste is fairly average. Luckily, looking great on the outside is something that people in Portugal has no much regard for. Here, the cakes look as plain and simple as those home-made, but taste great. Every place has its own recipes and people take professional pride in preparing desserts. The most famous Lisbon’s desert is Pasteis de Belem, Belemian pastry. Belem is the district in Lisbon along the Tejo River, known for the buildings of special architectural and historic interest. Most tourists visit the Church and Monastery of St. Jerome, Monument to the Discoveries, Belem Tower, and they unavoidably taste Pasteis de Belem, puffy pastry baskets with vanilla cream. What a sensational taste of this tiny delicious cake! This cake is also prepared in other parts of Portugal under the name of Pasteis de nata. I just couldn’t resist this cake in Porto, Coimbra, Tomar, Fatima, Sintra ... Anywhere you go, it is always gorgeously prepared. If you are in Sintra, a place like no other with fairy-tale palaces and villas, immersed in lush vegetation of the Lunar Mountains, you should taste among other titbits the Travessairos de Sintra and Qeijadas de Sintra. Ovos Moles (pronounce ovo mole ), the egg yolk sweet commonly served with coffee in Aveiro, a small medieval town in central Portugal.

Porto Wine What would the Portuguese dessert be like if not served with a glass of Porto dessert wine!? Ribeira District, the historical centre of Porto and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretches along the Douro River. Opposite the river are wine cellars that belong to the town of Villa Nova de Gaia, not to Porto. In the past it took three days for the grapes to be transported by Barcos rebelus old ships from vineyards to these cellars. Today it takes only three hours by trucks. Wine matures in oak barrels placed in the cellars and after threeyear period of use, these barrels are sold to the Scottish people for whiskey maturation. The vine growing in the interior of Portugal, up the steep banks  44


of the Golden River, have 25-feet deep roots. Particular sort of stone in these vineyards absorbs heat from the sun during the day and releases it at night. Thus, the grapes ripen in specific conditions and sugar level rises. The fermentation process is stopped early by adding brandy. Some residual sugar remains in the wine and makes it sweet. Fortifying wine with brandy will boost the alcohol content, so we must be very careful with wine drinking. Depending on the aging period in oak barrels, the wine obtains deep ruby red colour (ruby port) or light brown desert sand (tawny port). It is very interesting that by aging Porto wine obtains lighter colour up to 50 year. If it is aged longer, it will slowly obtain its full red colour again. After dinner we drink coffee. In Lisbon, you can shout for coffee: Uma bica por favor. But the native Lisbon’s citizen will say Uma bica por favor (pronunciation uma bika pur favor). Bica actually stands for the inscriptions on the coffee bags that served as a warning: Beba Isto Con Acucar (B.I.C.A.) meaning drink it with sugar. If you ask for uma bica in Porto, they will look daggers at you because north and south here do not show much affection towards each other, and bica is the Lisbon’s slang. If you are in Porto, you should ask for cimbalino, while

in the rest of the country just a cafe. Tea stories always go along with warm drinks. Tea is called čaj or šaj from India to Arabia and from Turkey via the Balkans to Portugal. The Portuguese used to import tea from India when Vasco da Gamma discovered the sea route to India thus avoiding two big obstacles to trade between Europe and East Mediterranean: Ottoman fleet and Pope’s preferential treatment of Venice. The Portuguese people exported low-quality tea and kept that of high quality for themselves. The exporting tea bags were marked with the letter T meaning for transport. In England, France and Italy people thought it was the name of imported goods and named it tea.

I have a great week ahead in Portugal. My visit starts with a tasty meal in good company. The evening will be rounded off with few drinks and with unavoidable fado. I am looking forward to the days ahead, culinary delights, beautiful cities and towns, intimate and homely atmosphere in the streets and taverns. Dizajneri, Pierre-Emmanuel Camel i Matthias Moronvalle, obojica prijašnji zaposlenici odjela za razvoj telekomunikacijskog giganta Nortel-a, zaslužni su za revolucionarni koncept pojačala koji je istovremeno izuzetno linearan i visoko efikasan, te koristi prednosti od dva u potpunosti različita koncepta izrade pojačala,  48

klasu A i klasu D. ADH (analogno digitalni hibrid) koncept je nastao iz sna o dizajnu najboljeg pojačala s najvećom iskoristljivošću. ADH koncept je patentiran 2004. godine, a prvi model tvrtke Devialet SAS iz Pariza, D-Premier, je razvijen u razdoblju od 2007. do 2010. godine.

ADH tehnologija ADH (Analogue/Digital Hybrid) tehnologija je kombinacija analognog pojačala A klase male snage s pojačalom D klase vrlo velike snage. Analogno pojačalo A klase je direktno spojeno s zvučnikom, te definira puni raspon napona dok pojačalo D klase omogućava 99% struje potrebne za održavanje tog raspona napona na opterećenju zvučnika.


Svi ulazi se transformiraju u digitalnu domenu, analogni kroz 48 kHz digitalno-analogni konvertor, a digitalni preko 192 kHz upsampliranja. Ovaj 24 bit / 192 kHz audio signal se koristi za dobivanje 300 kHz PWM (pulse with modulation) signala za pojačalo u D klasi. PWM signal određuje amplitudu signala putem relativne „širine“ pulseva u lancu, a „podvučeni“ audio signal je ponovno rekreiran putem filtriranja kroz vrlo linearno pojačalo u A klasi.

Pierre-Emmanuel Calmel and Mathias Moronvalle, both former employees of the telecommunications giant Nortel, at the development department, are the designers responsible for the revolutionary concept of an amplifier that is both extremely linear and highly efficient, and which uses the advantages of two completely different concepts in the production of amplifiers, Class A and Class D. The ADH (Analogue Digital Hybrid) concept originated from a dream of designing the best amplifier with the highest efficiency. The ADH concept was patented in 2004 and the first model, D-Premier, of the company Devialet SAS, located in Paris, was developed over a period of 2007-2010.  50

ADH technology The ADH (Analogue Digital Hybrid) technology is a combination of an analogue low-power Class A amplifier and a high-power Class D amplifier. Analogue Class A amplifier is directly connected to the speaker and drives the output voltage, while Class D amplifier provides 99% of the current required to sustain the output voltage. All inputs are converted into a digital domain, the analogue ones with a 48 kHz analogue/digital converter, and the digital ones via 192 kHz upsampling. This 24 bit/192kHz audio data is used to retrieve 300 kHz PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal for the Class D amplifier. This describes the signal amplitude by the relative “width” of pulses in the chain, the “underlying” audio signal being recovered by filtering through the highly linear Class A amplifier.

Gradski prijevoz budućnosti u listopadu postaje stvarnost, u francuskom Grenoblu. Biti će dostupno 70 Toyota “i-ROAD” i “COMS” ultra-kompaktnih električnih vozila. Vozila će se puniti na 30 punionica u blizini stajališta javnog prijevoza.

Mnogo smo toga čuli o mehanizmima mobilnosti u budućnosti, o pametnim gradovima i ostalim inovativnim idejama u službi ugodnijeg i dostupnijeg gradskog prijevoza. Na žalost, konkretnih primjera je malo i daleko su od ostvarenja. Uskoro će ova

vizija postati stvarnost barem za stanovnike francuskog Grenobla. U Listopadu će im se na raspolaganje ponuditi 70 Toyota “i-ROAD” i “COMS” ultra-kompaktnih električnih vozila te oko 30 punionica. Grenoble, France - The city of Grenoble, the Grenoble-Alpes Métropole2, car-sharing service operator Cité lib, French energy provider Électricité de France (EDF) and Toyota Motor Corporation signed here today a Memorandum of Understanding to begin by the end of 2014 a collaborative zero-emission ultra-compact urban electric vehicle car-sharing project aimed at addressing “last mile” transportation needs for those using public transportation.

EDF will install a charging network within the Grenoble-Alpes Métropole with charging points placed at public transportation stations to enable “last mile” transport and in areas where there is minimal public transportation. The project aims to fulfil the objectives of local public authorities to respond to the increasing need for mobility in the Ecocité area, while reducing car use. For EDF Group, this project enables the evaluation for the feasibility of this new mobility system that is linked with charging stations and optimized for new urban traffic service. In addition, this project will provide a new IC-card-based personal identification and payment system, linking the charging stations with existing public transportation systems. For Cité lib, this zero-emission urban car-sharing service will complement its current offering of mainly interurban self-service conventional gasoline and diesel car-sharing solutions. Toyota plans to supply nearly 70 ultra-compact electric vehicles, including the COMS ultra-compact vehicle produced by Toyota Auto Body, as well as a new vehicle based on the Toyota i-ROAD concept vehicle to be unveiled tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show. These vehicles, with their compact dimensions, have been adapted specifically for urban driving, efficient use of parking spaces, and for “last mile” mobility needs. Toyota will also provide the One-Mile Mobility Management System, a unique centralized IT management system that will enable users to check location and availability of car-sharing vehicles and book them through smartphones. Anna Haupt i Terese Alstin studentice industrijskog dizajna na fakultetu Lund 2006. su odlučile da za studentski projekt smisle bolju kacigu. To the list of reasons you might not wear a bike helmet – they’re hot, they muss your hair, they’re massive – Swedish company Hövding adds one more: they just don’t work that well. Luckily, they have a solution.

In 2006, Lund University industrial design students Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin decided to invent a better helmet as a class project. The first obstacle to overcome was aesthetic; people (notably the two students) simply don’t like to wear helmets. But their research also found that traditional plastic and foam brain buckets allow G-forces that lead to fatalities in an alarmingly high percentage of accidents. Their breakthrough design – a motion-triggered inflatable helmet – shields a much greater portion of the head and neck, and provides a softer landing.

The Hövding is essentially a wearable airbag – it’s manufactured in collaboration with airbag manufacturer Alva Sweden – and comes with all the technological wizardry found in its car-bound relatives. The collar contains motion sensors that are tuned specifically to the changes in momentum typical of a bike accident. Those sensors, which are charged via USB and good for 18 hours, stand at ready when the rider puts on the collar. When Hövding detects impending disaster, helium from a cartridge inflates the hood before the head makes contact with windshield or roadway, and keeps it inflated for a few seconds in case of secondary


impacts. In independent tests by insurance company Folksam, the Hövding helmet displayed three times the shock-absorption capacity of traditional helmets. Are there caveats? Price and availability are issues for now, with a 299-euro sticker and distribution only in Europe, though there are plans for expansion. Additionally, the Hövding does not protect the rider from falling objects, and may not work to maximum effect on riders with exceptionally unwieldy hairstyles. It’s good to know that you can ride your bike with both peace of mind and wind in the hair.

Broj kalorija koji je potrebno unijeti u organizam ovisi o nekoliko faktora, uključujući dob, visinu, spol, životne navike i iznad svega sveukupno zdravlje. Fizički aktivnom dvadesetdvogodišnjem muškarcu visokom 1.90 m je razumljivo potrebno više kalorija nego sedamdesetogodišnjakinji koja je visoka 1.60 m.

tkriveno je da čak faktori kao primjerice, kako jedete hranu, mogu utjecati na to koliko vam je potrebno unijeti kalorija u organizam. Što dulje žvačete vašu hranu, to vaše tijelo zadržava više kalorija. Preporučene vrijednosti unosa kalorija variraju diljem svijeta. U Europi prosječnom muškaracu preporučuje se oko 2 500 kalorija dnevno da mu masa ostane nepromijenjena, do prosječnoj ženi je potrebno oko 2 000 kalorija. Samo brojanje kalorija i ignoriranje što stavljaš u svoja usta ne mora voditi k dobrom zdravlju.  Riblji/mesni obrok od 500 kalorija, salata, i malo maslinova ulja, voće nakon njega je mnogo bolji za vaše zdravlje i nećete ogladniti dulji period nego da ste pojeli užinu od 500 kalorija od kokica s maslacem ili karamelom.

Još kao dijete, Konstantin Grcic je volio graditi stvari. Nakon srednje škole, počeo je raditi kod restauratora antiknog namještaja, a onda je otkrio da nešto voli više i od gradnje: dizajniranje. Otišao je na Royal College u London, gdje otkriva svoju istinsku strast - dizajniranje namještaja.  88

Otkako je osnovao vlastitu tvrtku Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) u Münchenu 1991., dizajnira namještaj, proizvode i svjetlosna tijela za vodeće tvrtke na području dizajna. Njegov rad karakteriziraju logično promišljeni procesi, istinski materijali i poštovanje prema metodama proizvodnje. To je razlog zbog čega je lista klijenata impresivna, a

čine ju: Authentics, Flos, Iittala, Krups, Lamy, Magis, Moroso, Muji, Plank i Vitra, između ostalih. Njegova suradnja s Magis je dovela do kreacije jedne od najinteresantnije i inovativne sjedalice ikada napravljene: Chair_One. To je bio jedan od prvih puta kada je Grcic koristio računalno 3-D modeliranje.


Četiri godine proizvodnje je bilo potrebno da sjedalica Chair_One postane ikona dizajna, a sada boravi u stalnom postavu mnogih prestižnih muzeja uključujući MoMA u New Yorku, Centre Georges Pompidou u Parizu, zajedno s ostalim Grcicevim djelima, kao što je lampa Mayday, proizvedena za Flos 1999. godine. Grcic se osjeća vrlo sretnim što strastveno radi nešto što voli.“Neki ljudi smatraju da je dizajn isključivo zabava, ali to nije istina,“ on tvrdi. „To je težak, ozbiljan posao. Ne smiješ misliti samo o objektu koji dizajniraš, nego i sve ostalo o njemu, od toga kako će se izraditi, tko će ga koristiti, do toga što će se dogoditi s njim nakon njegovog životnog vijeka. Dakle, dizajniranje predstavlja veliku odgovornost. I vjerujem da ga možeš raditi dobro samo ako uživaš u njemu.“ Grcic je rođen 1965. u Münchenu, i njegova dječačka opsesija je bila: razdvajanje predmeta na dijelove i pokušaji ponovnog spajanja, da pokušam razumjeti kako su napravljeni. Naravno, sve moje igračke – volio sam sve s kotačima – su bile razbijene zato što ih nisam mogao ponovno spojiti. Mislim da su to bili nesvjesni pokušaji dizajniranja. Njegov automobil iz snova je: kliše, Porsche 993. Naročito onaj metalik sivi čija unutrašnjost je izrađena iz crne kože.“ Najveća strast danas je: bicikli, naročito s malenim kotačima. Imam jedan stari Moulton s takozvanim „F“ okvirom. Alexanderov Moultonov dizajn ( iz 60-tih) je bio jedan od prvih modernih bicikla s prednjim i stražnjim ovjesom.“ Najljepše dizajnirani prostor na svijetu: Loos American Bar u Beču kojeg je dizajnirao Adolf Loos. Dizajniran do posljednjeg detalja od materijala koji odolijevaju vremenu. Prostor je vrlo malen, tako da je Loos trebao biti jako učinkovit. Izgleda kao upravljačka ploča kod koje je sve na mjestu. 89 


Najutjecajnije iskustvo: praksa kao stolar u školi John Makepeacea u Dorsetu u Engleskoj. Razvijao sam stav o kvaliteti i logiku kako su stvari načinjene. Najvrijednija stvar u kućanstvu: televizor Jim Nature kojeg je dizajnirao Philippe Stark 1994. za francuski brend Saba. Izrađen je od ukalupljene iverice. Volim njegov radikalni izgled. Kada ga je dizajnirao, nije bilo Interneta i televizija je bila pogled u svijet. Današnji najpodcijenjeniji dizajner je: Philippe Stark. Da, on je izrazito popularan. On je vjerojatno jedan od najproduktivnijih i najuspješnijih, ali u dizajnerskim diskusijama, on nije jako cijenjen. To je kao kada ljudi misle da je Madonna loša zato što ona samo proizvodi hitove. Smatram to vrlo razočaravajućim. Najbolja dekada za dizajn je bila: 60-te godine. Mislim da je tada (dizajn) započeo preuzimati svoju vlastitu ulogu. Nakon rata, u 50tima, dizajn se bavio renoviranjem

svega. Ali u 60-tima, koncepti, ideje i tehnologija su postali napredniji, radikalniji.“ Njegov najljepši primjerak dizajna 60-tih: Fender Telecaster električna gitara. Ona je bila jedna od prvih industrijski proizvedenih muzičkih instrumenata. Najbolji savjet koji je dobio: od učitelja koji je kazao: „Dobar dizajn može se napraviti preko telefona.“ Dobra ideja se može razmijeniti riječima. Njoj ne treba crtanje – ona je proces dijaloga. Ako je ideja dovoljno dobra, ona će postati dobar proizvod.“ Najvažniji element sobe je: pogled. Soba s pogledom je savršena. Njegov najdraži dizajn website: Geoffov Mansughov BLDGBLOG. Moram priznati da pratim i Dezeen, također. Najdraža knjiga o dizajnu: „Dobra knjiga“ Johna Körmelinga. On je nizozemski arhitekt. To je čudna knjiga o njegovom radu.

Slogan u dizajnu: „Ne volim lažno, i ne volim retro, što je trenutačno jako prisutno. Stvari se mijenjaju, i ne znamo kamo će nas odnijeti. Oslanjamo se na prošlost koja nam daje osjećaj lažne sigurnosti.“ Da nije stvar u novcu, potrošili bi ga: na Franco Albini stol od Poggija, fantastičan komad namještaja. Najprecijenjeniji trend u dizajnu je: mladi talentirani ljudi misle da sve mogu sami. Ideja koja je prisutna zbog Interneta i 3D printanja da mogu dizajnirati, proizvesti i distribuirati sami svoje proizvode. To je razlog zbog čega se može vidjeti mnogo različitih malenih stvari: držače za jaja, sjenila za lampe, zdjele za voće. Interesantno je na različite načine, ali ja sam sumnjičav. Najčešća pogreška koju ljudi čine je: misle da dizaj poskupljuje i čini stvari skupima. Čujem to s obje strane, i kupaca i proizvođača. Istina je, dizajn je neophodan.


As a child, Konstantin Grcic loved building things. After high school, he began working for an antique furniture restorer, and than he discovered something he liked even better than building: designing. He then went to the Royal College of Art in London, where he found his true passion - designing furniture.

Since setting up his own practice Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in Munich in 1991, he has designed furniture, products and lighting for some of the leading companies in the design field. His work is known for its logical thought process, honesty of materials and respect for production methods. That is why the client list is impressive, and is made of: Authentics, Flos, Iittala, Krups, Lamy, Magis, Moroso, Muji, Plank and Vitra, among others. His partnership with Magis led to one of the most interesting and inventive chairs ever created: Chair_One. It was also one of the first times he used 3-D computer modeling.

Grcic feels very fortunate to be doing something he loves so passionately. “Some people today

think design is all about having fun, but that’s not true,” he states. “It’s hard work, serious work. You have to think not only about the object you’re designing, but everything else about it, from how it will be produced to who will be using it, to what happens to it after it goes through its life cycle. So designing is big responsibility. And I believe you can only do it well if you truly enjoy it.”

Grcic was born in 1965 in Munich, and his childhood obsession was: taking things apart and trying to put them together again, to understand how things were made. Of course, all of my toys - I loved anything with wheels - wound up broken because I couldn’t put them together again. I think these were unconscious design exercises. His dream car is: a cliché, the Porsche 993. Specifically one in silver with a black leather interior.“ His greatest passion today is: bicycles, specifically small-wheeled ones. I have an old Moulton with its so-called “F” frame. The [circa 1960s] design by Alexander Moulton is one of the first modern bikes with front and rear suspension. The world’s most beautifully designed space is: the Loos American Bar in Vienna by Adolf Loos. It’s designed down to the last detail with materials that have aged well. The space is very small, so Loos had to be extremely efficient. It’s like a cockpit where everything is in the right place.

Most formative design experience was: training as a cabinetmaker at the John Makepeace School in Dorset, England. It was about developing an attitude about quality and the logic of how things are made. Most treasured household object is: a “Jim Nature” television designed by Philippe Starck in 1994 for the French brand Saba. It’s made from molded chipboard. I like how radical it is. When he designed it, there was no Internet and television was the window to the world. Today’s most underrated designer is: Philippe Starck. Yes, he’s extremely popular. He’s probably one of the most prolific and successful, but, in the design discussion, he is not highly rated. It’s like when people think Madonna is bad because she only produced hits. I find that very disappointing. The best decade for design was: the 1960s. I think that’s when it really started to define its own role. After the war, in the 1950s, design was still about renewing everything.

But in the 1960s, the concepts, the ideas and technology became more advanced. More radical. His favorite example of ‘60s design is: the Fender Telecaster electric guitar. It was one of the first industrially produced musical instruments. The best piece of advice he ever received was: from a teacher who said, “Good design can be done over the phone.” A strong idea can be communicated in words. It doesn’t need drawings—it’s a process of dialogue. If the idea is strong enough, it will turn into a good product. The most important element of a room is: the view. A room with one is perfect. His favorite design website is: BLDGBLOG by Geoff Manaugh. I have to admit, I follow Dezeen, too. Favorite design tome is: “A Good Book,” by John Körmeling. He’s a Dutch architect. It’s a strange book about his own work.


Design slogan: „I don’t like fake, and I don’t like retro. And there’s a lot of both at the moment. Things are changing, and we don’t know where it’s taking us. We’re hanging on to the past and it’s giving us a false sense of security.“ If money were no object, he would spend it on: a 1958 Franco Albini desk by Poggi. It’s a fantastic piece. The most overrated design trend is: young talents’ belief that they can do everything themselves. There’s this idea that just because of the Internet and 3-D printing they can design, produce and distribute their own products. That’s why we’re seeing a lot of small things: egg cups, lampshades, fruit bowls. It’s interesting in many ways, but I’m a little bit suspicious. The most common mistake people make is: thinking that design adds costs and makes things expensive. I hear this from both sides, both consumers and manufacturers. The truth is, design is indispensable.

Povijest Prostorie započela je u 2010. godini dizajniranjem ojastučenog namještaja kojim obogaćuju iskustvo življenja u našem domu. Sami počeci vode od proizvodnih pogona nedaleko od Zagreba gdje se susreću znanje i tehnologija. Međutim, prije svega inspirirani su svakodnevnim životom i našim pričama, što se potom odražava u njihovom dizajnu.

Vizija Vodi ih strast za kreiranjem kvalitetnog ojastučenog namještaja koji obogaćuju svakodnevni život. Iz tog razloga forma njihovih proizvoda prati njihovu funkciju, a estetiku smatraju osnovnom ljudskom potrebom. U tom procesu nisu zaboravili ni na razumne cijene kako bi proizvodi bili dostupni što većem broju ljudi.

Ciljevi Žele ostvariti kvalitetan i dugoročan poslovni rast na etički, odgovoran i održiv način. Cilj im je isticati te vrijednosti kroz njihove proizvode za dugoročno korištenje. U Prostori-i, ljudi dizajniraju za ljude, istražuju, razmjenjuju ideje i znanje kombinirajući tehnologiju i materijale – sve to kako bi izrazili svoje nasljeđe i strast prema stvaranju dobrih proizvoda.

Filozofija Oblikuje ih bogatstvo kontrasta - mediteranska senzibilnost i kontinentalna racionalnost susreću se u njihovom identitetu. Svi uživamo razmjenjivati priče dok sjedimo na toplim stijenama uz more, u otvorenim prostorima, poslovnim salonima, planinskim kolibama, te osobito u dnevnim boravcima koji su prava osobna utočišta. Naši urbani prostori stanovanja često su mali i simbolično odražavaju sve prisutniji nedostatak vremena, iako smo iz toga naučili izvući maksimum i pronaći vrijeme za druženje s obitelji i prijateljima. Jer, na kraju se ipak uvijek sjećamo gdje smo točno sjedili i koliko smo udobno spavali u onim trenucima kada su se odvijale naše osobne priče. Sofe su „tableti“ naše osobne povijesti. I zato je dijelite, za vrijeme sjedenja i spavanja, jer i spavanje je važan dio življenja. 95 

Oblique stolići dolaze u 3 veličine i dvije boje ploče od lakiranog medijapana. Noge, proizvedene iz masivne hrastovine i premazane visokokvalitetnim uljem, se triangulacijom stanjuju prema podu i daju stolićima potpunu eleganciju, jednostavnost i lakoću te su idealan dodatak fotelji Oblique.

Osnova sistema je karakteristični profil fotelje koji, definiran dvjema trokutnim prizmama, osigurava najveće debljine pjene na stražnjoj strani sjedala i lumbalnoj zoni naslona. Konstruktivni furnirski otpresak svinut oko dvije osi, presvučen je zajedno sa spužvom što rezultira sjedinjenom pulsirajućom formom. Noge, proizvedene iz masivne hrastovine, se triangulacijom stanjuju prema podu, transformirajući kvadratni presjek vrha nogu u trokut njihovih baze.

Prostoria was originally founded in 2010 under the name of “Kvadra” and has been working closely with young designers to create unique and well-thought-out contemporary furniture since its very inception. The Oblique tables The Oblique armchair The structure is based on a distinctive profile of the armchair which, defined by two triangular prisms, ensures maximum thickness of foam on the back of the seat and the lumbar area of the backrest. Pressure moulded veneer shell is bent around two axis and is

upholstered together with the foam, resulting in a unified pulsating form. As a result of triangulation, the solid oak legs become thinner towards the bottom, thus transforming the square cross-section at the top of the legs into a triangle one at the base.

The Oblique tables come in three sizes and the lacquered MDF table tops come in two colours. Solid oak legs finished with high-quality oil, by means of triangulation, become thinner towards the bottom giving the tables a look of elegance, simplicity and lightness and making them an ideal addition to the Oblique armchair. 97 

The very beginning takes us to a manufacturing plant near Zagreb, where knowledge and technology meet. However, they are primarily inspired by everyday life and people’s stories, which is then reflected in their design.

Their philosophy They are characterized by rich diversity - Mediterranean sensibility and continental rationality are at the core of their identity. All of us enjoy sharing stories while sitting on warm rocks by the sea, being in open spaces, business lounges, mountain huts, and especially in living rooms that are our own haven of rest. Our urban living spaces are often small and symbolically reflect our ever present lack of time, although we’ve learned how to make the most of it and find the time to spend with our family and friends. After all, in the end we always remember exactly where we were sitting and how comfortable we were sleeping while our personal life stories were taking place. Sofas are our “tablets” of personal history. Therefore, you should share it while sitting and sleeping, because sleep is also living.
