“WORDS” BY Rosemarie Phipps It’s true words can’t break bones, like sticks and stones. But they strike like a copperhead; releasing venom that quickly spreads. There is no possible way we can retract ugly words released in verbal attacks. Some find their self-esteem and love of self. Relegated far back on a hidden shelf. Many believe if they simply apologize, the deadly erosion will be neutralized. But there is no way words can be eradicated. Once they have been communicated. After the passage of many years the memory of them can reappear. Outwardly, it may appear that those attacked don’t care; But, inwardly the terminal effect is still there. Will you keep these thoughts in mind, when to harsh words you are inclined? May I again simply emphasize, be aware of what you vocalize. In your speech kindly omit-words that have no benefit… Ms. Rosemarie Phipps is a mother, grandmother and friend to many in the Jackson, Mississippi area. She is a retired Elementary and Junior High school teacher. Over the years, she has written poetry and short stories and enjoys public speaking. As a breast cancer survivor, she uses every opportunity to encourage women who have breast cancer, or have survived cancer. Her hobbies are music, writing, and being around enthusiastic people.
